I had a text to turn over to watch Equatorial Guinea against Tunisia. The ref gave the hosts a penalty even Jones would not have given .A terrible dive.
He kept disregarding awful challenges and play acting.
In extra time EG's keeper feigned injury and he added 2 mins on .A fight then broke out between the 2 benches. He just watched and did nothing for about a minute then just blew several seconds early.
I can honestly say I have never seen a worse refereeing performance and the fact he is a FIFA official is a disgrace.

  2. Apparently Guinea had complained earlier in the tournament about refereeing bias against them !

Well they certainly ended up with a Halsey/Rennie/Jones/Lynch type performance in their favour.

There was a good one last night in the Asian Cup final.
Robbie Kruse seemed to snap his achilles and fell like he'd been shot. Ref booked him for timewasting while he was lying on the floor screaming in agony.

First time I've heard Mark Bosnich lose his rag in commentary, he was screaming "What the hell's going on, where did they find this bloke, absolutely preposterous refereeing".

In this game an EG player rolled around in agony. The ref called on the stretcher.Just as it reached him he bolted up and waved his hand to say he didn't want it.10 seconds before he was half dead.
The ref left him just stroll off.He should have given him a yellow .

Why does this happen every two years instead of every four years again? What a joke.

And at this time of year. The World Cup in SA was in the Summer so why not the CAF ? I appreciate there are many different climates in Africa but there again many countries couldn't afford to host it anyway so they could be selective in their choice.

It's an absolute farce, how can you just lose 8 minutes of a match?

Many of the performances from both players and officials are questionable at best and having it every 2 years in the middle of the European schedule is just ridiculous.

With more and more Africans playing in Europe and becoming key players for many teams surely they will have to change the timing of it otherwise they are only going to harm African players' careers

Its been held since 1957 (and is an older tournament than the Euro's) and we've only been interested since there was a abundance of quality players at cheap prices.

Why should they play when Europe wants them too?

The World Cup has to satisfy all the countries in the world (well the the most influential anyway) whereas the African Nations doesnt - and shouldnt because its got $$$$ all to do with us!

Imagine if the African leagues were the superpowers and they made us play the Euros in Winter?

I don't necessarily agree, as big finance always dictates stuff like this but you make a very fair point.

Because it would have a higher profile particularly with regards to TV and May have a better platform than Eurosport and Channel 4 in this country and no exposure at all in many.
Most of the football associations are broke and as this tournament showed for most of the games they barely half filled 15,000 stadia. They need the money big style.

All I want to know is why the ACN has to be different from every other major federation continental tournament? If you're going to interrupt 90% of the world's leagues, than try to do it as least as possible and conform to an every four year type tournament instead of two. They could barely find a host this year, and now they need to start all over again and find the next one by 2017!

  21. Indeed, but now it has become an inconvenience for both Wolves and most major footballing associations, they must change the set up! :D

Although, if as Jonzy says, the tournament is becoming a financial burden then maybe changes should be discussed. Surely this is up to CAF though, not any other association, with the exception of possibly FIFA?

Maybe because most of the players play in Europe and get paid very well to not appear for the clubs that pay them, you know, to play for them. How about all the European clubs start saying we're not going to sign any more African players if we're going to lose them for weeks on end in what is, after all a crucial time in our season.

They don't have to? Generally African players are cheaper. Teams sign them knowing the issues then complain. It's hilarious.
