    Another day, another link!

Raúl Jiménez estaría cerca de llegar al Wolverhampton

Raúl Jiménez, Mexican striker of Benfica of Portugal, would be very close to play with Wolverhampton the following campaign.

The operation would be for loans for five million euros, as described on the cover of the newspaper Ojogo of June 8.

The English team is newly promoted to the Premier League and for a couple of years has been in the hands of Fosun International, a Chinese company with services and producer in different sectors.

Wolverhampton is a historical set in English football, they are called Wolves and will return to play in the Premier in which they are not since 2012.

63 caps for Mexico is impressive. Hardly prolific (certainly not 61 in 61). What style of player is he?

Mexico have got an array of talent that we should be looking at, Jimenez would be one I'd be surprised about though.

Would rather have spent the money on Bonatini.

I guess Jiminez would be the second choice striker, behind Andre Silva ( should he finally sign ) ?

    You'd like to think so.

I'm not convinced that he would move to play second fiddle, mind.

He has a very average scoring record. The fact that he struggled to find the net with a team like Atlético is worrying.

I agree with other posters, his scoring record is far from impressive. Perhaps the board know something we don't and his playing style may suit the PL more. Or, it could just be a link with no substance to it. If it is true, then i'd be hoping for strikers with a better pedigree.

The Mexican Kevin Doyle! Saying that, he has played 120 times for Benfica since signing for 22m from Atletico. Costa and Cav barely got a game there!

    Obligatory Youtube montage

Benfica use him as an impact sub and I imzgine that'll be what he'll be used as if he comes to Wolves.

He’s a good player I’d certainly be pleased if he was one of our two strikers next season, just like I’d be pleased if either Willian Jose or Andre silva were to sign as well, if we had 2 out of those 3 sign I’d be very pleased.

Could not be interested in any of them though and be targeting people we have yet to be linked to like Lyon’s Mariano, Torino’s Belotti or even Batshuyai, nobody knows but it’s exciting times!

This would be a fantastic signing but only if we sign a prolific striker on top. I have watched Benfica many times and he scares the life of defenders. He is not bonatini, this lad oooozes class

Whilst it looks like he’s played a lot of games, they are nearly all sub appearances.

He’s a good player (and would suit what we want from a striker) but he’s got Jonas in front of him at Benfica who scores for fun and doesn’t seem to be getting any worse with age.

He’d be ideal as a second choice and has shown he can still get goals regularly when coming off the bench.

His actual time on the pitch at Benfica equates to about 30 games for those looking at his scoring record, at Atlético it was about 6-7 games.

It isn’t considering Simeone is a freak over a solid defense, I mean the whole ethos of Atletico is being hard to break down, hence why they only conceded 3 goals in 2018 at home.

He was good enough to keep Griezmann on the bench at times during his time in Madrid, a really solid player who gives everything at all times.

Think people are getting carried away. Cancelo transfer proves some players are out of our reach. Jiminez is our level at the mo

Big difference between La Liga and the Portugal top flight. La Liga teams are much harder to score against - easy to score goals in Portugal.

    Sounds like a euphemism.

Perhaps if I'd posted Timmy! but that would have made even less sense on this thread than posting Jimmy!...just getting in early with this new players nickname :D

He wouldn't score enough goals IMO but he would be a great signing.

Very good back to goal player, appears quite good at everything (i.e. holding up, heading, reasonably quick, works hard etc. ) without specialising in one.

I know your immediately thinking Doyle and I saw it was mentioned and it's understandable.

Probably similar in that he doesn't sniff out enough goals as well.

What I will say though, Doyle's end soured how good he was. Imagine the Doyle of the first two years in a Nuno side, I think it would've worked extremely well. He was mobile, hardworking and would create so much space for the players in behind.

Think Jiminez would be similar and could easily chip in with 8-10 over a season.

Would be very happy if this happened.

Seems possible too, have seen him linked with a move away from Benfica for a few windows now and wasn't first-choice last season.

Until 7.30 this morning I’d never heard of him but this is no longer unusual so went through google to become the instant expert. Apparently Everton and Liverpool were interested last year Raul Jimenez - all you need to know about the Benfica star who Liverpool and Everton are both lining up
According to his stats at the end of 2017 he scored 1 goal per 4 shots and just over 50% of his shots were in target. Also seems to be a positive influence in the dressing room so maybe good as an impact sub which seems to have been his role.

This one seems more like it. He is a great player, puts himself about and works hard whilst having shedloads of technical ability. All in

Just to add a different twist to his supposedly poor goals to games ratio, bear in mind he's spent the majority of time at Benfica (and Atletico) playing as the understudy to Jonas, who is a hero to the Benfica fans, averaging a goal a game in his last four seasons.

Jimenez, in his last four seasons, from a purely minutes to goals perspective, averaged a goal every 168 minutes. If he started regularly and kept to that same ratio, he'd be averaging 1 in 2. I'm not suggesting he'll average a goal every other game in the Premier League, but I do think he's more prolific than his stats initially suggest. He also offers a lot more than just goals to his game.

In all likelihood, he won't be the only striker we end up signing this summer, and he's a much better option than Afobe who's already played regularly at this level and not performed to the levels Nuno will be demanding next season.

Goal stats are irrelevant as our system suits a false nine who links play. If Nuno wants him then go get him
