The 18-year-old midfielder has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, and will join up with Mick McCarthy's side for the remainder of the campaign in order to get more first-team experience.

The Ghanaian-born player missed most of the 2010-11 season with a serious knee injury and will be hoping to make up for lost time after watching Jack Wilshere, with whom he played in the Arsenal youth team, prosper and force his way into the England side.

Frimpong joined the north London club as an 11-year-old and was a key part of the youth team that won the FA Youth Cup in 2009 and the league title a year later. He was first called up to the first team when he was named as a substitute in the 2008-09 Carling Cup aged only 16 but, due to his injury last season, Frimpong did not make his full competitive debut until August 2011 in a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.

While he has represented England at youth level, Frimpong is still eligible to represent Ghana at senior level although his manager, Arsène Wenger, has urged the former to secure the player's services.

A statement on the Arsenal website said: "Everyone at Arsenal wishes Emmanuel the best of luck during his time at Molineux."

Arsenal

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Transfer window

guardian.co.uk © 2011 Guardian News and Media Limited or its affiliated companies.
