    Watford top 39 points
    Watford finished 7th 70 points.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Looking at the above

Watford had an ok start last season not a great start an ok start.

Only Fulham have had a better start than we have had.
Only once has a team got more than 40 points and failed to go up. That was us with 41 points, in the season Albion had a run of form that if extrapolated over the entire season would have resulted in them running away with it.
Even then if we had accumulated the same number of points that we have this season we would have been promoted.

Any team with greater than 41 points after 20 games have been promoted.

There have been lots of people saying remember this team they had a great start and faded failed to get promoted $$$$$$$$, no team has had a great start (20 games) and failed to get promoted.

Only once since 1990 has any team got greater points than us after 20 games and that was Fulham, who had exactly 1 more point than us.

Relax, boys enjoy the season we are going up.

Just can't get wrapped up in what others have done over the last 8 seasons. We should go up from this position but a run like we had last December/January would put us behind Reading and Blues and playing catch up.

Only if Reading and Blues put together a hell of a run. For Reading to overhaul us before Feb, would take Relegation form for us, and title form from them.

4 $$$$ games from us, 4 great games for them is the simple way of looking at it.

It looks really good at the moment...............but this is Wolves, the nearly but pretty much all the time balls it up men, I'm not getting carried away thanks.

Couple of injuries, lose tomorrow while rivals win, lose next week while rivals win? and we have a totally different but typical for Wolves complexion on things.

You said it yourself, there's only been one team with more than 40 points that failed to get promotion...............................

Please no more of these scenarios and tables from yesteryear.

All that matters is the here and now, the fact we're 6 points clear and if we continue to play like this and amass points the way we have done so far we'll be promoted and as Champions.

    End of.

"yesterday dont mean $$$$" - Pantera.

We could win all but 5 of our remaining games and not get promoted.

Lose next 2 whilst Blues and Reading win we are still top......

For Reading to over take us by February would mean they won 4 games more than us out of 11.

Lets say 4 defeats and 5 wins and 1 draw in 11 games.
Reading would need 9 Wins in 11 games, to go ahead of us on GD

Blues would need 8 wins in 11 games given GD.

As I said Title form for Reading.

And looking at Blues fixtures title form for them.

Whilst we would have a run of results that would be lower mid table form.

Yes we were the only team over 40 to not get promoted...... However there were only 8 points separating top from 8th.

This time there is 10 points separating first from third.

We are the second highest points scorers after 20 games since 1999.......... no one has ever had this sort of points and failed to go up automatically.

Thought we were on 47 pts? If so both Fulham and Portsmouth have had better starts and Reading an equally good one (can't be bothered to check their GD). Still, all of them went on to walk the league so I hear what you're saying. Have done the same research myself - wouldn't be surprised if a few of have!

The thing is, this is Wolves we're talking about so that's where your very last line gets me nervous. How can we relax til we're 10pts clear with 3 games to go? The only team with 41pts at this stage not to go up was, um, Wolves - thanks for the memories. All we need is a bad run of 4 games or more (we've had one already this season - lost 3 out of 4) and for our nearest challengers to have a decent run at the same time and we're 3rd.

I think the problem for most of us this year is that there are 3 genuine contenders. If Reading or Blues were to slip away then maybe we could relax and enjoy it. Let's see where we all are when the Jan transfer window closes!

We have a really good chance the next 6 games are very winable

    QPR (A) - draw
    Derby (H) - win
    Barnsley (H) - win
    Donacaster (A) - win
    Shefeild Unted (H) - loose
    Blackpool (A) - win

13 points plus the 47 we have would give us 60 points

I think that would mean you would need 30 points from the last 20 games to give you 90 points.

If we are on 60 points or above by the 1st of Jan then we should do it.

Agree - its like no-one who is bottom of the prem at Xmas escapes relegation....

    ... except West Brom.

So, we cannot rely on what has always happened in the past. I agree, until mathematically impossibe to $$$$ up, I cant relax

Don't look backwards other than to learn from your mistakes and only look forwards to the next game. Beyond that we'll have to wait until the end of the season.

Enjoy what we have today and cheer the boys to victory tomorrow!

If Reading won every single remaining game and we lost 5 of our remaining games then they would overtake us.

Past stats like this mean nothing - the shape of the League is more important. We need stats that show how many points the 3rd placed team has had at this stage of the season and how many they accumulated over the remainder.

My view is this - Reading lose every 4th or 5th game after outplaying the opposition and scoring goals for fun because they are Prem players unused to a 46 game season who get too cocky after they have won several on the trot. They ease up ever so slightly and lose. They will continue like that until there are only 10 or 15 games to go, when they can see the finishing line, at which point they will have the motivation to win virtually ALL their remaining games. Therefore, we need to think about how far ahead we need to be OR can be after 31 to 36 games. If we slip to just 6 or so ahead of them ahead of a long run-in, they will catch us. Brum will be more like Reading than us for the same reason but don't seem to have the flair to win every game they need to, so I would be more comfortable if we were 6 points ahead of them at the same stage.

Or it could be that the Championship is very competitive, and on their day any team can beat any team.

    Reading - Southampton
    Blues - Blackpool
    Wolves - Norwich

Every team will lose some this season.

Thats why I believe that we will finish top.
Points in the bag are what you need, it's ok saying Reading will have a run, and Blues will have a run, because they are premiership players and team.

The fact is both were relegated because they were not good enough over 42 games last season, both have showed a distinct lack of consistency this season.

Yet everyone keeps saying they will not lose many between now and the end of the season.

So over the next 26 games, they need to do something they have not done over the previous 20 games.

Whilst we need to do something we have not done since MM took over as manager.

Mick’s PPG at Wolves so far is 1.723. Providing we continue to average what we have for the last 2 ½ seasons under him, we’ll accumulate a further 44 points, giving us 91 points, and promotion. Other than ‘it’s Wolves’, I see no reason whatsoever to think we won’t get promoted.

The work and achievements of Mick and the team so far mean that they have laid the groundwork for promotion being ours to win. We still have to earn it though, its not yet ours, or even ours for the taking.
What would we be thinking in the place of Birmingham or Reading I wonder? Somehow I doubt if many people would be happy if promotion or the league title were being written off. If the positions were reversed we'd still be thinking we had a chance to catch the leaders.

The fans of every team spending their first season in The Championship after relegation believe they have a divine right to promotion (including most Wolves fans when it happened to us), so arrogance is to be expected. If, as and when we win the league, that'll be the time to rub your colleagues nose in it...quite literally, get some dog $$$$ and rub his nose in it.

Are threads on here, saying we already have it won, any better?

  27. wamp_wolf

    wamp_wolf Guest

The arrogance levels of some on here are creeping ever higher as well. Its okay to be confident and happy with our start - but it is only a start. Yes, we should go an and get promoted but $$$$ happens and its certainly not guaranteed.

This feeling of guaranteed promotion and discussions about which positions we will need to buy players for is stupid and dangerous. The last thing we need is expectation levels to go through the roof resulting in the crowd getting agitated and annoyed when if we're struggling to break down a team at home.

We all want promotion more than anything in the world, and if it does happen then that moment will be fantastic. And it will be fantastic throughout the whole summer. But lets just wait until then and try not to get carried away with ourselves!

At least! 2nd March 2002 we beat Gillingham 2-0 as the South Bank joyfully sang " See us on the tele, you'll only see us on the tele...." oh how the other three sides of the ground laughed and applauded this little ditty.... we then won 1 of the remaining 9 games.

I don't like arrogance and acting as if the league's already won when we're not even halfway through the season - by the same token, I hate the "Macbeth"-like fear of even mentioning promotion or the horrible cliche of "let's just look at the next game". It's like saying you won't make any plans for Sunday lunch in case you get run over tomorrow afternoon.

The fact is that we have put ourselves in an excellent position and merely reasonable form should see us promoted from here. Long may it continue.

I understand what you are saying, however If anyothet team had made the start we had, we would be thinking the title was gone, and we would be chasing Blues in second.

Of course we would be hoping the top team slipped up, but I certainly would be thinking top spot was out of our reach

Agree with all you Deutsch. I'll still keep the Champagne on ice until promotion is definitely achieved.

Enjoying the position we're in though and the performances put in by the players.

And we still await Matt Jarvis coming back into the team.

  38. We will go up this season and here's why.

HwK stopped watching Wolves when he started work in 1980. So he can't be blamed for 2 receiverships, but he did miss the promotion campaigns of 1988 and 1989.

He was a STH from 89/90 to 07/08 so witnessed all the heartache. He decided to jack it in this season and ... hey presto!

    Still not convinced?

The only time he's watched Wolves this season was the from the start of the second half on the telly vs Blues. As Jerome scored, he was more convinced than ever and switched off.

You all have my word he will not watch Wolves again this season. But, should he watch when we're back in the PL? ;)

I will not be celebrating until we have won promotion.
However I am now expecting automatic promotion.

It is not arrogance, I am fully confident that our team will win promotion.

My post was not aimed at people saying we have won it, just that we will win it.

I am trying to instal confidence in people.

I constantly see people saying we will lose, and we will fade.

I don't believe we will fade. I expected us to fade after the Norwich, game, however we showed a great deal of resillience and inner strength, that convinecd me Promotion is 99% certain.

I am thoroughly enjoying the season, I am enjoying all of the games I have seen, both live and on TV.

I am enjoying seeing other fans saying we will bottle it again.

We will lose a game and quite soon I would think.... Certainly sometimes in our next 7 games.

If we do lose in our next 7 games, It will possibly be a shock game such as Blackpool away.

glasgow I don't do confidence (too close to arrogance) so like I said I'll not get too carried away until promotion is assured. Also like I said I am enjoying this season for all it's brought thus far and I am getting excited by what may happen.

Like most will know I tend to attend as many games as possible home and away so if nothing else seeing the team I support achieve promotion will make it all worthwhile.
