WOLVES: Ikeme, Collins, Craddock, Shackell, Friend, Gobern, Potter, Salmon, Jarvis, Gray, Vokes.
SUBS: Rosa, Williams, Batth, Malone, Hemmings.

Hopefully Jarvis will get a full 90 minutes today to really test his fitness. Good to see that Gobern is a playing more and more reserve fixtures and coming through unscathed as well.

Very strong team apart from Mickey Gray roaming around in the free role behind Vokes! Usually players go further back (positionally) with age but he's going further forward every season!

    Hope everyone comes through unscathed.

What has Rosa done to upset McCarthy. He can't even make the first XI in the reserves:D

I don't think that side will be a million miles away from the FA Cup team against Blues, except maybe Jarvis being left out and being repaced by another youngster, possibly Hemmings.

Not at all. He will play Keogh, Edwards et al in the FA Cup to allow them to stake a claim. We definitely won't have that bench and there definitely won't be any 17-18 year olds in there!

That side would probably do a half decent job in the championship...bottom half?

Ah thats a crazy call.....Ok we are top and priority is the Prem but we aint gonna field a weakened team for the FA Cup surely?

Not at all. I don't give a stuff about the FA Cup this year. Why risk injuries, cautions, suspensions or a fixture backlog. Nothing matters other than promotion this season. We are playing one of our biggest rivals for promotion so why give them an opportunity to rough us up a bit,or risk any of the above. Interestingly the 4th Round is 3 days before we play Reading. We don't need it

YOU don't give a stuff so Mick will play a reserve side. What the hell kind of influence do you have over McCarthy?! Be realistic, we won't play our strongest 11, but we will definitely play those players who are on the fringes week in and out, those who make the subs bench etc. And we will have some regulars playing I'm sure, even if it's just from the subs bench. If you think we'll play reserve teamers and youngsters in the FA Cup because you don't give a stuff about it then you're in for a major disappointment!

I forgot you are that clever you wouldn't need to look at the side that was advocated. You say we will pick fringe players. Just have a look at the side above and you will see it is littered with them. Ha Ha Ha !:confused:

Not a bad reserve team that. Just shows how we have got strength in depth, at last. And don't forget the lads out on loan.

Its nice to go into January not needing to panic buy. We can just strengthen if the right players are available at a sensible price but if we sign nobody, I will not be moaning.

I'm talking about players that are playing first team football already but not consistently. I bet the following will play: Ward, Edwards, Jones, Hill, Collins (in your team too I know), Keogh, Foley (I know he's consistently playing in the 1st XI). That's 6 players who played some part at the weekend. We will have SEB, Kites and Iwelumo on the bench. Craddock, Gobern, Potter and Salmon are unlikely to get anywhere near the side IMO.

Agreed but the league cup and fa cup are different stories. I understand its important to protect players and concentrate on the main priority but my point is that regulars will or should def play a major part of the team along with the lads putting in great effort and currently not starting on a tough team to make.

If we go out of our way to wrap our players in cotton wool karma will screw us...like going into a tackle afraid of getting hurt will tend to lead to something broken!!!

Will Davies be back in time for the FACup 3rd Round? Might be useful to start him with Henry to see what sort of a partnership could be possible. I'd also like to see starts for Shackell, Vokes, Friend and possibly Craddock.

Davies was allowed to play in the Cup, to give him an extra game or 2 during his loan.

We will play our first team, due to the fact that after the Blackpool game (29th Dec) our next League game is Preston at home (Jan 10th)

Well done 7 days between the 3rd and 10th. If we rest the players they go longer without a game though don't they. Hence why I think we won't play a reserve team for the Blues game and keep the main players playing.

Shouldn't you dropping a clanger somewhere? (you're over due one)

wedding duties prevented that from happening last night. How did we do?

  28. I see where you're coming from.
But because *you* don't give a stuff, doesn't mean thats what will *actually* happen.
I can't imagine Mick will want to get mauled by one of our main rivals (in general and for promotion), whether its the league or the cup. If we put out a reserve team and lost 5-0 i hardly think that'd help the atmosphere around Molineux, do you? And then what happens if we miss out on promotion for whatever reason and Mick has fielded reserve sides for the cup competitions? He gets the sack.
I believe he'll field a strong team but with a few subtle changes i.e. the ones who need a rest at the time.

Ikeme, Collins, Hill, Friend, Vokes, Jarvis, Edwards or Jones, Keogh or Iwelumo will all start in the cup as they will need games under their belt ready for when they are needed in the first team.

We wont play our reserves but a number of fringe players will start.

  30. I don't give a stuff either! and since we don't try in the League Cup ( I've given up going to the annual defeat by a lower league club ) why would we try in the FA Cup?

Seasons when we were bumbling along in mid-table it would have been nice to have a cup run, but this year there is too much at stake to risk injuries and suspensions.

I've got a bluenose mate and he wants us to win at St.Andrews........in the cup, not the league, of course.

It happened against Watford beat them in the cup and then lost in the league. Everybody knows it should have been the other way round

It's going to be some game, with both sides trying to lose. You can just see Blues winning (or losing even) by one (own) goal with 10 minutes to go & bringing on Kevin Phillips...in place of Maik Taylor! While Mick gets Collins to warm up in case we need to concede a last minute penalty.

I will put money on at least 9 out of the 11 plays that start the preceeding league game, being in the starting 11 against Birmingham (Injuries aside). McCarthy does not do weakened teams in the FA Cup.

Most teams want a decent cup run for the extra cash it generates - however we really want to keep our focus on the league....my bet is both managers will be resting key players and we'll see perhaps 5 or 6 changes from the previous week.

There will be 5 or 6 changes. I'd go for Vokes and Keogh up front. Gobern, Gray, Edwards, Collins, and Shackle getting a game, and who ever is the reserve keeper. The most important game of the season follows Bimringham and we need to have a fresh, injury free team with players at 100% to have a chance of upsetting Reading.

While i couldn't care less about a cup run, the psychological effect of us beating them might be worth a lot in the following league games[FONT=&quot]

Isn't there an FA rule saying you have to play your strongest side in the fa cup?
