"And now the former Manchester United captain has left his first managerial post, leaving Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn with the task of finding somebody to guide the club to Premier League safety"

Lets hope McCarthy's love in with Sunderland does'nt sway him into taking a 2nd stint at their helm.

Nothing on their official site yet, but no surprise really.

  5. no major suprise if true, ssn rarely run with these things if they know they're wrong though...

gotta say, he won't have any issues getting back into managment, which is weird considering he's spent £80 million on this current squad and they're utter gash.

so the premiership is not so easy to manage in even by spending millions, makes me think dave jones did a bloody good job for us.

Whoops! that was careless...the Irish contingent that backed the whole Sunderland deal won't have our MM..maybe one for Kevin Keegan:):)

What a mess he made of things after a good start. If you are pinning your hopes on the likes of Chimbonda and Diouf you are in big trouble though.

Let's be honest though, they've now got a playing squad that should be good enough to pull them clear of the relegation places, I know I'd certainly like to see players like Cisse in a Wolves shirt. Overall he's done a good job, just recently it's all gone a bit to pot.

Because he didn't quite blow 80 million? No matter how badly other managers do, it doesn't rewrite history.

Strikes me that as soon as the going got tough, he's jumped ship. Appalling way to repay the club after they backed him so much in the transfer market. Obviously full details have yet to emerge, so I'll reserve the right to backtrack on that!

I'd be seething if I were a Macam, but as I'm not I'll have a laugh at their expense.

Keane is a quitter. Having been spoiled by playing for a top team for most of his career and being able to exert a direct influence on things. He walked out on Ireland and he's walked out on Sunderland.

I am sure tomorrow we'll read yet more excuses on how Keane 'was frustrated by not dealing with the kind of players he worked with at Man Utd' - boo $$$$ing hoo.

I don't think Roy Keane has done anything other than pontificate for the last year or more, and for such a supposed hard man, he's clearly demonstrated he's a gutless, spineless wimp.

...and if he's got any issue with me saying that, tell him to take it up with Deutsch Wolf.

  17. Think they would want Mick back?

  18. PabloWolfo

I don't think Mick would go back, I think he's got things more or less the way he wants them here, and he's not going to leave now and let our next manager take the credit for promotion, or let the next manager fudge things up...

Curbs is the obvious choice for me.

  20. They would have to give MM and the club a pretty big sack of cash to prise him from here. Not really sure if Curbishley would go there either. It should be a fixable situation when you look at the squad though.

He wouldn't go back, it would take him 2 years to sort that lot out, pretty much the same job he has done here, I'm sure he wants to see the job through here. I couldn't see Mick getting on with the likes of Diouf, probably tell him to **** off which is what Diouf needs anyway.

Never thought Keane would be a Keegan type manager, I doubt we will see him in another job anytime soon. Who would want to employ a manager who can just walk out in a strop? Maybe the next Republic manager.

think he has spent a lot of money, made a hash of things, and thought better get out now, as it will be much worse when he cant turn it round.

Think of their wage bill etc, if they get relegated -could cripple them

Mick has a better record at Sunderland than Keane winning 42.85% of games against RK's 42%

I agree - he'd fit in well . And how ironic if he went on to win a few things with them after being dumped (harshly IMHO) out of Newcastlle...

For anyone who's seen the 'I Keano' stage-play in Dublin, which re-tells the Saipan 2002 World Cup shambles, it's hard not to laugh at the relative current fortunes of MM and RK. The play is aimed at those in Ireland (and there are quite a few) who have a completely myopic devotion to all things Roy Keane and in turn think MM is a complete idiot - he's portrayed in the play as a bumbling fool terrified of Roy Keane. Quite hard to watch as a MM-supporting Wolves fan, even though it is only a bit of fun. The irony is that the play was constantly updated over the last few years to keep it up to date with the careers of both MM and RK. I think the play has finished its run now, but if it was still going they probably wouldn't bother to update it now

Based on the crude limitations of the following, who did the worse job?

McCarthy for taking Sunderland down for a then record low point total without any money to spend.

Or Keane for taking them into the bottom three after blowing an horrendous amount of money.

Allardyce was not dumped harshly by Newcastle, they were terrible under him. Players played out of position, no passion, and dreadful, dreadful football that made Wolves under Hoddle look like 1970s Brazil.

First sign of pressure Kean runs
