For me, it's pretty obvious. Central Midfielder (in addition to bringing Davies back from Leicester) and a winger.

Question is, which side? Our only real cover for Kightly is Jarvis, and that leaves us rather short on the left.

As Gobern's looking like he'll never, ever be fit, if I had to choose, I'd probably get cover on the right wing.

an all-round goalie wouldn't go amiss either.

Jarvis and Kightly can both play switch-sided at least to a degree, so to my way of thinking it's just matters that we get in someone who can play well on one or the other.

As for the goalie issue, I think both Wayne and Ikeme are more than capable at this level, and probably beyond as well. That's not our problem right now, even though there are some areas in which they could improve. I'm looking at the areas of our squad that are weaker than they should be. We need to be able to control the center of the pitch, and we need to have cover on the wings. Everything else is secondary at the moment.

goal-keeping errors have cost us at least 4 points over xmas - that could end up being the difference between promotion and play-off misery.

  6. Agree on winger cover, Davies return and another Central Midfielder

Also think Vokes should be first striker on before Keogh if Iwelumo keeps misfiring.

Big Chrus doesn't improve in next 2 games, Vokes to start with SEB

If you seriously think we could get a beter keeper than either Hennessey or Ikeme you must be living on another planet.

Hennessey was at fault for at least one goal last night it's true, but he has saved us points many times this season. Jarvis was equally culpable last night if you're looking for someone to blame for us losing points, I don't see you trying to replace him.

Exactly. Goalkeepers are always the ones that get the finger pointed at when it comes to a mistake. How many opportunites did Jarvis miss last night?I recgonise that Hennessey's mistake cost us but he saved us from a drubbing on Friday and has done so many times in the past. I wish people would get off his back. He's a fine keeper, he just needs to improve his decision making, hes only young!

Jason Koumas cannot get a game at Wigan. I would offer them a decent price for him because i'm convinced with him in the midfield we would walk the rest of the season. Our team is set up ideally for a player of his style.

    One winger - Jay Tabb
    Recall - Mark Davies
    Extend - Michael Mancienne
If we're being greedy - Andrew Surman

I have been thinking exactly the same thing. A bit of class to ensure we win the title.

  13. Mancienne till the end of the season
A winger on loan - Sinclair, Edwards whoever
Koumas is a good shout too

Etherington at West Ham is rumoured to be surplus to requirements, a left winger which is what we need as Jarvis and Kightly can play left side. Pratley from Swansea (if we could get him) and I was quite impressed with Gow last night - wasn't McCarthy after him a couple of seasons ago.

The last couple of games we haven't run midfield because we have hoofed it over them. When we passed the ball last night I thought we had some control and there is little point buying a midfielder if we continue to kick the ball over the top of them.

Winger, central midfielder and a striker as we haven't really got cover for SEB.

as cover for the wings id look no further than blackpools reid last night, on loan from qpr i think, tricky lad, as backup he'd do and would be cheap. cant see koumas coming here, i think mancienne will depend on whether chelsea buy anyone, question is can we buy with promotion in mind? will a premier player risk good wages for the chance to not get promotion, we are in the best position and this could sway them, we cannot make wholesale changes, lets get the back four settled, kightly and jarvis both fit and firing and i think we'll be ok.

There looks to be some bargains about this January

Routledge is rumoured to be going to qpr for 250k
Sky quoted Gow at 200K last night

Tabb wouldn't be a surprise out of contract at the end of the season and we seem to be spending a bit of time watching Cov lately

Koumas is a very good shout would also improve our free kicks.

On Wigan I think I also saw a certain ex-player of ours saying he wanted to go out on loan (though it might have been the ex baggie as it was late and the ssn bar moved quickly). What's the chances of either turning up at the poorthorns

Ben Watson? Around the £1.5m mark, worried that Moyes was at the game last night, possible bid for SEB in Jan?

No way to koumas. Last thing we need is a lightweight luxury player in the middle of midfield. Kavanagh or gravesen just until the end of the season would do nicely, and MD back from the foxes. Sinclair or etherington would be ideal for cover on the wings. If we get those players on loan then we wouldnt be buying players just to get us out of the division in january. Then we can spend the cash after we get promotion this season.

Mathew Etherington is defo a player I'd like to see come in, very skilful fast & direct. He would end up as more than "cover" I'd've thought though, he's too good for warming our bench, surely.

Graham Kavanagh could be a good bet to drive us forwards & a he'd be a useful older head too, but how old is he now? Has he still got the legs for that?

I honestly think Mark Davies could prove to be what we need, if we get him back & if he can stay fit. He's every bit as good as anyone we're likely to get on the open market IMO.

  24. Nobody will leave in Jan unless Mick wants them to or a club offers (very) stupid money. We are in a very stong position in this window.

Everton are skint and I doubt we'd sell for less than £5m - Moyes won't risk that on an unproven striker when he could probably pick Owen up for that much.

Just browsing through BBC 606 and the Southampton fans seem to think Surman is on his way to either us or Stoke, he didn't play against Reading supposedly due to 'injury' but they believe he didn't feature as Lowe has already sold him on along with Lallana who also didn't play.

Really can't see SEB going anywhere January DM watching him or not - I watch Cheryl Cole - IMHO there is about the same chance!

can't see us signing a central midfielder, not one of any quality cos he'll want to play, bring davies back and that'll be it. cover on the wings will come in and another striker hopefuly.

Excellent, lets replace Hennesey with an average championship stopper.

I am sure you will be surprised by the number of points Hennessey saves us when he's replaced by an 'all-round goalie'

koumas is very lightweight but he will create chances and get goals.
marvin elliott would be a superb piece of busines if we could get him.
winger wise only edwards and routledge spring to mind who could be tempted to come here. £3m for the 2 of them?
