Keeping Bakary Sako until the end of the season took a lot of bottle and deserves some applause in my opinion. I have seen a lot of people saying we 'lack ambition' throughout this window but keeping Sako is fantastic news IMO.

I have been one of Morgan's biggest critics as well as Moxey's. They could quite easily have cashed in on Sako with only 6 months on his contract. It was what many expected them to do, however they didn't and I for one feel that deserves a bit of praise.

They could have easily sold him for £2.5m/£3m and replaced him with somebody unproven but they've managed to hold onto him and that to me shows ambition even if we didn't sign a couple of "name" players to appease the moaning brigade.

I think our current front 4 (should they all stay fit) have pace, skill and agility in abundance and I look forward to seeing us when Sako, Dicko, Afobe and Van la Parra 'click'.

Sako for me is one of, if not the best players in this division when he's in form. Anyone in this league would kill for a player of his ability and I'm delighted we've got him, even if there's a chance it may only be until May.

I await abuse and put on my tinhat but hopefully I'll be able to bring this up when we make the top 6 come May...

Having seen us play the last few games, we needed something to freshen up that midfield. We got nothing.

Sako was going nowhere, absolutely nowhere. Why? Because he can get a $$$$ing lot more when he leaves in six months time, plus, isn't it common sense that their is a gentleman's agreement in place that he can move on should we not make it up?

I'm usually one not to slag the lack of signings, but this has been an extremely poor show and will more then likely hinder our chances of promotion.

On the fine point you are trying to make, re Sako, your absolutely correct.

However, expect pelters, you probably should have held off with that post mate, signing sensitivity is horrendous on here at the moment! They have even dragged me in! :D

The only solid interest seems to have come from QPR and Sako apparently shot that down.

If he had of gone they'd have almost certainly had to spend it to replace him.

Why would Sako want to leave now ? He will be able to secure maximum salary next summer. If we had sold him for £2 million the buying club would have discounted his wages.

    Yep well done.
We now have one of the weakest squads in the league and two strikers.
    Great stuff!
You are mad if you think this squad will finish top six. No chance!

Does anyone truly believe that it was our decision that Sako stayed? He was in the driving seat and I suspect, if any reasonable bid has been tabled, it's his decision alone that he's still here, after all why would he leave now when he can dictate the terms in the summer.

Exactly, the Bosman is a godsend for players.

If Sako was to leave now a club would pay (all these figures are guides) £3m and offer him £20K a week.

If they sign Sako in the summer they will pay £0 and therefore can offer him £20K a week and £3m to himself personally. Or spread that £3m over his wages, or offer him something like £40K a week.

It made no sense for Sako to leave from HIS perspective now, none at all.

In fact the agent would have been doing all he can to make Sako stay until the summer!!!

The point is more regarding Sako, which I agree with. It would have been very tempting to sell.

Agree op. This place would have imploded if we had sold Sako. Moxley would have used the dosh for more pies and Morgan would have knocked down a nunnery to build a car park.

True, but that doesn't mean it would have made no sense to sell from a Wolves perspective.

Fair play to you, that's your opinion. IMO it has been a very poor transfer window and Morgan has shown his intent, no ambition, seriously ****** with him and abusing fans loyalty

Can we please get rid of this notion that Sako was kept. He wanted to wind the contract down as then he holds all the cards. Credit where its due as he fully deserves to be in such a position, but please, do not give praise to Morgan/Moxey/Thelwell when they've done nothing!

I agree keeping Sako was the most important part of this transfer window.

Still a little disappointed. Not as much as most on here though :).

Really? Sako was the driving force in this matter. He makes the decision. What we have is arguably our best player walking away on a free in the summer.
A lot of bottle you say. It does not take bottle to be non pro active. Show me one bid that the club have turned down in this window? Then at least you may have some credibility for your argument.

And who is this silver bullet who's going to power us up the table in the second half of the season who we should've pushed the boat out for? Who was the last January deadline day signing who worked for that matter? I bet you can name more who were duds than who weren't.

True, but even if we had accepted I doubt Sako would have moved unless to a side near the top.

Derby County would disagree on that.

It suited Sako to stay unless a top ten Prem team came in. Nothing to do with the two Ms showing any bottle etc. Afobe aside, its been a pathetic effort over the last month as it was in the summer. Nothing changes at Wolves - always the club falls short.

Even one decent loan signing would have been something but not even that. Sorry but hopeless absolutely hopeless. I can't wait for all the usual cliches and spin tomorrow. The message this month never mind today is one of complacency as it was at the beginning of the season. If only half the normal crowd turned up next Saturday it would serve the club right. If we manage to get into top six and stay there it will be a miracle. We all know the club are going nowhere this season and probably for a long time if this is the level of ambition.

He can refuse to go? He's our best player so we can't exactly be without him.

On the flipside, why keep him? We haven't brought in enough to sustain a play-off challenge so he's going to leave irregardless, in which case, we should have cashed in.

Sako said he would only leave for a top 10 premier league team, the only ones that enquired were fighting relegation. He was never going to leave. It had nothing to do with Morgan, Moxey or Jackett.

We should have had a poll on Jan 1st to try and determine what would make the fans happy through the window.

And it is something you have to stick with.

I.e., nobody would have been satisfied on Jan 1st if I had said we will be operating without the wages of Johnson, JOH, Foley, Siggy yet only bring in Afobe.
We will also sell Clarke and therefore be operating with two strikers until May.

The thought of Sako staying being a positive would not have been mooted as how unrealistic it was on ALL parts.

This would stop people moaning at others for moaning and also prove that some people just do anything to stick up for Wolves.

What is sitting on our hands doing nothing going to achieve?
They deserve all the stick they get. The squad is weaker than some league one sides! Really poor.
One of the weakest Wolves squads in numbers I have ever known.

It depends what you want/expect I suppose deep down.

I harboured hope for promotion, if others didn't fine.

But we will NOT get promoted now, whatever the table says, and that is why I am ****ed off.

I'd rather keep Sako than sign Tom Ince.

He will do nothing at Derby compared to what Sako will for us and you can bookmark this post for future reference.

It's about quality not quantity for KJ. He has got promotion (in style) in his first season and now has us top half in his second, whilst at the same time watching our finances and ridding the club of all it's deadwood.
I started a thread earlier about us maybe not really going for it this season and I'm believing it more and more now. He's shaped the squad this season and next it will be focused on making it a proper promotion effort with the books a lot more easier to manage and more money available for wages etc.
