It's a start and long overdue. For too long football has operated outside of the realms of good governance and it's about time it was properly regulated in the interest of wider society, rather than a few PL fatcats.
You really think this will mean proper regulation of football? The scope and objectives are so tightly defined so as to be meangless and the big six and sky hold all the power.

Ever heard of regulatory compliance?

Just look at this Government's attempts at regulating the Environment; Schools; Banks; Water; Gas & electricity; the National Grid; Dentists; Railways: Social care; Communications; Social Housing; Gambling...

Nothing significant will change. The regulators will just dine out on all the lobbying.

It is an improvement, but the damage is already done and can't be changed unless the next government decides to stiffen the regulations and broaden them to prevent the financial advantage the rich clubs have regarding Fair Play financial rules, which ATM favour the Sky 6 massively! I hope the next government has a really good Sports Minister like David Howell was.

When in doubt, I assume government interference usually makes matters worse.

It's a starting point. Well aware of issues regarding lobbying. For example Ofgem has been particularly ****e at dealing with energy companies, often favouring companies over consumers.

This government won't be in charge for much longer in any case, and at least having a regulator with a foot through the door will mean a base to work from for better governance of the game.

It may help, although the words horse and bolted come to mind. At least it will make fans feel that someone is there to look after our interests, which is exactly why it is being proposed. That and a pathetic attempt to buy a few more votes before an election.

I’ve found the FCA have improved massively in the last few years
That's because the Financial Services industry has been more than decimated.
If a Football Regulator has the same effect there will only be the Big 6 clubs in existence in less than 2 decades.

With the Bill not having got far enough through the legislative process, it has been binned at the end of this Parliamentary session.

On the back of today’s disgraceful season ticket news, the IFR is needed more than ever.

Was about to post this!!!

I think this may have been one last big jump before a regulator steps in to stop them being so disgraceful in their pricing plans in the future

How would it have helped?

The club would likely have had to propose the plan to the regulator or be forced to explain the decision on why fosun saw fit to **** the fans over.

The regulator could have stopped these disgraceful increases from being so painful

They're proposing that clubs would have to run ticket prices past an independent regulator? I can't see that getting put in place!
