I don't doubt we have fans like that too. The more the country moves towards the right the worse it becomes imo.
Someone put it on a wolves “fan” page on Facebook. Some of the responses were astonishing to be honest. At best some were ill judged at worst just downright racist.

Manny put on about tolerance towards other peoples faith and was jumped on pretty hard by a load of our “fans”.

Had a friend at work tell me that her nephew had his season ticket confiscated by WBA following the game. He's got it back now.

I can't comment on whether the lad is naughty or not but she didn't seem to impressed about what he had got up to (she didn't say what it was).

I think Manny said he saw a couple of players. Can't remember who, but every chance RAN and/or Mario were there.
Mario was at u 23s
Adama led the event last year. I’m not sure we had a player there yesterday, i saw photos from those that were there.

Some absolutely horrible responses from our ‘fans ‘ especially on Facebook

Bellegarde, RAN someone said they saw them there.

When you mix sport & religious views you will always have cultural differences especially now the UK has a left / right wing divide

Appalling response to this by some of our fans on social media, I wouldn't blame our muslim players for wanting to leave tbh.

I’ve never understood this approach

I’m not very religious, probably C of E, wolves born and bred, but I have travelled a lot and some of my most magical memories are of sitting in some far off Arabic square hearing the call to prayer as dusk falls. Just as I love old English country churches and pubs

Couldn’t give a toss what some knobheads want to think, it’s a message of love and peace. Every religion has its bigots and I’m proud that our club does this to show tolerance

UK has always had a left/right divide though, and more relevantly it's always had racists, just that the racist like the one on twitter I linked above have been empowered to voice their opinions via social media. I don't see this as mixing sport and religion, just using the club's role in the community to try to foster good community relations, it's not trying to convert anyone to any religion.

Great documentary series started on Channel 4 last night called Defiance: Fighting the Far Right. It's basically a history of the abuse that people of different races and faiths have put up with in this country and how they have fought back. It started looking at Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims in Southall in the early 1970s. It's uncanny, exactly the same types of comments on the streets back then as you see on social media now. Back then you could see how the abuse grew when politicians pushed agendas (then it was Enoch Powell) along with the media ( then it was The Mail, The Sun). This brought about the rise of The National Front and led to violence and intimidation. There was even a NF protest about immigrants being temporarily housed in 'luxury' hotels. You can see all the parallels now

When this sort of stuff happens I think about my great mate and fellow Wolves fan of Indian heritage and wonder what he goes through on a normal day. We were both at Luton away in the FA Cup when the Wolves fans starting singing a racist song. We left because he feared for the safety of his mixed race kids. I think about my eldest daughter who I worry about every day. She's mixed race and a Wolves fan (she's heard it all before). This sort of stuff makes me so sad but also so determined. They're ignorant, small minded bigots.

Just to add, I imagine those Albion fans posting the racist stuff on social media are very much in the minority. Dislike Albion all you want but they have a great history of fighting racism after the emergence of the three degrees (Regis, Cunningham and Batson). They fought back against racism back then and the vast majority of their fans supported their black players. There was also a great documentary about that a few years ago on the BBC that also featured an interview with our own George Berry who discussed what he went through.

I have a mixed race daughter and despise racists. Well said sir. This isn't something that we can look down on the Boggies over. We have our share of people with very similar views.

Unfortunately all clubs and indeed a portion of society have these outdated views. Anyone who suggests differently isn’t in the real world. You only have to look at recent debates on here about black managers or racism in football to see that somehow some folk are oblivious to it

I genuinely think the last decade it’s raised its ugly head again, perhaps that’s the rise of social media giving these creatures a platform I don’t know.

I’ve looked for that documentary but never found it. Any idea what it was called?

I think even since Musk's take over of Twitter and his freedom of speech rubbish it has given alot more undesirables a platform without getting political Joey Barton can be considered a lefty compared to some of the figures on Twitter with huge followings.

Re your last para a certain referendum seemed to allow many to come out of the undergrowth and never return....

It was called Whites Versus Blacks: How football changed a nation. Unfortunately, looks like it's not on iPlayer at the moment.

Here's a clip interviewing George Berry and Bob Hazel from the programme though.

The one thing "free speech" Musk definitely gets uptight about is people criticising him, lol. The archetypical hypocrite!

Ok, but both can, and should be, anti racist.
I totally agree! I have no time for anyone that judges someone on the colour of their skin. I will however judge based on your values. I have left leaning ex friends who have made ridiculously racist comments, but couldn't see the problem with what they said. Which was basically that a Conservative person of colour was a race traitor as they should be a socialist. That's ideological slavery and utterly despicable!

Interesting. I have known people of colour regard such people similarly.

Yes been watching that too, really interesting. I grew up in the late 70's/early 80's and looking back at that period when i was older it's clear that racism was institutionalized. It's really sad that nearly 50 years on there are still people so ignorant to other peoples beliefs. They should be made to go and live in other countries for a few years so they can appreciate how they fit in where there is a different culture, religion, language.

Did they really though....the club protected it's players? Atkinson was proved to be a horrible racist later on, and sub-continent fans found it hard to attend matches at the Hawthorns when there was a huge amount of them living in Smethwick.
Maybe the club have a decent history of fighting racism, as Wolves do......but some of the local fans are neathanderal and that's just societal ignorance and fear, as it always has been. As glorybox says, it's institutionalised and there are large areas untouched by progress in eradicating racism.

That clip, Christ. And to hear his teammates, probably Wolves players, laughed along with the abuse :(
