It really made me think but it's not quite true. I think it's 10th best

You've got those slightly wrong, all the 1970s ones are out by a year. We finished 4th in 70/1, 9th in 71/2, 5th in 72-3 etc

So the conclusion is that someone assumed we'd hold onto 12th and then it would have been our (joint) 8th best finish in the league in the last 60 years. In fact it's our 3rd best PL finish and our 40th best finish ever.
