Bit of a blanket coming in apparently that will linger all day tomorrow. How thick does it have to be to call off matches? Is it seeing one of the pitch to the other type thing?

Should get Reggie from the Troggs on the case!

I think the rule is, you need to see both goalposts when stood on half-way line.

I remember a game back in the late 80's in Div4 against Stockport I think (Frank Worthington) and it was foggy. I was in John Ireland stand, and most of 2nd half couldnot see anything of game. We equalised, and we knew because South Bank was cheering - so we all cheered .

    Very bizarre

Do you mean one end of the pitch to the other? If so, then I guess that would be good enough?!?

Ha! I remember that. Was in the JI too. The action was impossible to follow at times; a real comedy game.

remember just seeing shadows in the fog - as the pitch was so far away.

I am sure Frank Worthington scored for them too - before fog came down!

    January 16th 1988............my first game.

Thick fog from the kick off, from the South Bank couldn't see any further than the edge of the penalty area.
1-1, Nigel Vaughan with a thunderous header

Aye, I was there too. Wasn't that where Kendall showed his a$se to us in the South Bank as he was the only person we could see on the pitch! I thought that our goal was scored in the North Bank end, but my memory could be, ahem, foggy.

Vaughan scored at the South Bank end, Worthington scored at the North Bank.

Rumours after the game that Stockport played with 12 men in the 2nd half

Thanks Kenny, I stand corrected. Didn't know about the 12 man rumour. Mind you it could have been 24 and no-one would have been much wiser. Hope the game's unaffected. Small crew meeting up at the Albert in Greenwich to watch this one.

not very clear, could be ok, might not be:

    Saturday:

Widespread fog and frost will only clear slowly with fog persisting all day in some areas, and here remaining very cold. It should however, remain mostly dry until evening. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

I remember a story of a game in the 60's I think which was abandoned because of fog, the referee called everyone off and all the Charlton players went for their post match communal bath when they realised there was one missing, the goalkeeper, who assumed the game was still out there on the pitch thinking Charlton were attacking.

I have a vague memory of playing Cardiff at Mol in ridiculous fog, same era, but sure we scored at empty North Bank end, was only a relative youngster then so might be getting my games mixed up. Remember Kendall having a laugh with us in South Bank as there was nothing else to watch

  22. Well I can certainly remember standing on the North Bank in about 1968, when we played the Potties, and not being able to see much beyond the halfway line.

Apparently we lost 4-3, but that was only a rumour!

Famous last words but I can't see fog being a problem. Games that are fogged off tend to be evening games when it is also dark. Can't see it being bad enough to affect a mid day game

It's OK Mancienne's fit again and Super Neill can cover if he gets lost.

I've just got in, driving from Northampton to Basingstoke ... fog is pretty bad down here. I hope it's not as thick up Wolvo way.

Remember the Liverpool game when we were in the Prem??

Or was that called off because of snow? I can't remember the reason, all I remember is being very frustrated! A six hour round trip seems pretty pointless for no football!

The Liverpool game was called off due to the amount of rain that had fallen in quite a short space of time.

At the mo I am "watching" the Victory Shield U-16`s beween England and Scotland at Lincolns ground on Sky 2.

I say "watching" as it is so `king foggy it is very hard to see more than half the pitch!

England have just scored 1-0 after 10 mins...

Could someone give an update on the weather around Wolverhampton at the mo please.

I am planning to leave in about thirty minutes and don't really like the look of things up here.
