So 3 of the best players of the last couple of seasons are leaving and probably a few more.

The 3 have all done well at the club, played in the PL and got sent back down again. It is not necessarily a tempting proposition to wade through the thicket of the Championship for at least a whole season for less pay, while PL clubs are eager to snap them up. Fletcher quickly developed a sore ankle. Jarvis a sore groin. It seems inevitable that not only Kightley and Fletcher will go, but also Jarvis.

Players who want to leave for any reason probably will not be inspired enough to be coachable and adapt to a new system of play.

Solbakken is very methodic. He knows exactly how he wants the team to play and he knows what type of players will fit into the system. Now he has the opportunity to bring some of those players in - hungry, eager to learn, eager to play for Wolves in the Championship.

He has already brought in one of scandinavias most promising young strikers, a Mali international starting 20+ games last season for France's 6th best club, and a regular polish international capped 26 times. Still no big dent in the war chest.

At Copenhagen the entire top 11 were valued at less than Fletcher and Jarvis alone. Still they did well in Europe against both ManU and Barcelona.

If at least a fair bit of the cash coming in from sales is spent on acquisitions, it could get very interesting!

Positive post that I agree with. It's not all looking bad but I think our fans need to be realistic with our expectations for next season and realise that promotion at the first attempt is a big ask.

A positive post on the Mix.

    Times are a changin'

  5. Some good points, but there's no way in a million years Kightly could be considered one of the best players of the past couple of seasons.

He played quite a few games for us last season and was only decent 10% of the time he was on the pitch at most.

  6. It could get very interesting? Well I believe it will foowolf. It just needs a bit of patience and time, we'll get there in the end.

    Agreed.

It will probably not be a rocket ship to the sky, rather a methodical change over time with quite a bit of comings and goings before it starts to stabilize.

By the way - Fulham seem interested in Jarvis, and Hangeland was Solbakkens captain at Copenhagen...hmmm...

I just hope the rumours that linked us with Traore were true, because he is the player I would like us to sign most.

Good post. We've all wanted a dynamic box to box midfielder and in Doumbia we may have found one. That alone makes me feel more enthused than the dull, pragmatic Mick midfields of Henry,Edwards,Hunt etc. Add to that a chance to bring a few youngsters through and it will be certainly be more interesting times than last years car-crash season.

We're taking a huge punt on Solbakken that's for sure. It'll either be a great failure or a huge success in a few years time.

Change is needed and will clearly take time. However, change needs to be managed pretty damn carefully and that's where I start to worry.

Solbakken seems to be bringing in mainly foreign players with decent technical ability to try to mould a team in his style. However, he can only do that if he has the goodwill and backing of the majority of the players and competent support from the likes of Moxey. Otherwise it'll be Cologne Mark II for sure.

The mood music coming out of Molineux is a little worrying right now. Our likely captain has hinted that players are struggling to adapt. Other players have confided that no one knows what is going on with contracts. A popular and well-connected former player (BCI) rightly predicting an exodus. Previously loyal players like Kightly and Berra engineering moves. Our best player by a country mile seeeing that Kightly got exactly what he wanted and trying the same.

I think Moxey has badly mis-managed the contract situation over the last few years (starting with Dave Jones and going thorugh to Michael Kightly) and this has engendered a lot of resentment amongst the players.

I'm all for being optimistic but the reports I've read about the likes of Nouble and Peszko suggest we're going to be consderably weaker when the season kicks off. Sigurdarson and Doumbia will also likely take time to settle. It's going to be a tough first few months and mid-table is the best I'm expecting right now...

I'll reserve my judgment on the transfer scene until the 3rd of September. Hopefully, by then we will have 3-4 new fresh faces in for reasonable fees (atleast £3-4m each, if not a bit more) just to signify to the fans that M & M are the real deal and not just a bunch of clowns in it for the money and saving it for the "stadium redevelopment plans" which quite frankly nobody cares about at this moment of time.

foowolf please dont stop posting during the course of the season we need posters like you. When he first came we were a delighted with the thought of change, lets be honest Solbakken was the first name that didnt induce 5 pages of people vomiting onto their posts so already we were on to a winner. I think we all knew players would leave but the actual realisation of it happening has took me and a fair few others by suprise, given all the fuss with the euros and the olympics drawing to a close now is the time that everyone will focus on the season so subsequently players will try and organise moves for themselves

This season will be a difficult one. For all the signings and the players we kept I dont expect promotion I hope for top 6 finish but to be honest I wont be happy until I walk away from the molineux and witness a team trying more than one tactic to win a game and showing a togetherness that was lacking all through last season. If we have to lose Fletcher, Kightly, Milijas, Berra, Jarvis for that fine none of these players are irreplaceable and we have had worse situations than this. Lets just keep the expectations down, enjoy any success that comes our way and wait patiently to see if Stale can pull this off in a few years

    Up the wolves

Seems like the exodus has already begun. I first got the notion something was not quite in harmony when Fletcher had his sore ankle, Jarvis his sore groin and Kightly playing for the "B-team".

There could be several reasons for unrest. One of course relegation and the drop in salaries. Another the start from scratch-regime where some of the stars might have felt disrespected having to prove themselves all over again against the rest of the squad. Some egos might have been dented. If the idea really was to keep all the best players, this might not have been the wisest approach...but I'm not sure this was ever the idea. I think SS was to build a new squad. His getting stuck with an uncooperative squad at Cologne would have made the idea of building a team from scratch seem preferable.

This could also be the reasons for holding out with the contract - to see which players he is able to work with or not.

If the players who don't like his ideas leave on their own accord - then nothing could be better for everyone - it speeds up the process.

Mid-table? Maybe. They will probably be working on bringing in another 3-4 regular starters, so at the moment everything is in the blue. It will take time to get this up and running and incredibly hard to predict anything at this point.

It might not be a bad thing to start again getting rid of players who don't want to be here. If you look at Birmingham last season, off the top of my head, they lost Foster,Ridgewell,Johnson,Dann, Ferguson, Jerome, Gardner,Bowyer,Phiilips, and probably more yet still made the play-offs despite being in financial meltdown.

We have to hope that Stale can adapt quickly but we are finacially stable so have the financial clout to plug the gaps with good players who the manager wants and will play to his style. The beauty of the Championship is more games and that there are 6 places to play for is that it gives him a bit more time to get things right. Referring again to Blues they started very slowly and still made top 6 once the team settled down. If we are patient and accept things won't happen overnight then there's every reason to hope we can at least do the same.

My thoughts exactly . Every player is replaceable. More so when you've made massive profit on them. Like every other season in the last 25 I've been going it will be the end of October before we judge how this season is going not a couple of pre-season freindlies that I gave going to a long time ago. I'm still looking forward to something new rather than looking back and feeling negative.

    It's a re-build now, but there's a fear it could all go long-term.

I think I will block everyone negative on here and then the dozen or so of us left can have a really good forum to ourselves. :D
