Martin Keown was left seriously impressed with one Nottingham Forest player during Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Wolves.

It could and probably should have been so much more for the Reds at the weekend in a game they couldn’t afford to lose.

Matheus Cunha put Wolves into the lead but Morgan Gibbs-White cancelled out his opener before half-time.

In the second half, things got even better for Forest when Danilo linked up well with Gibbs-White to make it 2-1 to the hosts.

However, so often the architects of their own downfall, Forest conceded a 22nd goal from set pieces this season with Cunha grabbing a second.

Still, Keown did find time to rave about one Forest player who he thought was really good during the entertaining draw.

What Martin Keown said about Forest star Giovanni Reyna

It was the moment that Reyna had been waiting for at Forest on Saturday as Nuno Espirito Santo handed him a first start for the club.

Since checking in from Dortmund in January, he’s had to wait patiently and an injury to Anthony Elanga meant he came in from the cold.

Reyna did pretty well too. He looked neat and tidy in possession and on another day he might have helped himself to a goal to aid the Forest cause.

Keown was certainly impressed with his performance and he used his platform on Match of the Day to rave about the USMNT star.

He said: “Reyna came in and started his first game today. I was really impressed with him actually, he was feeding people really well and just getting it down and playing.”

Reyna will now crave more starts before loan ends

Right now, it feels unlikely that Forest will be doing much pushing to sign Reyna for any longer than the end of the current season.

He has been forced to settle for substitute appearances at the City Ground, with Saturday his only start for the team.

At 21-years-old, the future looks bright for Reyna. Dortmund extended his contract before he joined Forest on loan and perhaps they have plans for him.

Whether Reyna keeps his place at Everton likely depends on the fitness of Elanga and if he is available, perhaps the American will be dropped to the bench.

One thing is now clear and it’s that competition for places at Forest is particularly strong at the moment.

Whether it’s Reyna or Elanga, Forest know that they have quality players keen to get in the mix to start games of football and help the team get over the line.
