Erling Haaland proved he is human after all as he missed a number of chances in Manchester City’s 2-1 win against Leeds.

The result has seen the Citizens extend their lead over Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table to four points.

The scoreline flatters the Whites, who were battered by Pep Guardiola’s men for the majority of the match and would have conceded more if Haaland had his shooting boots on.

Norway international Haaland went into the match having scored in his last six top-flight games – finding the back of the net on eight occasions.

The last game Haaland had failed to chip in with a goal contribution in a Premier League fixture was the 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest on February 18.

And for only the second time since joining City last summer, Haaland failed to score in the league after having five or more shots.

He registered six shots against the Whites at the Etihad – the same amount he mustered in October’s defeat to Liverpool.

Three of his efforts were classified as ‘big chances’, as just two of his strikes forced a save out of Leeds’ back-up goalkeeper Joel Robles, who was making his first league appearance of the season.

He also clipped the woodwork with an effort in the second half after being put clear through on goal.

Haaland, who tripped over his own feet when attempting a shot early in the game, then had the perfect opportunity to register his 36th league of the campaign when City were awarded a penalty.

But he allowed Ilkay Gundogan to take the spot-kick with the German on a hat-trick, only for his shot to smash off the post, leading boss Pep Guardiola to rage at the ex-Borussia Dortmund marksman.

His display caught the attention of football fans on Twitter with Haaland now tied with Robin van Persie for the most big chances missed in a single campaign [25].

One user tweeted: “Definitely a match to forget for him, and it’s sadly been really narrow margins.”

Another said: “A very disappointing win (if that makes sense). Haaland had a poor game by his high standards.”

A third added: “Poor Haaland. Not his day today.”

This supporter quipped: “Poor from Haaland. Dixie Dean would have had at least three goals today.”

Though some City fans suggested Haaland is saving himself for when he faces Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday night.

One fan stated: “Erling Haaland is missing all those chances so he can warm up for Madrid.”

Meanwhile another posted: “Don’t worry. Haaland is saving the goals for a certain team.”
