Gabriel Magalhaes has claimed that one Arsenal player was finding things ‘difficult’ last season.

Arsenal remain in the hunt for a Premier League title after picking up a crucial win at Wolves on Saturday.

Many Arsenal supporters would have feared the worst following consecutive defeats to Aston Villa and Bayern Munich.

Of course, the Gunners were in a commanding position last season but a significant dip in form from April led to them missing out on the title.

Mikel Arteta’s men were heavily impacted by an injury to William Saliba, which led to Jakub Kiwior and Rob Holding stepping up in his absence.

It’s fair to say that neither player managed to fill the void left by the Frenchman and Arsenal looked vulnerable defensively.

Gabriel says Jakub Kiwior has improved

Speaking to TNT Sports ahead of Arsenal’s clash against Chelsea tonight, Gabriel reflected on a difficult end to the last season.

The Brazilian claimed that Kiwior had a tough time after stepping into the side. But Gabriel feels the Poland international has made huge improvements since.

“It was difficult for us because we were playing every match together, and of course things change when other players come in,” the Arsenal defender said.

“For example, Jakub [Kiwior] came in, he’s a left-sided defender and he came in on the right side. It was a bit difficult for him, but that’s gone now.

“We know we’re good and we must continue like that. We’ve got five games left [in the league] and we must continue together all season, because if we win those five matches, there are great things to come.”

Kiwior has impressed in 2024

The 24-year-old joined Arsenal from Spezia Calcio in a deal worth £20 million back in January last year.

It was a difficult task for Kiwior to step in and replace Saliba, who had excelled alongside Gabriel.

He was also operating on the right side of the defensive pairing, which isn’t exactly ideal for a left-footed centre-back.

Kiwior barely featured during the first half of this season but he has excelled as a left-back since the turn of the year.

The Polish defender has made the most of an opportunity where both Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu were sidelined.

It’s fair to say that Kiwior is arguably ahead of both players in the pecking order at the moment and at 23, he looks set for a bright future at the Emirates Stadium.
