Top Tipster and Broadcaster, Ed ‘Longshot Ted’ Quigley has been in sensational form recently, and is back with his best bets for the opening day of action at Chester’s May Festival.

As you would expect, this Handicap for 3-year-old’s is a race that has a fairly wide open feel to it, but I think the return to 6f can really benefit the Julie Camacho trained WINGED MESSENGER. The gelding is a lightly-raced sort, and he should be spot on for this after a nice pipe-opener at Thirsk last month on the back of a 201-day absence. That was over the minimum trip, and the son of Postponed stayed on well to finish third.
A bit of cut in the ground clearly suits, and off a mark of 73 he is open to further improvement. Drawn in the middle birth of stall 7 should pose no problems, and it is worth noting that he had one start over C&D last term, when finishing second. Considering he was drawn in stall 8 of 8 on that day, the performance can be upgraded. Over the sprint trips on the Roodee, the low numbers tend to fare better.
The Ralph Beckett team are back amongst the winners after a very quiet time of things in April, and the exciting FOREST FAIRY looks to have the tools required to land the Cheshire Oaks. This Listed contest is always a very informative contest, and there should be plenty of class on display. The beautifully bred Forest Fairy, is a daughter of 2019 Arc winner Waldgeist, was unraced as a 2-year-old, and she has had just the one start so far, when she was very impressive when bolting up in a Wolverhampton in a minor event back in February.
She fairly took off, and got the job done in the minimum of fuss, to score by six lengths under Rossa Ryan. The runner-up has won again since, so the raw form has some robustness to it, but it’s all about potential for her, and she can land the spoils here before having a crack at The Oaks.
The Charlie Appleby team are flying high after tasting classic success at the weekend, and they can fire in another winner here with HIDDEN LAW in the Group 3 Chester Vase. He was just touched off on debut behind Cadogan Place at Southwell, but then really went through the gears to pulverise the field in a Newbury maiden, quickening up impressively in the final furlong.
Back into deeper waters here, he looks well equipped to land the spoils, and the draw in stall 2 should do him no harm whatsoever. This is another Godolophin representative full of potential, and he can grab this en route to the top level. William Buick takes the ride and Hidden Law gets the vote from me.
