I see a lot of people complaining about attendances etc on the forum and elsewhere, so after doing to some reading on the NFL blackout rule, I'd love it if something was brought in place in this country for football.
Basically the blackout rule means that if a team doesn't sell out a game before the 72 hour deadline, they simply don't get their game shown on local TV stations, this forces more people to go to the games and stops the lousy armchair supporters, unfortunately its slowly coming to an end in the NFL but I'd love it to be implemented for football. Obviously there a ways the teams work round it by reducing tickets in certain areas by closing them off.
Ofcourse football isnt shown locally on TV like in the states, so it does make it alot harder to blackout games, but IF a game doesnt sell out, then simply their games highlights etc never get shown, this will hopefully get more people to go to games and hopefully filling the stadiums once again.
Now people are obviously going to complain about ticket prices now, well the average price for the worst team in the NFL is $146.53 which is around £90, they sell out nearly every week and they rarely pick up wins.
Its a simple maybe a little over the top way of getting people to go to games but yeah Its my opinion, I'm not suggesting we 'Americanise' the game at all just trying to point out a suggestion to get more people into the grounds.
Thoughts on this ?
Heres a link for anyone wanting to read abit more on the ruling
