I was a critic of McDonald start of the season, didn't think he could cut it at this level, but I am happy to be proved wrong :)

good attacking play/mentality, we should look to play like this all the time with either formation, a bit more pressing at times and it would be perfect!

special message to the incredible sulk, take a look at how henry played when he came on for you or how afobe or dicko arent scared to go for a 70/30 in your favour ball.

Well impressed with Dicko though for the build up to the penalty.

If I was running in on a three way challenge for the ball in my prime (there's an argument I had one) I'd have kicked that ball over the stand!

Really enjoyed tonight and had Sako for first goal scorer with my free £5 sky bet :)

Really happy with tonight, much like Fulham; we are starting to take average teams to the sword at home! Impressed with the whole side tonight. Subs made at the right time too, la parra's workrate was questionable at times tonight though. And was rightly subbed.

Difficult game against limited but physical opponents and a ref who let too many things go.

Pig - no probs tonight, Batth cleared one he shouted for which wasn't ideal - one outstanding save 7.5
Doherty - defensively ok, great going forward. Combined well with Henry and set Afobe up 8
    Golbourne - rusty. 6
Batth - tough game tonight against strong and physical opponents, did ok 7
Stears - two outstanding passes first half and his usual self through game. Our standout player this season and a huge issue if he's crocked - 8
KMac - outstanding first 45, truly 10/10. Quieter second half and was roughly treated by Sheff Wed. He's the one who makes us tick -9
Price - really tidy and tenacious. Passed effectively and with purpose 7.5
RVLP - ironically produced three decent crosses first half and looked a threat. Didn't like him holding out of challenges and his first touch wasn't there tonight. If he was sulking like it appeared he needs to grow the $$$$ up 6
Afobe - he's quality. Great finish and hold up play. 8
Sako - love it when he runs from deep. Worked hard for no real reward.
    Good pen 7
Dicko - outrageous run for the penalty, and went down easily!! Could have scored another but for a great save and worked hard 7.5

    Henry / excellent. What a goal 8
    Eel slotted in well 7
    Edwards not on long

Fair play to 1200 traveling fans.

Immensely worried about Stears and KMac.

  10. Two average teams doing average things with the odd bit of spark. Thought Sheff Wed would give us a better game but in the end it was quite an easy win. Their guy had a couple free headers but they didn't really offer much. We're doing the rights things as far as getting an early ball into those channels and we look much better 4-4-2. Afobe again lethal in the penalty area but the overall feeling is a missed opportunity last Saturday. Golbourne looked off it a little and I hope Stearman is okay. We'll see what they are made of Friday.

Not the best performance tonight but very good 3 points. Thought we could have won by 5 or 6 if we'd kept the foot on the gas for all 90 mins. Clinical finishing the difference tonight. Stand out performers for me was afobe and dicko.

A mention about golbourne. He seems a completely different player since he's come back. He needs his confidence back and quick, or hause will be back in ahead of him.

    Roll on Friday!!

I thought we were bang average for long periods and thankfully Henry added a bit of impetus to kill the game off, had it stayed 1-0 for a bit longer I wonder if Wednesday would've equalised. Play like that against Derby and it'll be another 5-0

NWW verdict pretty much spot on.

Good to see you noticed RVLP positive input. Not sure if he was sulking , injured, or just severely lacking confidence after te crowd got on his back minutes before. (Iirc poor touch when kuzsack kicked it to the clouds and back and RVLP had a man not far behind him)

Good to see him track back tonight on occasions. Still think he is so important to our fast counter as he is always an option.

I don't think there has been a more clear cut, obvious substitution made this season. Woeful work rate from La Parra.

Before you all jump on the anti RVLP bandwagon, I don't remember many of you criticising dicko when he was dropped and came on as sub and sulked most of his time on there.

Obvious substitution tonight, but he needs to keep his head up. If there is a confident player example, he is it.

Only because we lost the toss.

Generally very pleasing. Thought we rocked a bit after half time but Afobe's goal broke them. I have defended La Parra but his windy defensive play was shocking and Henry should play on Friday. Given the depth of the squad I'm sure he will get another chance soon enough.

Horrible feeling that we might not see Stears again this season. I do rate EEL though.

Tonight was a relatively stress free night and some glimpses of some very good counter-attacking football on show. I like the way the team is progressing, Afobe seems to have everything, MacDonald is definitely back and playing some lovely through balls. Still think we will come up short in the playoff run-in but I do feel optimistic for the future.

Kuzszac - 6.5. - one great save, a couple of run of the mill ones, the odd flap, watched him a fair bit now and, I prefer Ikeme.

Golbourne - 6.5 - steady game, nothing spectacular and nothing wrong defensively, meshes very well with Sako.

Baath - 8.5 - didn't put a foot wrong tonight. Won everything in the air, distribution was decent and probably aided by the fact that their number 9 was slightly less mobile than a Diplodocus.

Stearman - 8 - solid game again. Injury forced him off, hope it's nothing too serious.

Doherty - 6.5 - very steady defensively, didn't really do too much in the attacking half but I do like him.

Sako - 7.5 - played well I thought although ocassionaly wasteful when passing. I love to see him run with the ball...absolute joy to watch. Banged in the penalty with aplomb although I could only watch through my hands.

McDonald - 9 - loved his performance tonight. Cruised around the pitch despite being on the end of some rough stuff, got forward further than I can remember in ages and should really have scored. A few great through balls tonight also.

Price - 8 - enjoyed his performance a lot.the goal seems to have fired his confidence and he also got forward and could have scored....and the defensive side of his play was still there.

Van La Parra - 4.5 - one decent cross. Defensively a total liability, bottled challenges, lost posession in very dangerous areas. I hope he was injured when he wandered off straight down the tunnel, he had no right to be angry at being subbed.

Dicko 7.5 - works so hard, won a penalty with a great run...we look better with him in the team.

Afobe - 9 this kid has everything. Holds the ball up, dribbles with it, heads well, links play, scores a great volley..best player I have seen at Wolves in some time.

Henry - 8 - great assist for Afobe, stupendous goal, great work rate. Not the quickest but VLP needs to pay attention.

EBanks - 6.5 not on long but was solid at a time when the game was effectively over as a contest.

Edwards - not on long enough to mark but put himself about.

KJ - got it right tonight, more of the same v Derby please.

Ref, gave us a soft penalty, other than that not a lot really came our way and he did little to protect Afobe and McDonald who were on the end of a kicking.

regarding vlp sulking it is reference to his refusal to shake anyone hand when coming off the pitch especially henry. he needs to realise he isnt playing in an exhibition game, he has the attributes to be a decent winger.

I really enjoyed our performance today for the most part. Thought we showed great control in the middle, glimpses of some great creativity going forward, and some very well taken goals. There was the occasional lapse in discipline and nous, but against a well organised but very limited side, it didn't cost us too much.

Kenny made two changes from Saturday's draw at Brighton, with Golbourne and Dicko coming in for Hause and Henry. It also meant a slight adjustment, as we now had two out and out strikers. From the outset it appeared that Dicko would be the most advanced, with Afobe dropping deeper.

It was a lively, open start, with both teams having chances. Wednesday's greatest strength was Nuhiu, a big bulk of a centre forward who dominated the air. Fortunately for us, no one in a blue and white shirt gave him any support, so a lot of his flick ons and knock downs came to nothing. At the other end, Afobe linked play superbly at times, and after he had flashed a volley high and wide from Sako's low corner, McDonald was sent through on goal but was denied smartly by Westwood. But it wasn't long before we found the net. Some superb anticipation from Dicko allowed him to snaffle the ball on half way. Having been pulled back at least twice, he was eventually felled by a trailing leg inside the box. I'd suggest there was minimal contact, but contact nonetheless, and the referee pointed to the spot. Sako stepped up confidently and plonked the ball into the corner, with Westwod diving the wrong way.

It was still 1-0 when the sides went in for half time, though both will feel they could have scored. Westwood denied Dicko with a flying save, whilst Kuszczak was similarly stretched to deny Maghoma, reaching up to push the goalbound header out for a corner. Both Sako and Price also saw efforts saved by the impressive visiting keeper, and 1-0 it remained.

It's an often trotted out expression that goals change games, and we saw that second half tonight. We were pretty poor for the first 10 minutes of the half, we were lackadasical in our closing down, we gave the ball away cheaply, and although we weren't right under the pump, we were certainly going through a sticky patch. But then we broke forward, Doherty got down the right and delivered a fine cross into the middle. Afobe was waiting, and dispatched a superb first time volley into the net via the post. It seemed to competely stuff Wednesday, who had been growing into the game. A third goal arrived 10 minutes later, courtesy of James Henry's personal goal of the season competition. Having made a postive impact from the bench, he again picked up possession and drove towards goal. He then fired in a perfect shot, which curled effortlessly into the far corner, giving Westwood no chance. It was a real moment of quality.

After that there were few chances, Afobe swivelled sharply in the box but fired straight at Westwood, and Sako audaciously attempted to score from inside his own half with a free kick. Wednesday had a couple of half chances, but didn't trouble Kuszczak. The game petered out, but potentially at a cost. Firstly Stearman went off with what looked like a foot injury, and then McDonald was taken off, possibly for protection, having being given some pretty nasty treatment, particularly from Hutchinson. After receiving treatment for possibly the fifth late, niggly challenge, he was taken off for Edwards.

I think aside from a couple of lapses, we were in control for most of the evening. The second and third goals were really clinically taken, and allowed us to ease off towards the end. There are bigger tests to come, certainly, but the three points tonight were well earned and very much merited, I felt.

    Ratings:

Kuszczak- 7. Will be pleased with a clean sheet, earned in no small part thanks to a wonderful flying save in the first half. One panicky moment when he flapped at a cross, but other than that a comfortable night for him.

Doherty- 7. I felt he played much better tonight. Defended well, largely on the front foot, and bombed forward to good effect, culminating in a terrific cross for the second goal.

Batth- 7. Had a real battle at times with Nuhiu, and although I would think that statistically the big striker won more headers than our captain, I felt that generally Danny had things under control.

Stearman- 8. Was enjoying another excellent evening until it was curtailed by what is hopefully not a serious injury. Brought the ball out well, and although there were a couple of poor touches, generally looked very comfortable.

Golbourne- 7. A comfortable night, I think he got his distances spot on in terms of marking his winger, knew when to push tight and when to drop off. Didn't see much from an attacking point of view.

Price- 7. Tidy performance, dropped deep to keep possession moving, and played two or three delightful balls over the top for Van La Parra and then Afobe. Might have done better when the ball fell nicely for him first half though, could have scored with a better finish.

McDonald- 9- MotM. Imperious. Simply dominated the midfield. Played with real purpose, no pass was for vanity's sake. Difficult to knock off the ball, though goodness me did Wednesday try, and despite being given some pretty hostile treatment, always demanded the ball. Perhaps the biggest enigma of our season is why it has taken until the New Year to see the very best of last year's shining light?

VLP- 5. The only negative for me tonight. Wasted two great chances with poor final balls, and second half he skipped out of two 50-50s near our box, the second of which led to an effort on goal. Kenny spotted this straight away and made the change, and Rajiv did not seem happy, ignoring the manager's offer of a handshake and heading down the tunnel. Personally, I'd rather see him pick up 8 bookings between now and the end of the season for late tackles than watch him bottle another 50-50. There's a good player in him, needs to cut out the bad habits though.

Sako- 8. Lively performance, drifted all over the pitch in search of possession, and although he wasn't as dominant on the ball as he sometimes can be, was involved in some lovely builf up play, and of course dispatched the penalty with aplomb.

Afobe- 9. Pushed McDonald close for our best player. An absolute joy to watch tonight, he really was. Thought he used possession superbly, held things up well, brought others into play, and of course, finished superbly for 2-0. £2m really looks like money well spent. Not only is 8 goals in 13 games an excellent return, he's added so much to our overall play too.

Dicko- 8. An evening where nothing really came off in front of goal, but he worked tirelessly, and won the penalty through sheer persistence if nothing else. I do wonder whether we'll be too open if we play both him and Afobe against the better sides, but it's a nice problem to have.

    Subs:

Henry- 7. Great goal, and a really positive impact from the bench, must start on Friday for me.

EEL/Edwards- Kept things solid when they came on.

Kenny- 9. Positive team selection, and got the VLP/Henry sub spot on.

Referee (Mr Hooper)- 8. I do like this referee, and I thought he had a good game. Got the penalty call right, I think, and generally let things flow when he could, including in the build up to the penalty. Being picky, I felt Hutchison for Wednesday could and should have been at least booked for some of his over zealous challenges.

Do it more than twice maybe? Tackle, don't bottle challenges allowing the opposition a free run and attack, don't showboat and lose the ball in our own half....have a bit of respect for his manager and teammates maybe?

He isn't as good as he thinks he is....

He doesn't think he is good. You can that by the amount of times he cuts back, he suffers from lack of confidence and it holds him back slightly.

He ran 60m back to make a tackle and make amends after he lost the ball. He doesn't win many 50/50's but the more I watch him, he just seems scared , like he hasn't been bought up going in hard in tackles. A bit of coaching will do the trick, as sometimes it isn't wise to go into a 50/50

I hope you are right, but I am becoming less and less convinced every time I see him.

  39. You put more rounded less flashy players like Kightly and Jarvis in instead of the ill-disciplined Sako and VLP and we are more likely to finish top two than struggle to finish seventh.

Kuszack 6.5 great save but scares the life out of me
Doherty 7 still has shaky moments but great cross
Batth 8 after a hard start he grew into his best game for a while
Stears 7.5 it's getting predictable that he plays well now
Golborne 6.5 we've not seen the best of him hope his fitness comes soon
Van La Parra 6 for everything good he does the bottling it ruined it
Price. 8 he's the man that knots this team together
Macdonald. 9 that was a joy to watch, one thru ball in 1st half was creamy
Sako 6.5 so wasteful with his passing but that ball at the end is his class
Afobe 8.5 the new bully?? I mean it this guy is deadly
Dicko 7.5 ran his nuts off, couple of poor decisions but deserved a goal
    Subs
Henry 7.5 offers so much more then La Parra, worldy goal
Ebanks landell 7 fitted on well his time is to come
Edwards not on long enough really
Thought the south bank were excellent and the ref let too many niggles get off Scott free
