Happy birthday today to

Meritan Shabani (25)

and a posthumous birthday for

Harry Hargreaves (1896-1975 - 53 appearances 1921-22)

Weekend birthdays for

Ernie Hunt (1943-2018 - 74 appearances 1965-67. Fun fact. Ernie wasn't his real name. his real name was Roger but he adopted his fathers name of Earnest and shortened it to avoid being confused with Liverpool's Roger Hunt)

George Laking (1913-97. Was at Wolves 1934-36)

Jackery Jones (1877-1945 - 314 appearances 1900-13. member of the Hall of Fame)

Ernie Hunts free kick goal for Coventry City against Everton is still the best I have seen.

Everyone who has supported the Wolves has Jack Baynton along with John Brodie to thank for their efforts in founding St. Luke’s, who of course became Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Little did they know the ecstasy and the agony that football team would put their supporters through!!

Happy birthday today to

Robert Thompson (86 - 1 appearance 1954-59)

and a posthumous birthday for

David Robson (1873-1926 - 5 appearances 1894)

and finally, not Wolves related but the genius that was Brian Clough would have been 89 today. I'm sure many will agree with me when I say he was the greatest manager of all time.

What is Jed Wallace up to these days ? Did he not give up football a while back to join some strange backward village cult that recently got pulverised by a far superior tribe who overran them on a field in a place called The Poorthorns :p:p:p

I remember being so excited when we signed Havard Flo. I don't think he did too bad?

Of all the Scandinavian target men we signed he was the best. That said with Jon-Dadi Bodvarsson and Bjorn Sigurdarson as your main competitors I am hardly going out on a limb with that sweeping statement ;););)

A posthumous birthday today for

The wonderful Dave Wagstaffe, who would have been 81 today

and not Wolves related but the great Sir Tom Finney would have been 102 today. Obviously much too young to have seen him play but my Grandad always said that, alongside Duncan Edwards and Sir Stanley Matthews, Finney was the best he ever saw.

What a player Waggy was. The Doog once said that when Waggy crossed the ball, he didn’t have to move because Waggy would put it right where he wanted it.

Happy birthday today to

Bob Hatton (77 - played 10 games for us 1964-67)
Ricki Herbert (63)
Steve Claridge (58)

I have a great Mate who is a Blues fan ( I like to keep an eye for people less fortunate than ourselves ;) ) and he waxes lyrically when he talks of their early seventies forward line of Bob Hatton, Bob Latchford and Trevor Francis.

To be fair, that's not a bad forward line. Almost (but not quite) as good as King John and The Doog

Bloody hell Mate, it was bad enough reading that a member of The Specials is one year off 70 but then to see Lisa Stansfield is 58 ( what a singing voice she had ! ) has made my ageing bones creak even more this morning :) :) :)

When I was an Industrial Civil Servant I worked with a right character who in his spare time was a Disc Jockey. In fact his operation was called Don's Disco which sounds something right out of Phoenix Nights ! Don refused to play Whigfield's " Saturday Night " When I asked him why, he answered " I refuse to have that utter tripe on my decks just because it reminds people of their week on the Costa Del Sol. " Amazingly he remained very popular and was never short of bookings despite his Whigfield stance :D:D:D
