That last sentence is absolutely damning for a team in its sixth consecutive season in the PL.
It is but at one point this season we had Santi, Hugo, Doherty, Doyle, Traore, Sarabia, Bellegarde and Kalajdzic.

Injuries have done us because we failed to strengthen further. One is a consequence of the other.

A failure to strengthen would have been bad enough. We actually weakened in January (not for the first time).

Could he Come back from a third ACL injury?

Yes, he could still play at a lower and less physical league. But he will always be a massive injury risk.

But at the top level, in a physical league. I am saying he is definitely finished.

Any chance of a sale is pretty remote unless it is in the 5-7m range.

I don’t know the policy wolves and the player have. There are a few different ones.

So for example I have seen the following happen first hand;

Player gets a lump sum for the remainder of their contract. This money CANNOT be touched by the agent! they will then get a second payment or instalments of a sum of money that is calculated on projected future earnings based on salary at the time of the injury.

The club then get a %age of the transfer paid for the player back. But this is a complicated thing based on appearances and a few other things. For example his previous injury record could reduce the amount we get, as he will be a “high risk asset” this was a term I have seen when a club I worked at did this process.

Wolves can, offer him a payment to entice him to start this process.

For example, I got a payout when I did my ACL and LCL as my specialist and club support said I wouldn’t recover enough to sign full
Pro terms due to the age I did the injury as a keeper as I lost some dive length from that leg and needed a lot of strapping to just train let alone play.

This is where the side of football people don’t want to think or see comes in…… what is best for the club in terms of not losing their ass on asset that is potentially pretty much useless to them.

I finally retired from paid sport after one injury too many playing rugby after coming back from the following injury list (some I have forgotten)

Torn ACL and LcL - the injury that stopped me playing academy level football

From playing rugby :
One hairline break to my ankle
Broke every finger MULTIPLE times, so cannot fully straighten 3 of my fingers…….
Three broken metatarsals
Dislocated same knee I tore ACL in, which left me with long term patella tendinitis after rehab
Micro fractures to lower spine
Torn ankle ligaments and tendons
Torn shoulder ligaments
And multiple slipped discs
Need to wear glasses after a clash of heads in a tackle…..

I retired when I picked up one more injury that had a three month rehab as mentally I was just broken and didn’t have it in me to try again. I was only 28 when I retired from rugby……

so from 16-28 that is my injury list…..

I am still in pain from my left knee and right shoulder and my ankle on a really cold day throbs…….

I would not want him to live his life in constant pain….. it isn’t worth it, he is a young guy about to become a father, he has his whole life still ahead of him.

But he is a professional athlete, so he may well have the drive to try and defy the odds again!!! I applaud him and will support him every step of the way if he tries!! But I will still worry about him and the damage and pain he is likely to face later down the road…..
Ouch!

Wouldn’t change it for the world though!!!!!! Hahahaha

It is why I can see him going again……

but from personal experience now with long term pain and looming operations and joint replacements, I hope he really thinks the process of return through and if it is worth it……

Injuries have done us because we failed to strengthen further. One is a consequence of the other.

But GON went long periods not using some of those players unless forced too.

both buenos and sasa have been and were just numbers in the squad, not really used options so what use were they in the hard light of day? Add Doyle in to that mix….. barely seen as Traore was used more until the death of Mario’s dad, when he got the chance to show he deserved more pitch time…….

So by choice GON actually made the squad smaller as he had players he has actively not used unless injury or suspension forced them to be included.

That is on the manager, but he inherited two of the three so no real criticism as they clearly aren’t “his type of player”

The forward we missed out on in Jan for small outlay - as per GON comments- was Carlos Vinicius on loan( after Fulham signed Broja).

Shi vetoed it and club staff( not just GON) were not happy

Clearly he didn’t meet Jeff’s “generational talent” benchmark as he has a real eye for striking talent

Hahaha

Wasn't he someone we were really interested in before his move to Spurs? When you consider how each Premier League place gives about £2.2m in money, just think how much we're going to throw away these next few weeks by not signing a striker. Just 1 place difference would probably have covered the cost.

It is, but our bench is pitiful and gets worse every season.
An odd observation of mine is that the PL bring in all this ffp stuff; but also allow 5 subs from a bench of 9… which actually puts pressure on clubs to have/spend more.

If today was the old 3 subs from 5. Or even 3 from 7. There wouldn’t be so much clamour for more spending.

I can see that actually....when his name was mentioned very late on in the final hours of the window I thought it might happen...seem logical with him being moved out from Fulham , mendes link etc.. he is even Brazilian...he isn't the best but would have given us the extra body we needed for just wages probably.....

Probably about the best you would get in a January when you have no money....

Why is he having ANY SAY in what players we sign?

Absolute madness. The chap knows nothing about football and he has the final say? Unbelievable

Here’s a thought, can we sign our own independent VAR official? Should earn us some points.

Maybe each team could have a representative in with the VAR so they can have immediate agreement on decisions and any that aren’t agreeable, refer to referees on field decision.

So the Sky 6 would immediately move to have ex top referees, who would be deemed more credible, as their reps.....

We could just sign Cantona up to king fu kick the **** out of them, or Pepe to smash the lot up when ex refs who’ve never played the game try to tell former pro players they are wrong.

Anyway, I’ve diverted; summer window, it’s clear we need more reliable players as well as a deeper squad - we’ve had many occasions where our star players break down with injury and our momentum is completely halted. Neto and Hwang are the obvious examples of regularly injured players. Obviously a better squad depth is important to support in this too as less reliance on said stars should protect them a little better.

Dreadful by Shi if correct.
With the benefit of hindsight yes....

But let's be honest Vinicious is complete **** ...been dreadful for Spurs and Fulham.....had we signed him we would be saying how **** he was....better than the puppies we have granted but would he have been worth the wages definitely not.......

We would all be saying another favour for Mendes ...if someone had asked me to pay his wages why we were clearly watching the pennies i would have said "Get lost"..

Maybe his ‘soft’ headbutt on Max meant he didn’t pass the no d##khead rule!

Even that bench is a bit suspect for this level.

Agree fully, but Shi should not be anywhere near recruitment decisions. The end.

I slightly disagree with that. He shouldnt be anywhere near decisions based on if he thinks a player is good enough or not. If its a financial decision, then i think he should be.

Not trying to stick up for the bloke, but the details are very thin on what the reason was he vetoed the signing ( if its correct that is ). Was the small outlay being talked about the loan fee, or loan fee and wages.

It was because he didn't think Vinicius was any better than Fraser. 100% a decision based on judgement of a player.

I accept that this is all speculation, but the source is excellent.
The day that we rely on Jeff Shi's assessment of an individual player's football ability is the day that our club is in deep dog pooh.

Well yes on which player we sign.....but its him who will inevitable decide can we spend the money as it will be his head on the block if he doesn't follow the orders from China....jeff follows the orders from Fosun...

technically worse in a way....Vinicius has shown he isn't up to the premier league, bar one season in Portugal he has shown he isn't really up to a certain level of football.....As least when we signed Willian Jose he was untried but on the back of a few decent season in La liga and has returned and still done ok..

lets be honest if we had signed Vinicius on January 1st in the window we would have been horrified ...but some are using it as a stick to best Jeff with when we didn't panic with an hour to go....off course we needed one but at no point was he the answer...

Unbelievable that you think someone who has been in a role for so long knows "nothing" about the sport.

He didn't make a judgement on players abilities... someone else did that and he made the decision it wasn't financially viable, or likely to work in our favour.

Also it still amazes me that people deride everything he says or does in public but immediately believes someone posting something on a message board as absolute gospel. Nonsense

Yep, boggles the mind.

I'm not even a fan of Shi. I've said it plainly many times. I think we could have a better person in the role. But to suggest he knows nothing is absolute nonsense.

"There is a goalkeeper who is doing very well at Villarreal. This is Filip Jørgensen (2002), a player who has a contract until 2027 with the Yellow Submarine. Filip Jørgensen, due to his age and the quality he has shown on the pitch, is appreciated by many European clubs . In the Premier League, Newcastle and Wolverhampton follow closely; in Germany, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund. In recent months, scouts from Italy, especially Juventus, have also come to watch him closely."

Another reliable source linking us to a keeper. Can safetly say I dont think Sa will be here next season

I can safely say Jeff Shi knows nothing about the qualities of players and the actual game of professional football. Most CEO's don't, he's no exception.
