It's quite obvious from all of the video evidence that Savile's kick in the back started all of the problems and escalated the situation leading to the free for all. Otherwise the Wolves fan would have been escorted out eventually without any major issue.
The bloke seriously needs sorting, but I don't think it's fair to blame the trouble on him specifically. They were already all over the pitch by then and (despite most of the media coverage) the majority trouble was in the opposite corner.

Good to hear that Adrian Goldberg has called out the WBA "fans" as the reason for the trouble on Sunday, as good as exonerating those Wolves fans who were seated in the home ends.
They shouldn't have been there, they certainly shouldn't have been giving it large in there, and they gave the poor loser inbred knuckledraggers an excuse. Having said all that blaming them is utter rubbish.

Agree with the basic principle of the post. Can't see a bubble helping though, no trouble outside the ground at all from what I saw or have heard since. Also no trouble in the away end either, although I guess someone will imagine we caused the issues simply by being there. Hoping the recommendations are around their ticketing and stewarding as those seem to be the majority causes.

The authorities/police will want to make their lives as easy as possible and they can use the events, even if we can argue whether they are exactly relevant, to restrict the liberties of supporters attending the game which I think would be a real shame when the vast majority can behave themselves.

That Adrian Goldberg did blame the Albion fans, in fairness.

However, he stressed on many occasions how it was disappointing because Albion fans are 'sensible'.

'We're not like Birmingham City. We're not like Wolves. And that's what we've prided ourselves on over the years'.

:D :D
I'm sure that 'nosers and me golden babbies are, were, and always will be happy that Boggies are different and "special".......

Combined with the final demise of the last vestige of any pretence of footballing superiority over us, the end of their claim of somehow being a 'classier' fan base, as summed up with the whole 'dingle' thing, is almost as great an outcome of Sunday for me.

For those like me with long memories: a Wolves-Albion game has been abandoned before, but it was due to the weather. Just after Christmas 1962, we played them at Molineux and went in for the HT cup of tea leading 2-0. Then it started snowing in bucketfuls, and the teams never emerged for the 2nd half, the ref had to call it off. It was the beginning of the Big Freeze of 62-3. So the Albion thought they had got out of jail. The game was replayed in March 63, and the Albion were again 2-0 down at the break. This time the weather was kinder, and Wolves ran out 7-0 winners, our biggest ever defeat of the ****e!
Thanks for that

Surely banning away fans simply increases the risk of fans being in the home end though?
I don't think so, I imagine those fans who had tickets in the Albion fans still probably travelled with other Wolves fans, despite being in the home end there would have been some reassurance there were 4,00 of their own at the other end of the ground.

There have been no away fans for the last year or so at Rangers/Celtic games. Technically that's down to a ticketing dispute between the clubs, but it sets a precedent.

PS in the same season, Wolves Reserves beat Albion Reserves in the Central League 8-1. The Albion goalkeeper for both games was the same: Tony Millington! Imagine having 15 put past you in two games against the same club!

Would make sense, before my time, but my Mum always used to say it snowed on Boxing Day '62 and the snow was still there at the end of February '63.
It's was still there in early March mate! I went to a home game v Sheff Utd on January 10th which I think was the only game played that day in the top division because of the weather The pitch was completely covered in snow, how on earth it went ahead I'll never know. It nearly froze my *******s off standing on the South Bank. The crowd was just over 10,000, and it was a 0-0 draw. They players didn't want to be there, they just passed it round between each other like it was a training drill. Madness

And the play offs, where they were allowed to come right up to the away end to gloat and goad us for what seemed like an eternity. Unlike them lot Sunday we were again very restrained despite a gut wrenching defeat and serious provocation.

Said it time and again, but Albion and blues are peas in a pod.

Irrespective of league positions, Wolves and Villa have always been the stellar clubs of this region. Even un the way we view ourselves.

Albion and blues have such a small tine mentality, it’s literally ingrained into the very core of the fan bases. That’s why days like Sunday happen. It’s pure deep rooted resentment of their more illustrious neighbours. When they are winning, it obviously felt fantastic for them. Now they are back in the shadow of us and Villa that resentment comes to the surface.

Wonder why it’s taking so long to punish them or are they going to get away with any punishment

Absolutely ****ing bonkers that grown adults aren't mature enough to sit together just because they like a team of players in different colours.
while i agree with you, and i’m sure we’ve mentioned this before, sport here, particularly football is tribal.
The franchise model in the US and Canada takes away from that for me.

Surely it’s poor security to allow a fan to bring in a flare .
i was at a Courteenerw gig at Old Trafford, the week after the Manchester Arena bomb.
Thorough searches of everyone and still loads of pyro got in.
where there’s a will..

A while ago a friend asked me to accompany him to a rugby match at Leicester. Though not a massive rugby fan, I thanked him and went along. It was Leicester Tigers v Saracens. What a difference it was to a football crowd.

Fans of Tigers and Saracens were sat next to each other.
Alcohol was served and allowed in the stands.
There was good natured banter, but not the slightest sign of trouble.
Stewarding was low key and their main job was helping visiting supporters to find their seat.

All in, it was a pleasant experience, which begs the question why football supporters are so different to their rugby counterparts?
Through work I’ve been to a lot of premier league rugby and six nations games and to be honest I’ve really disliked it. The mixing of fans makes it a sterile atmosphere (for me).

Ultimately football fans can be passionate and partisan without knocking lumps out of each other, or they should be! It’s called being an adult, absolute idiots
