Norwich 0-0 Newcastle
Allan Saint-Maximin is a very skilful player, but sometimes he does try to beat everyone when maybe a pass would be wiser. He weaves around one, two, three Norwich players but then allows the ball to trickle away from him and out for a home throw.

Sounds like a player we sort of have on our books does it not?;);)

How far can Newcastle get by end of season ? On a hell of a run

Imagine if Villa had got Eddie Howe and Newcastle got Gerrard instead. Would it be Villa storming into the top half instead? I have the Villa Leicester match on and it seems Villa delusion affects the commentators, too. After going on and on about how disappointing this season is for Villa, they later then drop in "Villa haven't finished in the top half of the table for 15 years". How can it be "disappointing" to finish probably better, or at least roughly the same, than where you usually end up? They should be grateful if they can hang on for another season, such a wasteful club living in cloud cuckoo land where they really believe they are some sort of European giant just temporarily embarrased (for the past 20 years).

But the Gerrard obsession is really maddening. And they are a really poor team, Leicester better but struggling with injuries.

Presumably we have been working on our style all this season? It's just taken some time for the changes to take effect, so well drilled were the players before. And also, many were bought specifically because they fitted in with the old style. The solid, slow defensive line, with one or two electric bursts of pace as our main threat. No fast one-touch play while retaining possession, for example.

I'm still not quite sure exactly what our goal scoring plan is, though. It seems a bit "hit and hope". Watching other teams, we rarely try the kind of move that produces the clear chances - accurate, intelligent passes behind the opponents defence, for example. Or crosses to the Big Man Up Front :D It doesn't really matter what it is, but teams need some reliable means of goal scoring, else they don't score many goals. Hit'n'hope can work, but on other days it produces a dud and that's pretty much what we've seen this season.
I think Bruno has tried to balance adapting our style to the way he wants against working with what they know to pick up points.

It’s resulted in a mishmash style but we’re 8th.

This may sound backwards but I think if we were lower down the table we’d have seen more of the style Bruno wanted by now as he’d have fully committed to it. As it is we’ve an outside chance of Europe and he probably doesn’t want to throw that away with half a dozen or more sloppy games because we’re working on a new way of playing and taking time to implement it.
