Alan Brazil’s boosts
Brighton v Manchester United (Thu, 8pm)
Thursday’s match sees a repeat of the FA Cup semi final of a week and a half ago, which saw Manchester United defeat the Seagulls on penalties after a 120 minutes of goalless action.
Manchester United will be aiming for their second win over Brighton in as many weeks as they look to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League by finishing in the top four.
Erik ten Hag’s side need nine points from their final six matches to be mathematically certain of a top four finish.
Ahead of Thursday’s match, the Red Devils sit fourth in the table, four points clear of fifth placed Liverpool after their 1-0 win over Fulham, with two games in hand, and a win for Man Utd would lift them up to third ahead of Newcastle.
Brighton will be out for revenge on Thursday night from their FA Cup defeat as they continue their bid to secure a top seven finish and secure qualification for European football for the first time in their history.
Roberto de Zerbi’s side got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 6-0 thrashing of Wolves to put an end to their two match losing streak.
The Seagulls head into the match in eighth place, but by the time their match kicks off they’ll have three matches in hand on all three of the teams above them.
A win against the Red Devils on Thursday night would take them up to sixth and into the Europa League qualification positions, and four points shy of Liverpool, still having played two games fewer.
United’s win over Brighton last month put an end to the Sussex side’s two match winning streak over the Red Devils – United’s last visit to the Amex ended in 4-0 defeat almost exactly a year ago to the day, which ended their seven match winning streak against the Seagulls.
