Wolves' comparative performance to date (after 25 games):
6 points down on last season (33 pts vs 39 pts from the same fixtures last season)

Comparative results table:
Manchester City (78 pts needed for title)
Leicester
Manchester Utd
Liverpool (65 pts needed to guarantee CL)
Chelsea
West Ham
Tottenham
Arsenal
Everton
Wolves (joint 9th on 53 pts)
Burnley
Aston Villa
Leeds
Southampton
Crystal Palace
Brighton
Newcastle (33 pts needed to guarantee survival)
Fulham
Sheffield Utd
West Brom

Comments:
Wolves repeated a comparative win (last season: 1-0 v Bournemouth) and so remain 6 points down on last season's comparative tally. This works out at 0.24 points fewer per fixture... a trend, which if you applied across the remaining fixtures, would mean Wolves would finish 12th.

Overall, West Ham pulled further away as the most improved team (now 22 points better off than last season), ahead of Leicester (15 pts better off) and Leeds (13 pts better off than their comparative team).

Liverpool once again worsened their position as the worst comparative side to now be a whopping 28 points down, while Sheffield United are now 24 points behind. These two remain the only sides guaranteed to finish on negative comparative points as they cannot match last season's points tallies. By contrast, Villa, Leeds and Fulham are already assured of finishing the campaign on positive figures.

Wolves repeated last season's 1-1 draw at Newcastle and so remain 6 points down on last season's comparative tally. This works out at 0.231 points fewer per fixture... a trend, which if you applied across the remaining fixtures, would mean Wolves would finish 11th.

Overall, West Ham remain the most improved team (22 points better off than last season), with Aston Villa (15 points better off) nipping back ahead of Leicester (12 pts better off). By contrast, Liverpool and Sheffield United remain the worst comparative teams by some distance.

With more than two-thirds of the season now gone, here's a look at how the final table would look based on the points trends that the teams have shown to date to calculate how their remaining games would work out based on last season's results:

Tottenham
Liverpool
Aston Villa

Comments:
Wolves failed to repeat last season's win at Manchester City (last season: 2-0) and so tumbled to being 9 points worse off than last season's comparative tally, their worst position since after matchday 21 (the loss at Crystal Palace). This works out at 0.333 points fewer per fixture... a trend, which if you applied across the remaining fixtures, would mean Wolves would finish 13th.

Six teams haven't yet played their fixture from this matchday so no particular changes have occurred, although Liverpool are now alone as the worst comparative team - a whopping 31 points worse off than last season.

Wolves were unable to repeat last season's win at Aston Villa (last season: 1-0) and fall down to being 11 points worse off than last season's comparative tally. This is the club's worst position of the campaign and works out at 0.393 points fewer per fixture... a trend, which if you applied across the remaining fixtures, would mean Wolves would finish 13th.

Overall, West Ham remain the most improved side (22 points better off), with Liverpool easily at the other end of the scale, now 34 points worse off and guaranteed to finish at least 26 points down on last season. The Reds and Sheffield United are the only teams currently doing worse than Wolves in comparative terms (with Southampton doing equally as bad).

Wolves were unable to improve on last season's loss to Liverpool (last season: 1-2) and so remain 11 points worse off than last season's comparative tally. This is the club's worst position of the campaign and now works out at 0.379 points fewer per fixture... a trend, which if you applied across the remaining fixtures, would mean Wolves would finish 14th.

Overall, West Ham remain the most improved side (22 points better off), with Liverpool easily at the other end of the scale, despite their win (34 points worse off).

Wolves failed to repeat last season's win against West Ham (last season: 2-0) and so slump to a season low of 14 points down on last season. It is now impossible for the club to finish the campaign on a positive figure.

To date, we have earned 0.467 points fewer per fixture... a trend, which if you applied across the remaining fixtures, would mean Wolves would finish 15th.

Overall, West Ham improved their position as the most improved side (25 points better off), with the next best team being Aston Villa (15 points better off). West Brom have reached a season high position in the comparative table of 18th.

At the other end of the scale, Liverpool at least recorded an improved result at Arsenal (last season: 1-2 loss) and so are now "just" 31 points worse off. Their win, coupled with Chelsea's shambolic loss to West Brom, means they leapfrog the Blues in the comparative table to regain a CL spot.

Its been a season of regression. Not sure Fosun will be happy with the manager as things stand.

Wolves managed to avoid falling further into the negative numbers by winning at Fulham (comparative game: 2-1 win at Norwich), which theoretically keeps alive the chance of matching last season's points tally of 59. Nonetheless, to date, we have earned 0.452 points fewer per fixture... a trend, which if you applied across the remaining fixtures, would mean Wolves would finish 15th.

Overall, West Ham once again recorded an improved result and are now a huge 28 points better off, with Leeds now in second place (18 points ahead of their comparative team). At the other end of the scale, Liverpool and Sheffield United continue to bring up the rear.

Wolves recorded an improved result by beating Sheffield United (last season: 1-1) and so reduced their negative comparative tally to 12 as well as keeping alive the theoretical chance of matching last season's points tally of 59. We have earned 0.357 points fewer per fixture... a trend, which if you applied across the remaining fixtures, would mean Wolves would finish 12th.

Overall, West Ham remain the most improved side despite recording an inferior result; they are now 27 points better now, with Leeds the next side behind them (20 points ahead of their comparative team). Liverpool and Sheffield Utd both recorded inferior results to worsen their comparative positions (Liverpool 33 pts down, the Blades 29)

I'm finding it very difficult to get my head around the fact that, despite this minefield of a season, and all the injuries and flat performances, we could still finish top ten with a decent run of results.

We started well, at least in terms of points and position. After 10 games, before Raul got wiped out, we were pushing the top four.

OK I have a few minutes and I too am intrigued by the opportunity we have to finish top 10 in an arsenal of a season.

If they can be bothered I don't see why we cannot do well relative to Leeds, Villa and Arsenal on the next part of the run in. It's obviously impossible to predict and I always got it wrong when I was trying to calculate how we should get into the playoffs when we eventually avoided them for so many years in the Championship!

So here goes for the next three games until May 10th. What do you think?

Wolves now in 12th: Burnley (H) 3, WBA (A) 1, Brighton (H) 3. 7 more points means 48 on Monday 10th May after 35 games and 11th place with a tough run in to follow though. ;-)
Arsenal now in 9th: Newcastle (A) 1 as tired after Villareal midweek game, WBA (H) 3 and tiredness will be irrelevant. 4 more points means 50 on Monday 10th May after 35 games.
Leeds now in10th: Man U (H) 0, Brighton (A) 1, Spurs (H) 1. 2 more points despite their recent good run means 48 on Monday 10th May after 35 games.
Villa now in 11th: WBA (H) 1, Everton (A) 0 due to Everton hunting Europa League? and Man U (H) 0. 1 more point as they fizzle out means 45 on Monday 10th May after 34 games. They play Palace (A) the Tuesday afterwards and they won't be interested IMHO.

Sadly there's obviously no way that our Wolves will be *****, but can we dream of 9th or 10th? Why not!

Wolves failed to repeat last season's draw vs Burnley (1-1) and so fall down to being 13 points worse off than last season. This guarantees that the club will finish on a negative comparative points tally for the season as last season's 59 points can no longer be reached (nor indeed can the previous season's 57 pts).

We have earned 0.394 points fewer per fixture... a trend, which if you applied across the remaining fixtures, would mean Wolves would finish 12th.

Overall, West Ham remain the most improved side despite recording an inferior result (now 24 points better off), while Liverpool recorded another inferior result to drop to being 35 pts worse off. Sheffield United recorded a rare improved result with their win over Brighton (last season: 1-1).

Well done for keeping this going throughout the season. Not sure that it's still required, though as even the most golden-eyed supporter can now see how poor we are.

Wolves actually recorded an improved result in drawing (last season's comparative result: 1-2 loss at Watford) and so improved to now being 12 points worse off than last season. The best possible comparative finish now is to end on minus 5 points.

We have earned 0.353 points fewer per fixture... a trend, which if you applied across the remaining fixtures, would mean Wolves would finish 12th.

Overall, West Ham again recorded an improved result and are now 27 points better off than last year, ahead of Leeds (17) and Aston Villa (16). At the other end of the scale, Sheffield United fell to being 28 points off; only Liverpool, who didn't end up playing, have a worse record.

With two matchdays to go, nine teams have already improved on their points totals of the previous campaign, while six are guaranteed to finish with a negative comparative tally (Wolves obviously being one of them).

The last update during the season as obviously the update after 38 games will simply be the same as the real final table as all distortion of the fixture ends once all matches have been completed.

Wolves repeated last season's loss at Everton (2-3) and so remain 13 points worse off than last season. The best possible comparative finish remains to end on minus 11 points.

With one matchday to go, half the league has recorded improvements on their points totals of the previous campaign, while six are guaranteed to finish with a negative comparative tally (Wolves obviously being one of them).

Wolves' comparative performance for 2020/21:
14 points down on last season (45 pts vs 59)

Points comparison:
+26 West Ham
+25 Leeds (compared to Bournemouth)
+20 Aston Villa
+10 Everton
+8 Manchester Utd
+7 Fulham (compared to Norwich)
+5 Arsenal, Manchester City
+4 Leicester
+3 Tottenham
+1 Chelsea, Newcastle, Crystal Palace
0 Brighton
-8 West Brom (compared to Watford)
-9 Southampton
-14 Wolves
-15 Burnley
-30 Liverpool
-31 Sheffield Utd

Comments:
Wolves ended the season 14 points down on last season's points tally as one of six clubs in the negative numbers.

Liverpool were the only team in the top half to regress, but last season's enormous points tally gave them plenty of room to decline and still make the Champions League. By contrast, Sheffield United's regression from mid-table cost them their place in the league.

West Ham and Aston Villa made the biggest steps forward of the clubs in the league last season. Two of the promoted sides outperformed those they replaced, but only Leeds survived in the end.

From being only 2 points down and having a comparative points league position of 7th following Game 15 (1-1 vs Tottenham), Wolves declined and made only occasional steps forward afterwards. The final position of -14 pts after Game 38 was an equal season worst (first set by losing at home to West Ham 7 games from the end).

...And therein unfortunately lies the truth, whether Nuno was pushed or left voluntarily is pretty much immaterial, cold hard facts are difficult to argue against.
11pts from the last 12 games is borderline relegation form.
