I see the press are lauding Billy Sharp for breaking the championship scoring record of 122 goals. Whilst this is no doubt a fantastic achievement, upon examining the fine print this is actually quite an artificial record as the EFL are only counting goal scorers since they rebranded in 2004.
For context our very own Stephen George Bull scored 164 second tier goals between 1989-1999. I don’t know if that is the record for the 2nd tier.
So, well done Billy, but you’ve got some way to go yet son.
