Strange time to post this given GoN got his pants pulled down and bottomed smacked by Moyes in the second half last weekend.

He certainly got out managed and couldn't cope with tactical changes from the opposition manager.

He couldn't cope with the tactics Mark Robins employed for his Coventry side either.

In a world where specialists are key the fact people suggest a manager can do everything is just nuts.

Coaching teams are put in place to support the manager so the manager can use their strengths whilst leaning on their staff to fill the weaknesses. Fergie did this for 2 decades.
I'm just intrigued as to what tactics you think he should have employed once RAN had gone off?

You can only employ appropriate tactics to counter the opposition if you have the appropriate resources, otherwise you're just the Fuhrer in his bunker in May 1945 planning a massive offensive against the Soviets

From the athletic piece about this. If it's a subjective decision, then why the absolute ****ing hell is the referee sent to the monitor I swear to God these people are so dense it's painful.

If it was a subjective decision, then there were no grounds for any further intervention. The subjective decision had already been made on the pitch and there are no objective grounds for reversal. Just by asking him to look at it again they are implying they don't agree with the subjective decision made.

With Gary O'Neil likely going for a 3421 style, expect emphasis on solid defense and quick counters. Considering the hectic schedule and staffing challenges, he'll need the team to be flexible and work together.

No that's not right. The point is that if (say) Chirewa had touched the ball then the offside would have been a matter of objective fact and therefore the goal would have been disallowed by the VAR. Because it was a question of whether he was interfering then the onfield ref has to make the call, as it is a subjective offside call. Sadly Harrington was wrong, but sending him to the screen was right (as much as VAR is ever right).

But the referee isn't actually making the call once he goes to the monitor. The decision has been made for him. That they send him to the monitor is pure show.

Well it would be an interesting listen, and of course the reality is that is almost always the case, but that is what they meant by saying it is a subjective decision - objectively in an offside position, subjectively interfering with play. So they have to send the ref to the screen under the current protocols.

Absolutely zero chance on either of those links IMO.

How on earth could AC Milan sell Gary O'Neil as their next manager to their fans? They're one of the biggest clubs in the world.

As for Celtic, that article seems a lot of rubbish. Not inevitable at all that Rodgers will leave if they finish 2nd, as virtually all of the blame for that would be attached to the board for not spending.

I wonder if all of this is O'Neil trying to pressurise Fosun into giving him more money to spend/a better contract.

The links to Man United were absurd, but he talked them up and said it was an honour. Now he's linked (I use the term loosely) with two other big clubs.

Unfortunately for Gary, if it is, I don't think this approach will work with Fosun.

Difficult to say conclusively of course, but there may well be something in that. Lop did it more overtly, talking up a potential move to Italy. Maybe Gary is asking his newfound mates in the media to put feelers out for him in a more subtle way. As you say though, this simply will not wash with Fosun. They do not play games of chicken with their head coaches.

I don't see O'Neil as operating that way to be honest, maybe that's just naive, but I think he'll do everything he can to work with Hobbs to persuade Shi that spending money (even just the money we generate) is vital. The only way we'll struggle to keep him is if the goalposts get moved on him, as this seems to have already happened in January. Shi really needs to learn you can't treat people like that and expect loyalty in exchange.

I really don't see an Italian club going for a baby English manager, even one as promising as Gaz. Seems silly.

I'm sure Celtic would love him, and **** Brendan Rodgers, but I don't see that either.

Give him a full preseason, a good campaign, and maybe, though. If I were him I'd want two full years at Molineux to develop and then see what's what. So long as the club isn't stripped bare, it's either be has more resources or the same low expectations, and either one is fine for his development.

How can you interview someone under contract?

1 breach of contract
2 being tapped up
No, not necessarily. I imagine that it would require permission from the club. Otherwise only out contract coaches would get interviews?

Assuming this isn’t just *******s made up as click bait of course.

Again I remember this happened before Nuno got axed.

Nuno got linked with Villa and other clubs….

Hopefully the same thing doesn’t happen. I do believe Liverpool would be too big for him to turn down ultimately

Personally think its career suicide for anyone but a elite level manager to go there after Klopp

He won't say no to either United or Liverpool. Potter wouldn't have said no, either, but had to settle for Chelsea - where his star fell and is still lying in a muddy ditch to this day.

Regardless of what happens, clubs like Brighton and Wolves will never be allowed to complete a finished building. You might get the upper floors done and begin working on the roof, only for an elite club to come and take your foundations away.

Then you build again, only to have your windows and doors taken. Of course, we do the same to lesser clubs both home and abroad - it's the nature of the beast.

GON has his head screwed on, he knows that he needs to stay at a club for a greater length of time to prove himself as a good long term manager capable of building and improving over a longer period of time. He’s done brilliantly at Bournemouth and with us but, for my money, isn’t showing himself as a long term option for anybody better than us because there’s no evidence as to how he will do with a transfer kitty and a pre season.

He won’t go anywhere this summer unless Fosun/Jeff shaft him and Hobbs with the transfer budget. In which case I would expect both to leave immediately and understandably so.
