Former Italian international Antonio Cassano has said that Tottenham Hotspur manager target Roberto De Zerbi is the best coach in the world after Pep Guardiola.

That is one hell of a compliment from him, as the highly-rated coach has already been contacted by Spurs in the hopes of appointing him, as per a report last Tuesday.

While Roberto De Zerbi has been lauded for his work at Brighton, which has made him a reported Tottenham manager target, Antonio Cassano has put him in the same category as Pep Guardiola.

Cassano makes Guardiola claim about Tottenham manager target De Zerbi

With European football looking like an increasingly likely possibility for the Seagulls, the former Sassuolo boss has become the people’s favourite coach.

Even those that work with the master tactician are massive admirers of him, with Yasin Ayari telling Aftonbladet that he is the ‘world’s best coach.’

However, Antonio Cassano has given Tottenham manager target Roberto De Zerbi the highest praise by claiming that he is the best in the business after Pep Guardiola.

“I replied that I hope to see him return to Italy and coach the strongest teams because he is the strongest after [Pep] Guardiola”, he told Bobo TV.

“Football in England is another dimension. Some runaways would leave at the first opportunity. He would like to stay at Brighton.”

HITC View: Devastating news for Tottenham

It would be upsetting to discover for both Daniel Levy and Spurs supporters from the once-prolific striker that the highly-acclaimed coach has no intention to leave Brighton anytime soon.

While many would disagree with Antonio Cassano over his verdict about Roberto De Zerbi only being behind Pep Guardiola as the best manager in the world, there is no disputing that he would make for a cracking appointment for Tottenham.

The way De Zerbi has managed to implement his tactical philosophy at the Amex Arena and that too mid-season deserves all the applause in the world.

If the 43-year-old was in N17, he would have been well capable of turning the club’s fortunes around.
