Kenny still banging the tired drum that he is happy with the squad.
    Ok then Kenny!

First sensible thing he has said for a while.

How much tinkering can a manager do within a small squad to find the right formula? And for how long?

ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, THERE IS NO FORMULA. ITS ALL BEEN TRIED AND TESTED. WE'EM AVERAGE - as Kenny admits.

I'd say he's happy with it because we aren't targeting promotion this year despite what they have had to say!

Much prefer him saying this than telling us the target is the title. Hopefully he has had a reality check.

Searching for the winning formula? The squad has been relatively untouched over the Summer. My understanding is that KJ should have the knowledge he needs, from all of his experience, to appreciate which players are good enough to challenge for promotion at this level.

Let's not be under any illusions, the Wolves board want to see Wolves in the Premier League. Along with x amount of other clubs, we're the archetypal sleeping giant. We need Premier League football.

    1) It's time to assess why, we have played over half the season with one 'proper' striker (sorry Leon)

    2) It's time to ask why we have a relative novice, in football terms heading our academy and recruitment. Surely such a prized asset and position should be given to an experienced head who is winding down his managerial career.

I do not understand the direction of the club at the moment. I appreciate Morgan wants to be self sufficient, but i do not actually think the football knowledge at the club is vast enough - even looking down to the 18s, a vital age group, which Edwards is overseeing. With respect, what's he achieved in the game to warrant such an important role.

Wolves leave me feeling confused at the moment.

I'm sorry Nat but not many coaches have achieved much in the game either, our youth policy of signing 16-19 year olds is a good one as these are the better players that will come through the academy rather than the ones who have been there since school days.

Bout time he talked some sence rather than the same old drivel that he comes out with week after week. Makes me wonder if the players get bored of listening to him. Do hope he's a bit more dynamic and inspiring on training pitch. My guess would be not.

Excellent post. I have always said exactly the same - the people who are influential at Wolves are NOT footballing people, they just have good business acumen. That is not enough. You cannot simply instill a good footballing knowledge.

Yeah, I assumed he meant archetypal but I quite like the image of us being the architectural sleeping giant ie we designed it, wrote the book on it etc

At least KJ has spoken something I can believe at present but just a shame he didn't come out with this weeks, or should I say months, ago when Wolves were distinctly average and the need for better was obvious.

He is part and parcel of the problem though so he needs to not only shake his side up but take a long hard look at himself at the same time.

The basis of a new chant:

"We are av-er-ag-e, say we are average !

and then perhaps later we can substitute "average" with the "dogs $$$$$$$$" although that could be a little time yet.

When we got relegated from the premier the first time, and the entire Wolves crowd approx 25000 waited twenty minutes after the 2-0 defeat to Spurs at the last home game, for the team to remerge, me and me buddy had a big flag with "We think U R the Dogs $$$$$$" on.

Useful bit of information for everyone :embarassed:

Average is an over statement, we have been $$$$ poor for a good portion of the season. We have a shocking goals for column, susceptible to sleep walking in midfield and have no real tactics at home other than crap ticky tacky pedestrion mundane $$$$e that I'm getting really $$$$ed off with. He tinkers too much with the team to get any sort of set pattern and hos substitutions border the bizarre... we have zero chance of the play offs, and thank goodness this shower wont be in the PL next season or we would all be reaching for the valium

  25. I would have preferred him to come out at the start of the season and say that he was going to blood the yougsters and build a team for the long haul, so have some patience.

He could then be coming out now saying that some of the players have out performed expectations but don't think we're ready yet (or some such)

Sometimes I think Morgan's idea of self-sufficiency comes from Kim Il-Sung's Juche Idea. I guarantee that our next head coach will be Rob Edwards, or someone else promoted from within.

It's a good idea in theory, but not so much in the real world.

Bang on. It's the point i have been referring to. I have no problem in putting succession planning in place, in any workplace, it's essential.

However, you're looking at developing kids, not just footballing wise, but mentally, for a huge challenge of becoming a professional player. Can a Rob Edwards do that? I think he's lacking in experience.

Not just him, Kevin Thelwell also. Controversial suggestion, given his experience with Wolves - i'm not looking at him per se, but Glenn Hoddle, or at least someone of that ilk. I dare say someone who is on the downward spiral of their managerial career. A real football man should be the Director of Football and Recruitment. You cannot buy experience, and for every season Kevin and co are learning their trade in this tough market, Wolves are potentially missing out on the PL jackpot.

Typical, this is about the that 18 players on the pitch & KJ getting them playing yet some still use it to have a go at other things & Morgan. We've even got people slagging the U18's coach off & having a go at things that have not happened.

Can anybody argue with this or is that Rob Edwards fault also?

I'm not looking to dig on Rob Edwards. My point is that we've built a brilliant academy, and we've chucked people in there who are still learning their trade. Maybe the wrong thread to do so.

For the record, i agree with Rosehill. I think KJ has made some shocking decisions, but i also believe he's not been helped on the player recruitment side. The squad depth, or at least quality is pathetic. Wolves need to establish why and solve it.

Going back to what i was trying to intimate earlier, do we have the right footballing personnel to attract the right sort of player.

There's no doubt we've tried for players, but we've missed out. Why? Could additional players help KJ be a little bit more flexible in his approach. 4-5-1 / 4-4-1-1 (however you want to play it) has served us well to a degree, but we're desperately struggling for that real quality on the ball. Has KJ been let down by his DoF when trying to recruit? Nobody knows. It's all linked in a round about way.. ish ;)

Who knows, if we'd have picked up Coady & Pritchard for next to nothing instead of Saville & Rowe we may be 4th but likewise if we'd have spent £7m on Foreshore on Delort we may be bottom 4 like Wigan.

The fact is Wigan on paper had a very good squad like Norwich & struggle to get the best out of them, Bournemouth, Ipswich have very average squads yet........

We are a very average team. Mid-table average, which is where we will finish. At the start of the season we knew this- and a couple of extra decent signings could have moved us higher in the league- a few bad injuries, and we could have been battling relegation.

What most of us knew, really.

Good point. As we saw with our double dip relegation team, nothing is guaranteed on paper.

I think every fan, or certainly the large majority expected a mid table finish after last season. Me included.

The frustration is coming after seeing the quality of the league. Looking past Derby, i really do not see anything to fear. I include Bournemouth in that. Sure, a good side, but not one to fear.

After such positivity around the club, for the first time in years after last season, it's just frustrating to see us not battling away in the transfer market to make a play off spot happen.
