With our place now guaranteed in the PL following Everton’s two points deduction (ignoring any appeals), can I congratulate the club on 7 consecutive seasons in the PL.
Well done to Gary, Matt and Jeff - a feat which in serious doubt at the start of the season.
This is our most successful run since the run from 1967/68 to 1975/76 when we achieved 9 consecutive seasons. Interestingly the 7th season in that run was the season we won the LC for the first time.
What is success for next season. Three suggestions - what are your top 3?
1) Avoid relegation - always the starting point;
2) Progress - build on this season - top half finish? Cup semi/final?
3) Squad - lose only 1 of star players (Neto, Cunha, RAN, Gomes) and reinvest, moved on most of loan players other than 1-2 (Chiquinho and Mosquera?) who come back and add to squad,
strengthen front line.
I could add stadium, Europe etc but for me sustainable progress and excitement.
PS - in case you think I’m wrong re mathematically being safe then remember Luton, Forest, Everton and Brentford have to play each other - we are now in a position where all 4 sides cannot overtake us as one winning means the other drops points.
