Subway was before the bridge boys.....subway late 78/79s till about 1983ish....bridge boys was late 1986 till operation growth......... Without going into detail you will always get a lot of wolves lads, like yesterday at at game end of October / early November... And end of march.......
IIRC Subway imploded after the incident at the George before a Leeds away game? I knew one of the guys who was in the George, prosecuted and acquitted.

True not sure prison sentences did anything other than provide a badge of honour for those who wanted it
For some yes.... But not others.... I nw quite a few over the years who have served prison sentences for wolves football related violence..... One for a high profile incident that resulted in somebody losing their life.... He didn't go back to it after his prison sentence.......also had another friend who went down that route and never got out of it really, it was a cycle and a life that he never got out off till his early death

Is my recollection correct that the SA started attacking pubs in Wolvo culminating in the George? I seem to remember the pub on the Wednesfield Road being smashed up. The Locksmith? They really chose the wrong pub with the George.

It was after a Leeds away game. When we all got back to Wolverhampton. The trouble started on the train home and continued at The George.

Walking back to the station yesterday overheard a Leeds fan say he'd got a text saying a Wolves lad had been badly hurt and in hospital. Not sure if true but he wasn't talking about in a bragging way, we ended up chatting about how hitting people because they support another football team is outright stupid.

I was only about 13/14 at the time so any information I got about it came later on.. Got to nw one of the George lot really well, who actually served a prison sentence for the incident ... And over the years also nw quite a few of the subway lot....... Didnt it happen after the Leeds game.. The subway had taken the peacock outside the Leeds ground.. And on the way back decided to do the George..... Apparently they was a confrontation a few weeks earlier at wolverhamptin races.... Wasn't it a case of the younger subway lot trying to take over.. And as you say the George was the wrong lot to try it with...

The only thing on social media is a fight outside McDonalds lol but doesn't look that serious and if anything the Wolves lot are pushing them back but only 5-10 involved from what you can see.

Would imagine more would be out there if it was bad as everything seems to be videod nowadays, with loads on social media of Derby/Coventry which was big numbers and seemed more organised.

Wolves lads do tend to have reunion days,An anniversary of an event or to remember a mate .Against villa last week they were out in force to remember a wolves lad that had recently passed away..(not naming him but some might know who I'm talking about.)I know villa were chased away from a city centre pub. This sort of behavior has not gone away,it's just that it's not reported.
Wolves fans videoing wolves fans fighting, and putting it on social media. Is wats generally called.Grassing on ya mates.Ffs.Especially if they are with that group.

I'm no saint, and have bin around in the 70s.being in the opposition's end and so forth.I get where they come from when they say it's territorial. And how wolves fans from different parts of the country wow understand that.Things have changed for the better now.
Most fights are pre-organised and away from the grounds.Wat med it worse was wen tools were used instead of just a punch up.If knives are used that's a cheap shot.

I was born in wolves, still live here and I hate Wolverhampton being ridiculed. That's just how I am.

I was a North banker (cow shed ) and moved over to the South bank wen everyone did.And I'm still there now, although at 69 I dow wear designer clobber.Car afford it anyway.I recon because of covid and not socialising they are using up their pent up behaviour..it'll die down agen wen they've had the release. Not condoning it but I car say they're idiots either can i...Well I can but I was once an idiot....I'm a lovely bloke now. :tonguewink:

Only saw one incident in Leeds yesterday and that was after drinking in one of their pubs, chatting to some battle scarred old Leeds fans in the Spoons in town and travelling back to the station on one of their service busses. Found it easy to chat to their fans wherever we were.

It’s nothing like it used to be now, yes there’ll be the odd incident but nothing to write home about.

Steve, just the same mate, we are products of our era really.

Just like you, I hate the thought of harming anyone, that is surely the same as 90% of us, but there is this thing that was instilled into us growing up, about defending your town. It almost sounds ridiculous in todays Britain, but I guess that mentality still exists amongst some.

I'd much rather talk footy to anyone these days. But still have those feelings about Wolverhampton. Back in the 70s and 80s it was also one area against the other. The Subway (who were mainly from The Scotlands, Low Hill, Wednesfield, Ashma) did go to pubs in various parts of town. I guess it was the same with Temple St v Queen St back in the 60s.

A reflection of how our society has ‘evolved’ over the last 10 years.

Everything has become more and more polarised with little room for tolerance or compromise, and those divisions have been amplified by social media.

I mean, people genuinely get upset at players taking a knee for 7 seconds in an attempt to promote equality so it shouldn’t be too surprising that things are ‘kicking off’ elsewhere in the game.

I guess the fact that the last 18 months in particular have been such a ****show for everyone doesn’t help, but I can’t for the life of me understand how anyone can get so wound up by a game of football that they would physically assault others over it.
I thinks its Thatchers fault ...

The bridge boys are the old timers like Gilroy. Who have been replaced (see below article)

One of the firm once said to me the adrenaline rush they get was described better than bedding a woman. That buzz they can’t get elsewhere. Iv spoke to a few of the hooligans over the years without knowing who they are until after…. Just normal people who that love a dust up. Bizarre I knows it!!

i knew a fella that worked with my son who called himself a professional hooligan back in the 70s, lived in Cambridge, he didn't support any club, strange lad,

I knew quite a few of the Temple street mate.I can just about remember one Friday night in the Octopus, was a great night,as they always were. But a fight happened between the Temple st,and queen st,which spilled outside. We were playing Spurs on the satuday, and the queen st were mainly made up of spurs fans.I could never and still car understand why We had so many spurs fans living in Wolverhampton.I know a few of my mates were bought up spurs fans, and I do know their parents were ****neys. They worked at the Hilton main collery which was the main industry round here and most of the houses in the old Featherstone village were pit houses.Perhaps they come up for the jobs.? Think in the 60s and 70s,every village had a rival gang.Featherstone used to be called China town.

I grew up 80s south bank. Young kid of ten I used to love it kicking off, thinking it was exciting but not really understanding. I saw a few dark times vs Leeds away, Blues away, a girl friend (not my actual girlfriend) got her arm broken at Derby.
Now I bring my 8 & 10 year old daughters I don’t want to see it, But I miss the hostility of the atmosphere. Now it’s like watching golf in comparison.

Kids start off by acting like roadmen at school now want to kick off at the football. It don’t happen at other sports much so why football? Luckily I’m not old enough to remember how bad it used to be

Definitely one G, I was a bit OCD as a kid and it used to infuriate me that we were using a chant that was misspelt.

It was also used in my school playground late 70s when things were getting heated.

Blimey, I must have been posh. We used to sing “R.O. W I. N. G. Rowing” as we smashed visiting schools on the River Severn in sub zero temperatures

Out of interest, when did the “lads” and the main singing move from North to South?

I used to go with my father into the Waterloo Road Enclosure, but seem to remember to South Bank being more “lively “

Think it started around the season we were in the 2nd division, 76-77.

Started a bit earlier than that, the South Bank was nominally 'the away end' but wasn't segregated so some of the wolves lads started going in there and then grouping up in the middle of the away fans with the sort of result you can imagine.

Walked back to central leeds with thousands of friendly leeds fans and a few wolves fans. They described us as a team on fire and they were happy with a point. No animosity whatsoever. But here on the mix we are back in the 70s and all our players are ****e….

Think some fans love the fact there’s ‘trouble’ in a weird way.

Personally as a football fan I find it quite embarrassing the apparent rise in wannabe tough guys.

Not sure which is more cringe, Wolves fans fighting or singing the “Albion get battered song…”. .both laughably sad.

Left ground late as being local no rush to leave & always have a knack of bumping into Leeds lads that I know when result hasn't quite gone out way.
Was heading towards car park by McDonald's to go up the hill to where we park and 5 police vehicles came up Low fields & turned left past McDonald's with blues & twos on
They were followed by the mounted cops and then a dozen plod.
About 20 mins later we drove back down to head to motorway back towards McDonald's. We were then behind the horses heading back to ground.
At this time there was someone slumped by wall outside mcs being given first aid, only a couple of people stood round & 2 plod
Didn't see any ag(g)ro or any groups of either set of fans around or up at Beeston (top of the hill)

Sometimes yam Just born lucky mate.I certainly wouldn't tell anyone to go to Leeds and everything will be great. They have lads the same as every club in the country. And if yam in the wrong place at the wrong time it might be different.Glad yow had a good experience though.I've bin to every game this year and not seen any trouble, apart from a few spats at villa wen we came out.And these so called villa lads were having a gew at scarfers.Dow think they know of the code of conduct that they reckon on having.Think in hindsight it's probably best to say.All will be ok but watch ya back.

I went to Leeds once with my little nephew (big mistake)! Bustards thumping kids as they walked past that ****y pub towards the ground. I wouldn't pass on one of them if they were on fire!
