    Losing one nil to Hednesford!
Young lad called Jack Batten playing for us. Highly rated youngster at Bristol City, centre back.
Liverpool have been linked with him.

Oh dear. Now 2-0 to Hednesford, who are not playing many of their first team. HT.
Ortega and Torras both playing as is Keita. I expect more from some of these players, to be fair.

Ha ha. Worrying that our u21's never win games and are losing to a Hednesford reserve side!

The U21s losing to a semi pro team whose players have been at work all day. Again.

I know it isn't all about results but the u21's results this season have been dire.

It's worrying that we have a group of what? 20 players or so in our 'Development' squad that spend a few hours 5 days a week training together yet they can't beat a semi pro team who, whilst our lads were at Compton being told how great they are were getting up at the crack of dawn to go out to do a full day's work whilst the most strenuous thing our boys had to do today was pick what songs to listen to on their iPad whilst on the bus for the arduous 8 or 9 mile journey to Keys Park.

    At least it worries me.

Yeah it is. I know people will say about Iorfa being promoted and the other lads around the senior squad, but there must be something not right. Want every team, senior through to kids to be winning. Have a winning mentality around the place.

Lost 3-0. Abysmal result against Hednesford reserve players. Most of their first team didn't play!

I predict a mass clear out in the summer. Hopefully some of the U18's can step up to the U21's. Ennis, Ronan and Allen seem the most likely.

Torras and Ortega have been big disappointments so far.
Eusebio seems to have lost his way as well.
Yes there have been changes to the u21's but it is still very poor.

Sellars will be shown the door very soon I imagine. I thought he'd be a positive appointment for the U21s but he seems to be full of excuses in his interviews. Those lads' confidence must be at rock bottom.

Rob Edwards has earned a shot at the next level.

No chance, at least the football is better than under Weaver & his teams lost most weeks (apart from 1 season) too.

They still lose almost every week. I know that development is the primary purpose but surely part of that process is to develop confidence and a winning mentality? Sellars doesn't seem to be instilling either.

They want to get over Wednesfield park Friday morning training & let them know that's where they can expect to end up if they don't buck there ideas up. Bunch of pampered kids who like to talk the talk, they haven't made anything of themselves yet.

I agree, but this is practically a new squad this season that has much younger players getting regular games than in previous years. Some of them are still eligible for the under 18's & players like Ronan who's a 1st year academy player have got games. We're fast tracking players more than in the past & playing better football & producing players for the 1st team

We attached far too much to winning at an early age. Improving technique should be all that matters.

This is a very very young team iirc

It's now March. They've been training, full time, since last summer and they've just been turned over by the reserve squad of a semi pro team who train twice a week.

In many respects I agree, our kids do need more nurturing like what happens abroad but there is nothing wrong with winning from a young age. Must be doing no good for their confidence.

At least the 18s are doing well.

When was this Under 21's league set up again ? I'm finding it all abit pointless if I'm honest it's not really any different to the old reserve league, don't see why we don't do what the Germans and some Spanish teams do and just whack a team down in the lowest leagues far from getting anywhere close to the conference north and South maybe ?

The under 18s could probably beat them tbh. We haven't got a striker in the under 21s that scores goals.

I'd keep Ronon in the under 18s for as long as possible. Special talent that needs protecting.

I agree in terms of youth coaching and kids but this is the under 21's, they are not young boys.

I wouldn't worry too much, the new template for the club (with Edwards and sellers coming in ) only started this season. It will take time for the youngsters to start coming through. Well never have a whole team coming through each age group, I think the most they can expect is 4-5 that are good enough to push for a place and we do have some good early 20 year olds at the club. EEL, Evans, Price, Iorfa, hause, even though not all of them have come through our ranks that will always be the case..
In Macallinden, Keita, Eusebio, Flatt, Hunte they are also youngsters that could still develop and turn into 1st team players

This is U21's not U8's. Even if half of them are U18 what would you have? All defeats to get published as 0-1 even if it is 0-15 just to protect their self esteem like little kids?

While winning every game is not the be all and end all I would expect us to be competitive at U21 though producing players is obviously the main aim. Will quality young players hang around at a club where the U21 team is getting turned over every week? They have a lot more freedom to switch clubs these days.

Also assuming we wanted to sign up a trialist, then you have to think are they likely to prefer to go elsewhere if they have other options. If we have a very poor U21 team then their own development could be held back.

The facilities at Compton may be impressive but with the club focusing so heavily on the academy the set up has to be quality from top to bottom and there should be no room for mediocrity. If there is visible signs of progress under Sellers then we should give him a little more time but not too long.

What a complete and utter over reaction and twisting of my post in your first paragraph.

As for the rest you're thinking like I am. I haven't said winning doesn't matter and I would much prefer we did.

But when we have a fair amount of u21s in our first team, and a young u21 team at that too I'm not surprised we lose a lot!

Put Doc Iorfa Evans Price etc in there for a prolonged spell and I bet we do a lot better.

The club are focusing on the academy LONG term, yet some fans judge on SHORT term

    That doesn't add up whatsoever.
