Intended as a bit of light hearted fun through the season as we've had these in previous years. Don't think anyone is expecting it to be a walk in the park so no windup intended with this thread.

Over the last few years, 2 points per game (92 in total) should be enough for promotion.
For the more pessimistic amongst you, 50 points should ensure survival = 1.09 ppg.

http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/league-championship/2008-2009/table

After 3 games, one each of W/D/L means we have 4 points = 1.33 points per game.

Dropping two points at the death yesterday means winning the next two would put us back on target.

From various matchreports it seems we should all be dizzy with jolly after getting one point.
Ikeme saved us and Derby looked like prem league Swansea.
There were a better team outthere, and a worse one.
We were the latter..and it wasn´t down to holding on.

Cardiff 3 -1 Wolves (thanks Perton!)

4 games, 4 points = 1ppg.

Automatic promotion (2nd place): 4 games, 8 points = 2ppg.
Play-offs (6th place): 4 games, 7 points = 1.75ppg.
Safety from relegation (21st place): 4 games, 4 points = 1ppg.

4 wins in the next 4 would give a season average of 2ppg. Not looking great even at this early stage.

Wolves 2 -1 Leicester

5 games, 7 points = 1.4ppg.

Automatic promotion (2nd place): 5 games, 10 points = 2ppg.
Play-offs (6th place): 5 games, 9 points = 1.8ppg.
Safety from relegation (21st place): 5 games, 5 points = 1ppg.

3 wins in the next 3 would give a season average of 2ppg. Pace for the play offs is slightly up from 1.75 last time out, automatic and relegation remain the same ppg.

Ipswich 0 - 2 Wolves

6 games, 10 points = 1.67ppg.

Automatic promotion (2nd place): 6 games, 13 points = 2.17ppg.
Play-offs (6th place): 6 games, 11 points = 1.83ppg.
Safety from relegation (21st place): 6 games, 6 points = 1ppg.

2 wins in the next 2 would give a season average of 2ppg. Pace for the play offs is slightly up from 1.8 last time out, Blackpool and Blackburn are setting an unusually high pace at the top.

We are in our traditional finishing position of 7th :)

I was feeling good until I read this....Give us a second I'll just go and have a look at the wife....No, that's ruined the whole evening.

Peterborough 0 - 2 Wolves

7 games, 13 points = 1.86ppg.

Automatic promotion (2nd place): 7 games, 14 points = 2ppg. :)
Play-offs (6th place): 7 games, 13 points = 1.86ppg.
Safety from relegation (21st place): 7 games, 7 points = 1ppg.

Win the next game for a season average of 2ppg. Pace for the play offs is up again from 1.83 last time out, Blackburn losing and Cardiff throwing it away means that the table makes for better reading and we're back to needing 2ppg.

Into the play offs after 3 successive wins.

I think 83 could be enough for automatic.

Despite the BBC Sport site being messed up...

Wolves 1 - 0 Sheffield Wednesday

8 games, 16 points = 2ppg. :D

Automatic promotion (2nd place): 8 games, 16 points = 2ppg. :)
Play-offs (6th place): 8 games, 14 points = 1.75ppg.
Safety from relegation (21st place): 8 games, 7 points = 0.88ppg.

After 1ppg from the first 4, we've turned it around with 3ppg from the last 4, giving an average of 2ppg. Pace for the play offs is down from 1.86 last time out, the table is starting to settle.

Up to 3rd after 4 successive wins.

After our next game at home to Crystal Palace we then face Blackburn and Huddersfield away. IMO these two matches will provide a good test on how far we have really come this season.

We should take one game at a time and deal with it accordingly. Looking at the next 2, 3 or even 23 games puts too many doubts in peoples minds IMO, and this isn't what we as fans or indeed the players need right now.

It's all to good judging on what may happen in regards to what has, but we all know this is football and things can change quicker than we expect. Looking into coming games may seem easy or difficult on paper but fortunately we don't play on paper.

There is nothing more sensible in football than that old saying, 'take each game at a time'.

Manager of the month curse strikes

Wolves 1 - 2 Crystal Palace

9 games, 16 points = 1.78ppg.

Automatic promotion (2nd place): 9 games, 18 points = 2ppg. :)
Play-offs (6th place): 9 games, 16 points = 1.78ppg.
Safety from relegation (21st place): 9 games, 8 points = 0.89ppg.

Back down to earth with a shuddering halt, paying the price for profligacy. A win in the next game will take us to 1.9ppg - easier said than done. 3 wins and a draw in the next 4 would see us back on track at exactly 2ppg.

Back on track?

Blackburn Rovers 0 - 1 Wolves

10 games, 19 points = 1.9ppg.

Automatic promotion (2nd place): 10 games, 21 points = 2.1ppg.
Play-offs (6th place): 10 games, 17 points = 1.7ppg.
Safety from relegation (21st place): 10 games, 11 points = 1.1ppg.

Play off pace is down from 1.78, total required to survive has increased from 0.89ppg. 2 wins and a draw in the next 3 would see us back on track at exactly 2ppg - I don't think it would be unreasonable to expect the top two to settle to that level within the next few games.

Back down to Earth?

Huddersfield 2 - 1 Wolves

11 games, 19 points = 1.73ppg.

Automatic promotion (2nd place): 11 games, 22 points = 2ppg.
Play-offs (6th place): 11 games, 19 points = 1.73ppg.
Safety from relegation (21st place): 11 games, 11 points = 1ppg.

Automatic/Championship title is down from 2.1ppg. Play off pace is up from 1.7, total required to survive is slightly down from 1.1ppg. To get back on track, we now require three wins in the next three games.

On the bright side, 3 points out of the last 2 away games; think most would have expected 3 or 4 so not too far off target, and it's been a bad weekend for most of the sides at the top. That target sounds like doom and gloom, but we're only three points off the top.

WBA 1.91 PPG in a league above us. Who would have thought they would have a better PPG than us this season. Well done them :(
