Lunacy to take a chance on us being on 9 points half way though a season, with ~10 games of Davis in charge/no preseason world cup taken advantage of to regroup.. in order to save ~€5m with the risk of losing ~£300m in asset value if we go down. £6m is a lot but it's a lot less than you'd lose getting relegated. Also each place in the table is worth what, £2m or so? so you'd only need to get 3 places higher (and that's not hard given how tightly packed the lower/mid table gets points wise) to basically make that back anyway - which by acting early you give yourself a bigger chance of doing.

It's just a false economy to delay like Wolves have. Not to mention common sense.

Not wholly convinced it's down to money, think it's more a case of our lack of proper club set Up and the restrictions he'd be working under...

Whoever comes as team coach has got to be prepared to accept that Mendes will continue to determine who we buy. That suits Shi, who knows nothing about football, and it certainly suits Mendes who decides when and where 'his' players go and makes a nice agent's commission on every move/fee paid. FOSUN have a stake in his Gestifute operation, so they do OK out it too. It's a purely money making operation that we occasionally benefit from on the playing side. But who we get to play for us is largely a Mendes decision. He does what suits him and what suits Fosun, not what suits Wolves, except coincidentally. Shi is just a pawn in this, a low level operative who does what he is told. Things won't improve until the club break free of Mendes's controlling influence. That's how I see it.

How can you spend 100m in the Summer and baulk at a few £m's on the man who can get the most from them? Particularly when you have seen how badly the 2 main purchases in Nunes and Guedes have bombed under the wrong set up.

Not sure words can do justice to how negligent S&S have been tbh. It is genuinely incredible.

It makes no sense to cheap out on someone that isn't even scraping the bottom of the barrel but going through it and 100m underground, when you have a squad worth hundreds of millions, an asset worth hundreds of millions, and relegation will cost hundreds of millions.

There's absolutely no evidence that Mendes has put any head coach off from coming here.

We would have had a good chance of Mendes getting a top coach like Lopetegui to come to us had his personal circumstances been different. Mendes would also have brought out most successful coach in 40 years back had Wolves not decided they'd rather have a bloke with 8 weeks experience at QPR instead.

As far as I can see we haven't even bothered approaching the likes of Emery or Amorin anyway. No outstanding candidates apparently.

That's not what people are saying though. It's Shi's obvious and heavy reliance on Mendes in the matter of player recruitment that may well be the sticking point with recruiting head coaches. Mendes may simply have too much influence with FOSUN for any independent-minded coach worth his salt.

Villa have been pretty uninspiring for about 25 years now, so their popularity outside of Birmingham is pretty much 0.

They have a bigger stadium and fan base than us though domestically obviously.. still, we’ve been ahead on the pitch for 5 years until this year.

They’re just willing to spend the money to get the guy they want.. we aren’t.
