Just reading through Dave Edwards' latest article in the Express & Star and it mentions how Matthew Kilgallon believes he doesn't fear Wolves because they (Sheffield United) played the better football that night:
Also, in the Doncaster match program their manager mentioned how Wolves aren't a team who strike fear on paper as we have no 'big names' like that of Birmingham and Reading.
Do you think the majority of the Championship still under-estimate us despite us being 7 points clear of 2nd, 9 points clear of 3rd and 19 points clear of 7th place?

I hope so and lets keep it that way.... It keeps the poachers away from our players, stops our players getting too big for their boots and hopefully will motivate them enough to get us over the line....

  3. Let them talk we'll just keep on ploughing through the games and racking up the points. I respect Steve Coppell's opinions more than Kilgallons and Wolv3nsam's signature says it all.

Which is quite true except for Kightly maybe..and O'Driscoll would love to see us up.
When Reading went up it took until Xmas before anybody really learned the player's names...then they accelerated away and mullered everyone. Even this season Coppell's got a team which on paper looks like nothing special, compared to Birmingham's £20k a week big names.
It's about building the best team than having the so-called best players. We should $$$$in know that well enough by now! ;)

  8. We are top of the league and won 18 out of 24. I cannot believe any manager is going to under estimate us. A decent manager wont under estimate any other team in this league, let alone one that has been top virtually all season! Whether they think we have big name players or not is up to them.

Excellent - I hope we remain under the radar.

We've had big names time and time again and all its gotten us is one season the the top flight in over 20 years.

Ince, Irwin, Rae, Blake, Kennedy - all of them could be regarded as 'name' players at this level, it got us promotion at the 2nd time of asking (well Ince and Irwin's first season) after a 5th place finish.

Go further back and you have the likes of Froggatt and Daley. If this is what happens when you lack big name players who 'strike fear' into opposing teams then I think we can safely say that we don't need them!

Yesterday, my bluescum colleague was comparing their team to Real Madrid's galacticos! He then went on to say wolves had a better 'team' than blues - I made him repeat this a number of times. :D

I think this to be a lie. A big lie. Made up by a lying liar.

I don't think the same group of footballers who (figuratively) hammered Chris Iwelumo for missing a sitter are sensitive souls likely to feel 'stung' by the comments of a player who's club is a full 19 points behind them in the league.

That would be like Ronaldo feeling 'stung' because Roman Bednar reckons he's a better player.

He hasn't been the same player since Bednar made the claim tough...........

He's psyched him out. Next thing we know, Ronaldo tumbles all the way down to play for Sheffield Utd as Bednar lifts the European Cup as Barcelona captain. That's what 'stinging' words do to a player's confidence.

  14. They should take a leaf out of Big Mick's book. He always says that the opposition are a good team / hard to beat...........even if he doesn't always mean it!

These statements remind me of the stupid sort of things Mark McGhee used to say when he was managing us. I hope we stay under the radar and just keep on picking up points to be honest. It is strange though that we have full internationals 4 England u21's (soon to 5 with Jarvis if he can stay fit). Perhaps its the lack of foreigners and "big money buys" in the team that makes people think that we are nothing special. Sheffield will point to the fact that they have Beattie, Blues that they have Carsley, Quedrue and Mcfadden yet we have few household names. personally Wolves have been the way of high waged ex-premiership journeymen ...I am much happier with our clubs diretion for both the short and long term.

The answer is yes. Karren Brady said "I know we will make up Wolves’ six-point lead" after drawing 1-1. Then you add that to all the rubbish spouted by Cameron Jerome, sometimes you wonder why clubs just don't keep their opinions to themsleves.

On the other hand, Reading have been more respectful (both Coppell and his players) and are just getting on with the job in hand.

We were always bound to cop a fair bit of negative press from the other Coca-Cola Championship Clubs because, firstly - the other two leading promotion candidates are viewed as proven Premiership teams who had a poor season and secondly - we on the other hand come with an unenviable track record of under-achieving and/or bottling it!

Fine - we know that this campaign the team is made of far sterner stuff.
We are playing positive attacking football which to be fair is radically different to the draw-bores we were last season, plus we have a depth of squad that whilst not perfect is the best I can remember here for many years.

All we have to do is complete the second half of the season in the same manner and style that we have during the first and it will ram the message home of our footballing ability right up their collective rear entrances!
