Does anyone one else think that wearing black socks with black shorts makes it harder for our players to pick each other out at times .but with gold socks this breaks things up .Only a theory but you never know little things make a difference

In answer to your question, no, but I do not like us in black socks at all. Bring back old gold!

Great thread.......finally someone asked this question.

Studies in the States football and hockey leagues show that sock colours have a negative affect on a team’s performance.
Something like a .0000025 difference.
Rumour has it that’s how the N.Y. Islanders won it in ‘85.

My Dad grew up in the east end of London in the fifties and sixties. He often recalls the day the smog was so bad he and my mum walked past each other on the pavement but couldn't see (pick) each other (out).

I've always questioned the validity of his claims, i mean if you couldn't see how would you know? I now believe him though as i just asked him what colour his socks were that day.......... I think you know the answer.

I really don't think it makes a difference at all.

If you look at our history of successes/failures and the socks we had at the time, it's a bit of a mixed bag.....

1891-1935 - Black Socks - 2 FA Cups, 2 Relegations, 2 Promotions (Div 3 and Div 2 Titles)
1935-1963 - Hooped Socks - 2 FA Cups (plus 1 Runner up), 3 Div 1 Titles, 5 2nd place finishes, 4 3rd place finishes
1963-1983 - Gold Socks - 3 Relegations, 2 Promotions (1 Div 2 Title), 2 League Cups
1983-1986 - Hooped Socks - 3 Relegations
1986-2002 - Gold Socks - 2 Promotions and a Football League Trophy
2002-2008 - Black Socks - 1 Promotion, 1 Relegation
2008-2019 - Gold Socks - 3 Relegations, 3 Promotions (2 x Championship Title and League One Title)
2019/20 - Black Socks........

Hooped socks have been worn for our most successful and least successful periods, so I'd roll the dice and go back to them!

OP is on a wind up.

Playing with black socks is ****e though. It isnt Wolves. What I found quite interesting and funny was in one of the Asia games because of kit clash we played in gold socks... from last season! Adidas the tight ****ers wouldn't even come up with socks that matched the current kit.

Last seasons top was superb. A real modern throwback and id be happy to see us play in it for 10 years.

Personally. I think we should go back to the style of sock we wore in 57-60, which was the reason we won back-to-back Championships and the FA Cup: black and gold hoops but with an extra large gold hoop on the calf area. Peter Broadbent's hosiery was particularly fetching.

We have black socks with away kit too... seems we are doomed. Time to get the 3rd kit out with the green socks !

You're right, official socks are gold. Guess it depends on the opposition colour sock which we wear.
It's ridiculous really - the 2 times we HAVE to wear the away kit against Watford and Norwich we won't be able to wear the proper away kit in full. We all know it will be green at Vicarage Rd and I'm guessing it will be all black at Norwich as gold socks will clash with there yellow ones.

We should have gold socks all the time. Black socks and worse still hooped socks need to be banned for eternity...
