What the hell has Pulis done to Albion?

They were so dull. I actually really thought they would go all the way with the big clubs out, but yesterday a very fragile Villa team made them look second rate.

I know they will stay up - they were always going to do that, but I was really surprised just how uninspiring they were last night.

Albion usually play nice football. Not now.

What has Pulis done to Albion? The same as he did to Stoke and Palace. A system based on winning second phases, that is difficult to break down and play against. He can't do anything else.

I didn't buy the nonsense he came out with when he took the job, about how "keeping West Brom up will be my toughest job." QPR, Leicester, Burnley, Sunderland, Hull and Villa are all worse than they are, finishing above three of them is not an arduous assignment.

He'll have them competitive but can't see them progressing much further than where they are now. The fact he has them playing bland, unattractive football is just a bonus.

I think we all knew this would happen but I feel a bit sorry for Albion. They did (and for many many years) play an attractive brand if football that was also relatively successful. Under Pulis they will continue to be relatively successful but they dull as dishwater and have lost their football identity.

But if the dire football they serve up under Pulis is good enough to keep them in the PL every season will they care?

While I don't condone all the pitch invasions, it certainly gave him a convenient excuse to take the attention off his teams poor performance.

They will eventually. They did at Stoke. Guaranteed 12th-15th every year under Pulis, plus the occasional cup run and foray into Europe. But the football wasn't attractive or entertaining, so they wanted a change. Worked out well as Hughes has done very well since he went there.

He has done what he has to do. Wish we had somebody like him instead of appointing connor.

With the new tv deal effectively making the P L a closed shop you'd have to be really dire to get relegated before the 3 promoted teams every year.

Reans , are you an Albion fan on the side? The amount of threads you create regarding them is concerning... :D

You're right WS10, but the quote in bold above I would give anything for at the moment at Wolves.

Precisely. Why did Stoke get rid of their most successful manager ever? Because watching Pulis teams is like watching paint dry. Boring, boring, boring.

Pulis may bring dull football but it will keep them up and when they eventually tire of the lack of entertainment he will leave a very solid base for the next manager to work from.

Hughes benefitted at Stoke and Pardew is at Palace. He turned Palace from no-hopers to a team expecting to stay up in just 8 months. It was only the appointment of Colin than meant Palace were dragged into the relegation area this year.

Exactly, but the nature of football means that as soon as we reached that point, we'd be demanding the next level.

Already had this conversation with some Albion fans. They will be like a Mick team but well organised and hard to break down and a physical streak throughout the team. Effective to a point but not very pretty. By Xmas I predicted they will all be moaning about "we're West Brazil, we don't play long balls and kick the other team, that's Wolves".

I know he has galvansied them and made them hard to beat, but I actually think they have some pretty useful players who could play a decent passing game. At Palace he had them playing fast attractive football.

And yes of course I would swap places any day to be in the prem, but its going to be interesting see how the "best fans in the world" react to this ongoing style.

JW - you naughty boy - you know who I really support - Manure:vollkommenauf:

His league record since taking over is really good Apart from the loss to Villa in midweek.
Yesterday they were dire, really disappointing i thought. Ideye missed a great chance but that was about it.
    Berahino went missing.

Pulis knows the importance of keeping yourself regular with a high fibre diet.

Apparently a Brown Ideye keeps the doctor away.

Pulis does what's needed even if his sides play dull football.

He organises his teams well and puts a great deal of emphasis on grinding out results.

I would hate to see him manage at Wolves but also recognise that with him in charge your club has a damn good chance of survival.

In the Prem, it's far more important to make yourself difficult to beat than play attractive football and Pulis is excellent at organising a defence.

Prizing attractive football above anything else is absurd and naive, especially when you run the risk of losing out on the biggest financial rewards in premier league history.

I was gutted they appointed Pulis because I knew it would guarantee them safety and also confirmed Peace's decision-making is light years ahead of the outdated duo we have to put up with.

You can either have a Pulis, or a Martinez, but I know which one I would prefer to ensure my team stays in the PL!

Know what you mean but what if the one you didn't want achieved success whilst the one you preferred failed? Tough call but survival means so much these days.
