Olivier Giroud has suggested AC Milan should look to rival interest from Newcastle United for the transfer of Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic.

The 36-year-old played with Pulisic during his time at Stamford Bridge before going to San Siro in July 2021.

But while Giroud has gone on to help the Rossoneri win Serie A in 2021/22, Pulisic has not hit great heights in west London.

Pulisic has particularly endured a frustrating season so far this term with just 979 minutes to his name to date. He has also only started 10 of his 27 appearances in all competitions.

Just 21 of the American’s outings, totalling 779 minutes, have also come in the Premier League. While his top-flight games have returned just one goal and one assist so far.

Pulisic’s place at Chelsea has Newcastle interested in a transfer

Newcastle took notice of Pulisic struggling to establish himself at Chelsea during Graham Potter’s tenure this term.

Journalist Dean Jones claimed in February that Newcastle have eyes on Pulisic’s transfer from Chelsea for this summer. But the Toon are mindful of his wage being an issue.

Additionally, 90min also reported Newcastle’s interest in Pulisic’s transfer from Chelsea in February. But the Blues sacking Potter could put a spanner in the works.

That is because Calciomercato.it noted in April that Mauricio Pochettino has already told Chelsea to keep Pulisic. The Argentine is eager to retain the American if he takes charge.

Giroud would welcome a reunion with Pulisic at AC Milan

What may help Newcastle secure a transfer is that Pulisic only has one year remaining on a £150k-a-week contract at Chelsea.

The Blues are yet to extend his terms since joining from Borussia Dortmund for £58m back in 2019.

But his situation at Stamford Bridge has caught Giroud’s attention, too. Now, the striker has hinted that AC Milan should look to secure their reunion.

“I think everyone could like him,” Giroud told CBS Sports, via quotes by Sport Mediaset. “He’s a big name in Europe, so he would help us. He is that kind of player with great skills [and] with great talent.

“He was a cheerful boy [when I was at Chelsea], always smiling. We laughed a lot with him. Our understanding on the pitch was also excellent, a bit like with Eden Hazard, even though I played less with Christian. We knew how to find each other.”

Giroud played 32 games with Pulisic and combined for three goals at Chelsea. The striker scored twice from the American’s pass and fed the winger once.
