History
To recall the roots of the club..
The original Manchester & North-West Wolves Supporters Club was founded over forty years ago on 1st August 1977.
Formed by Editor Phil Painter and Chairman Ron Painter with assistance from friend and travel companion Alan Wigley from Hyde, Cheshire.
Help was confirmed by letter from Wolves Public Relations Officer Terry Bond on 23rd September 1977 who arranged a Wolves programme article.
Founder Members were Phil Painter, Ron Painter, Andria Massey, Keith Christie, Ted Warrington, John McManus, Alan Wigley and Richard Till.
Meetings were initially, held in Partington, and for many years monthly at the Kilton Inn on the A50 in Mere near Knutsford.
During the 1980s and 90s, Club Secretary Andria and later Travel Secretary Keith edited the newsletter, becoming the driving force of the club.
During the late 70s, the club began to run coaches to big home and away matches. For other games Ron drove members by car or mini bus.
John Belsham from Leyland took over mini bus driving duties for many years in the 80s with his dad Len, transporting members to games.
Membership peaked at 120 members. From Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cheshire, North Wales, IOM, Norway. Sweden & South Africa.
The club newsletter was issued bi-monthly from 1977 until the club petered out in 2003. The last issue No 137, in the summer of that year.
Old members still attended matches as Manchester Wolves, and in 2016 renewed demand enabled the club to officially reform again.
Manchester and North-West Wolves FIRST BUFFET DANCE was held at the Manchester United Executive Suite on 15th July 1978.
Wolves 1960s player Gerry Mannion attended the event. As did members of the Telford, Cannock and Daventry Wolves.
In the late 1970s, Altrincham born and Wolves star goalkeeper Paul Bradshaw became Manchester & NW Wolves Honorary President.
Manchester & NW Wolves claim to fame.. giving Paul's dad a lift on their coach down to London for the 1980 League Cup Final.
