Dendoncker for Saiss given his last performance and spurs result when played there

I think I would agree with that, maybe Dendoncker in for Saiss if he hasn't got over that knock.

I was thinking this exact lineup when I was mulling it over earlier.

Can’t argue with that. The wing backs will need to get through a **** load of work.

Yep like all those players....my only change I'd formation...

I would have Neves and Saiss in midfield and I would move Moutiniho forward to play behind the strikers....

Could be a tough night for Bennett if Sterling does his usual thing of swapping wings now and then. As good a season as he's had we all know that he lacks pace and that could be a problem for him. Still, didn't do too badly at home so fingers crossed.

Yeah I think it’s a coin flip between those 2 given saiss’ consistency and Dendoncker’s recent performances

Agree with that.....we must have three in central midfield and Jimenez and Jota work well off each other. Its 50:50 between Saiss and Dendoncker right now. Traore, Cav, Costa and MGW as the cavalry for the last 20-25 minutes.

No we must have three in central midfield or we will get swamped and it will be all over after 30 minutes. Saiss or Dendoncker operating just in front of the back three.

More importantly we need the mid press. If we play to concede midfield we'll be destroyed.

It seems to be Dendoncker or Saiss. Have Dendoncker’s two performances been better than those of Saiss’? For what it’s worth I don’t think they have, Saiss has a better range of passing and actually gets into the oppositions penalty box more as seen at Fulham. Saiss also gives more balance with his left foot. It’s close but Saiss edges it for me.

Dendoncker over Saiss, all day long. There’s not a lot in it but The Donk is marginally better.

Seems to be the popular choice.

Certainly looks our best team against stronger sides.
Would prefer Vinagre against teams that will be less adventurous and tougher to break down, as seems to create more space for Jota.

Do think we need a more mobile number 10 if this is going to be a regular formation change/tweak, as Moutinho doesn’t have much fun against strong, aggressive, mobile midfields pressing him hard.

Mid press. Trahore on right up against city's left back, where im told they are weaker.

It’s a good shout in an attacking sense, yes they’ve got left back problems, and Traore seems to be coming along now.

But is he going to put enough effective defensive work in? Sane or Sterling vs Doc with little protection is frankly terrifying.

Pretty much picks itself but I'd like to see Dendonker start alongside Neves.

If you look at the YouTube clips of Dendoncker (yes I know I know) - I went back today to watch his 6 min 2017 highlights - he has a fantastic range of passing and actually pings 40-50 yard diagonal passes off either foot - really quite impressive to watch. That’s a side of his game we have yet to see for ourselves but he definitely has it in his locker. I am really looking to seeing more from him.

Regarding the Donks Saiss debate, a bit of healthy rotation is the way ahead for me, I chose Saiss to start as did the OP but don’t mind either way. I am keen to see more of both of them.

    Pat
    Bennet-Coady-Boly
    Doc-Neves-Moutiniho-Otto
    Costa-Jimenez-Jota

Which in reality will mostly be a 541 formation.
It allows the wide players to double up when defending as well as when going forward. I know Costa has not been at his best often this season but he is the best at playing this specific role.

Statistically Saiss has been vastly superior in the last month than Dendoncker.

Dendoncker is less likely to give away silly free kicks just outside the box, mainly because he doesn't really try and tackle.

FWIW, I think Dendoncker will turn out to be a better player than us, he just hasn't yet acclimiatised mentally to the intensity of the game. He can get around the pitch OK (although if you look at his heatmap he doesn't do it as much as Saiss), is quicker than Saiss (but seems confused when and when not to press, this is just him getting used to Nuno's system) and is better at tracking runners than Saiss (although Saiss fouls them, Dendoncker simply runs with them without ever dispossessing them)

Alongside Neves, Dendoncker has to play with Moutinho or Saiss with Gibbs-White. Mixing them up doesn't seem to work.
