Not really, if you look why we made a profit. It was pretty much expected.

Now, get Doyle out the club and we can have a real go next season!

We can spend if I understand FFP.

£14m next season on wages and transfers?

We could make a £39m loss next season if Morgan was prepared to put £33m in himself.

Looks like from the headline that the parachute payments are certainly a factor. Also has to be a positive that we are still well supported enough to increase revenue despite dropping temporarily to League 1.

With the likes of Doyle moving on in the summer, we should be able to improve the team significantly in the summer. I really think we need to invest big time in midfield and improve the service to our excellent strikeforce.

Looks like a fair bit of financial jiggery pokery is going on as per usual. Basically they made "provisions" or took a hit in the previous years accounts (for the onerous wage commitments to the bomb squad). The hit was overdone because some of the bomb squad were offloaded (Henry, Hennessey, Ward etc) and now Moxey gets to look like a genius and no doubt receive a large bonus along the way. Ke-ching!

This is why we wrote off all that money in the last accounts

Jez can get his bonus now :)

Wages for a loan signing (or two)? Don't we have to pay the player's wages in full in some instances (akin to other clubs not being willing to pay Johnson or Doyle's wages in full)

I cant imagine that the club would have said "there you go Rog, here's your full wages paid up front ... now you can go and sign for Charlton and earn even more money". Roger would have had to take some kind of a haircut on his last few months dosh I am sure. If Doyler joins Colorado Tumblers or whatever they are called then I'm sure we will be saving at least part of his remaining wages.

This years turnover will be £8m lower for starters as the parachute payment drops in year 3. Jez will claw a bit of that back with the ticket price hike and slightly higher crowds but championship wages will be higher than league 1 wages I am sure.

E&S have already changed the headline.

We posted a huge 'paper loss' for 2013 and quite a large actual loss.
Now for 2014 we've posted a 'paper profit' but a small actual loss.

Exactly as to be expected tbh - Jez&co gave us a lot of 'wiggle room' regarding FFP but were quite successful in offloading some of the wages last year (e.g. Johnson to Sheff Wed/West Ham) so didn't use up all of the provision.

    They've already dropped

Championship season (after relegation) -- £16million
    League 1 season -- £16million
    Championship (this season) -- £8million

Of course if we get promoted at the end of this season we get nothing

But it's last year account Dews

I can only see this as a positive as the club despite a double relegation are in a healthy position. Promoted from league 1 & tittering on the edge of the playoffs with little outlay.

E&S says we made a £1.7million loss?????? Unless your an accountant, who really knows how all these figures are put together? Profit/loss - it's all smoke and mirrors. Us ordinary fans really have no idea what is available for players, which at the end of the day is what really matters to us. Do we have the cash available to go out and loan/buy a quality player or players to get us over the line?

How can the CEO receive any bonus for this (as suggested by a poster), when it was his own long term contracts that caused the club such financial metdown?

Fed up of hearing this. People moan time after time about us not signing the right players! He goes and signs them, (the only way to attract the best players is to pay the wages and offer them good contracts). In hindsight people are able to criticise when in actual fact at the time 95% of people were ecstatic at the signings (cue people saying they knew all along they were poor signings).

Moxey can't win, he signs players by giving them what they want over rivals . Or he doenst sign players and he gets slated for being a tight $$$$$$$. You can't criticise him for both, as many appear to do!!!

We made a loss in reality, however as the club were very smart last year to write off the "assets" that were the bomb squad along with their wages, these provisions get released back into the accounts this year so it looks like we made profit. To answer your question, we have no way of knowing whether this situation enables us to loan players or not, as we don't know what parameters are being set as acceptable. Also these figures relate to last season, so do not take into account the purchases of Saville or Afobe.

I think it was in jest more than anything, but when handing out these contracts nobody could have predicted O'Hara, Johnson & Doyle would bottle it in the Championship with zero resale value.

NNW - simply terms because we set aside £27m for total spending on wages but only used about £17m of it after players were sold/loaned out.

As in my earlier post, E&S have changed the headline (it was originally £8.5m profit - obviously whoever wrote it didn't know the difference between actual and 'paper' figures).

You're right that even though a £1.7m loss is more accurate, we don't really know what money is available - only way to see that is from the cashflow statement but that will never be released (nor will almost any clubs': far to much sensitive and confidential info in that).

So you think all lesser Premier clubs only get players in if they agree 4-5 year contracts. Laughable.

Well when we lose out to players on supposedly "contract problems" it does indicate other teams offer the player more!

There are very few (if any) other clubs who have found themselves in a position like Wolves, with regard to long term contracts.

Yes not many teams get double delegations with 3 knobs of players. The manager chose the players knowing their attributes and felt he could handle them. It's moxeys job to do whatever in his powers to get them. Had another club offered more, you would have all been in meltdown that we didn't spend enough.

You can't have it both ways

A while ago we certainly had a policy of not allowing contracts to run down. I remember people going mad when we gave the likes of Neil Collins contract extensions when they were clearly designed simply to stop them leaving on frees. I think that policy has been amended somewhat.

It's not letting me quote it but on the Johnson thread from 2011 you have asked

'Does anyone think wages will be a problem? How much is he on at Blues?'

Worried that we weren't going to sign him ;)

I don't agree. You should never sign unknown foreign players on 4 year contracts. Look at the terrible mess that has caused.

As I have repeatedly argued you should in the main sign players on 2 year contracts who are at the end of their contracts (like WBA with Fletcher), if your CEO has any nous and knows how to maximise marekt you shop at, you don't end up like we have. The manager can only choose the players in the market he is allowed into. As has been proven, we were in the bottom 3 wage payers all 3 premier seasons. That IS the strategy of the CEO. Wages brings in quality, I know people feel RJ and DOyle are extremely highly paid, but it is an anchor round our neck not because of the actual wages but because of the length of the contracts.

No one is saying it is easy BTW, but our CEO has failed us massively. Especially when it really mattered he proved to be out of his depth with his long contracts, low wages and sell star players late on policy.

    Indefensible record.
