  3. I posted my three player January shopping list up on Twitter at the end of November and it was Wood, Maguire and Palacios.

I'm happy with Afobe instead of Wood. I'm much happier with our defensive options now anyway with Iorfa and Hause coming to the fore, so would be over the moon with Palacios. I didn't expect him to sign, just heard that a move to the Championship was an option he'd be open to. A lack of game time is the only concern. He may not be an £8m player any more, but I couldn't think of any other battling Defensive Midfielders that stood out as worth signing.

I remember his dirty foul on Kightly in the Prem-bad challenge.

  6. We'll be paying less than half that if he does sign.

An ageing player on the decline on high wages seems unlike our usual transfer policy.

Still he used to be a very good player and probably could do a job at this level if he's over injuries and is motivated, not what I think we need but if it doesn't Impact us adding where I think we need to he should strengthen the squad.

Only played 38 games in 3 years. Not what I think we'd be looking at.

  9. It's one position where we need an older head. We need another Paul Ince/Alex Rae type of player to call on. Especially if we slip into a bit of a bad run again/or to stop that happening after a tough game/defeat.

He was a very decent player a while back.

Has a nasty streak about him too. Which we do lack...

Could go both ways. But he wont cost us a transfer fee.

His contract is up in the summer and a few months back it was reported Stoke would allow him to leave on a free early.

If this happens is has to be a loan deal. No way we're signing him on a permanent. No way.

Would seem to completely contradict what KJ was saying about no deals being close

It's a 6 month deal with a year and two year option, according to the French article.

Tell you what this would be a good loan option. I think he'd suit the Championship.

Personally don't think it'll happen but...

Really cannot see this at all! As others have said, it completely goes against the grain of our current transfer policy. Unless Kenny has seen that we lack a little experience and bite, but surely Palacios is a little past it now? Although, I did used to really like him as a player about 3 years ago.

Couple of good seasons at Wigan, hit and miss at Spurs followed by struggling to break into a Stoke midfield ahead of Glenn Whelan and Dean Whitehead.

Hopefully Kenny Jackett can breathe some new life into his career as he showed his talent at Wigan.

He may have done Erick. Can't recall if the deal had been done pending a medical when KJ said that

I wouldve thought the media outlets in the UK would be all over this by now if the deal was at such an advanced stage

And Henry, and plenty others. Never listen to a word Jackett says about signing, team news, injuries, etc.

We are definitely missing a player like this in our squad. I'd personally prefer someone younger like Nathaniel Chalobah whose move to Bordeaux has fallen through and he is now being linked with Reading (based on his history with Steve Clarke I presume).

If Palacios can get back to the form he showed at Wigan though, he could be a real coup.

It's been 5-6 years though. Not sure about this one.

  34. I wasn't expecting this to be honest, not too sure what to think to it either.
He was a good player not too long ago but like others has pointed out very little game time I the past three years, how long will it take to get rid of the rustiness?
I think he adds something that we don't have in terms of a nasty side, I also remember him chipping in with a few long range goals.
But if wedo get him who would you want him to replace or will he be best used from the bench in games that we need to hold out for a win ?

I remember a week or two ago Jonzy said we were sniffing around Austin at Leeds, so pretty obvious he was after a solid midfield player who could put his foot in. Austin is now back in the team at Leeds so maybe we've switched our attention to Palacios?

    I'd rather have Austin tbh.

  39. He's a midfielder. Stoke don't have a midfield. At least they didn't when he signed. Totally unsuitable player for the way they played.

I remember having Palacios on my wish list when we were in the PL when he was at Tottenham before he signed for Stoke. It's no coincidence he signed for Tottenham for big money. At the time his stock was high.

Ince and Rae were both considered "past it" when we signed them, but they were big signings for us.

Lack of game time is a concern, but if we can get him in, it's a no-brainer for the Championship. A sixth month deal with a longer-term option is perfect. See how he fares in the Championship. If he does ok and we're still here next season, sign him up long term. If he excels and we go up, sign him up. If he's plagued by injuries and/or flops, let him leave but it was a worthwile exercise.

He's well worth a punt for me. We really need a "ratter" and there are very few available. That's why I picked him out for my wish list in November as soon as I heard he would be open to a Championship move.
