We have not seen much of Cunha up to now. He looks talented - as he should do for £40m plus- but clearly needs another striker to feed off if he is to be effective. He is a kind of Mutch player desperately needing a Bull to dovetail with up front. He and Jiminez might work but the latter is so devoid of form and confidence when we are desperately running out of time to avoid the drop.

Presumably when the club spent a fortune on Cunha they were aware he does not have the physique or temperament to play as a No.9 alone up front. Nor is he a recognised goalscorer except for the Brazil U.23 team. However, presumably the club are now saying to Julien that we have Kaladjzic coming back next season along with a more mature Silva- so we don't want to spend big on another striker even if Jimenez and Costa disappear in the summer. If that is the case we really are bug****d. The evidence at City was there for all to see. While signing a striker is not an instant answer to our pathetic goalscoring drought it must help. Apart from a 5ft 5 Podence there is noone at the moment who offers any creativity or goalscoring threat. Traore is leaving and apart from the odd bit of acceleration that takes us actually into an opponent's half does not offer anything like enough. He is effectively 'gone'.

Having spent so much on Cunha it is imperative to get the best out of him and that is the main reason for me that somehow we need to find that striker. Why we have shown no interest in Moussa Dembele I don't know as Villa/Everton/ others seem to be after him. Antonio is not the answer at 32 and after letting go of Dawson to us the Hammers won't want to help out a team stuck with them in a relegation dog fight. Gyokeres it seems is not going barring a huge fee and Brereton Diaz's lustre seems to have waned even though he would cost nothing now.

Not really heard of any credible links on the Continent and are we sure a striker is even on the urgent shopping list? Without goals we all know we could be in big trouble and that lack of a central striker to hold the ball up and focus attacks hampers all Julien's efforts to re-generate the team.

So in summary you are saying we need another striker?
Bit more than that....we need the kind of partnership up front of two strikers complementing each other that has served us so well over the years.......Doog with Curran, Gould and Richards successively, Bull and Mutch obviously, Jimenez and Jota etc....
One lonely striker up front with two 'wingers' too far away to interract with him most of the time will never produce the goals imv that we so desperately need. Cunha + ? Guedes was never the kind of central striker we needed and was 50% or more a wide man. Him plus £20m for Ramos in the summer?
