Well done to this guy.... Mark Richards on Twitter "Need to report a racist sat in the Temporary Stand to the club. He left under pressure when South Bank turned on him. People around him were uncomfortable with him all night but probably too scared to say anything. Vile individual I’ve got his seat number. Who do I @? #wwfc " Instantly acted on by Laurie as well. No room for this at our great ground.
I was sat in the north bank nu4 and heard someone several rows behind me shout racism towards a newcastle player receiving treatment in the 80th minute "black ****" . Couldn't identify him as it happened so quickly but i urge anyone in the north bank who saw who it was to come forward and identify this man.
It's brilliant that these people are being called out. It's on all of us to back up anyone you see who calls out racism at a game. It's easier to do if you have support of those around you. Identify the idiots and get them banned. No place for them at our club.
Very well done for calling it out, and well done Laurie for being on the case quickly. I'm sure these clowns happily celebrated Boly's goal minutes after making vile remarks about people based on the colour of their skin.
Very proud of the fans in the ground not standing for this, and more importantly, for having the courage to be doing something about it. It the only way that this evil will be stamped out We are a great club with very high standards.
"Mark, extremely saddened to hear this. I’ll DM you, and if you share your contact details with me, our Supporter Liaison Officer will be in contact this morning so we may identify the individual in question. Thanks for speaking out." followed by: "To reaffirm our position and reassure fans, the club has a ZERO tolerance policy with regards to racism. We’re confident we’ve already identified the individual concerned and will act with the strongest terms possible. Thanks to everyone who has contacted us"
We already do in a lot of ways with Punjabi Wolves etc. I know a few other clubs have similar supporter groups but from what I've seen we do generally seem to be a really inclusive group of football fans. Which is pleasing typing this as someone born in England but with an Indian family background. I know there will always be one or two idiots, but I've never felt uncomfortable around Wolves fans - everyone is usually spot on and everybody is treated with the same embrace.
Personally I've not really seen in the terraces at Wolves or away... Can honestly say I've only heard it once and that was spurs away about 8 years ago when people where chanting "gas the Jews"
That's Wolverhampton for you. It's never had a segregated feel to it like cities like Birmingham do. I realise we have some great initiatives already, I meant that we should lead the way on calling it out when it happens.
I've got no time for racist ****s in this day and age. Well done Laurie, club and all involved for outing this vile individual.
Disappointing to hear that there was such backwards remarks made at the game yesterday but glad that the perpetrator has seemingly been identified. Nuno was actually born in Africa, in a former Portuguese colony.
Apologies. I read an article the other day that said one of his grandfathers was African. I stand corrected.
It's quite an interesting fact really since he is always referred to as Portuguese. I think Costa is from Angola too.
Bit far. If they do it in the ground then report it to the club. If they do it on twitter, theres a report button there too.
If someone calls one of our players a black **** on Twitter, I'm not sure the club would want to give them the chance to do it in the ground too.
If theyre racist on twitter, report it to twitter, theres no need to start taking that post to companies and saying "look this guy is racist dont do business with him".
I remember going to White Hart Lane once and standing next to a ***** who was hissing at the home fans and laughing to himself about it. I did try to report it to the club but at the time, nobody gave a toss, unfortunately. We have as many idiots in our midst as any other club I suppose. I'm impressed with the way we've handled this situation though.
If it were completely unrelated maybe. Like you wouldn't go to Nando's and tell them not to serve him some chicken because he said something racist. But this isn't unrelated. He supposedly supports Wolves, yet is happy to openly call one of our own players a black **** on Twitter. Why would the club want to risk allowing someone like that to openly abuse one of our own players at a match? It's like America have a policy to monitor the social media usage of anyone wanting to enter America. If someone says something anti-American, they risk not being let in.
It depends for me, if its repeated and malicious, I'd probably agree. If its a one off outburst, not so. I dont know the context here other than one outburst, so my instinct is air on the side of caution. yes the guy said something racist, but I dont think people should be perma-banned from the stadium for one outburst on twitter. If its incidents like some at stadiums where they harass players or throw **** at them, sure ban those people.
Sorry but I disagree. No level of racism should be tolerated in any capacity. Excuses like 'whoops it slipped off the tongue in the heat of the moment' don't wash with me. You should be held accountable for your actions, it's the only way to eradicate it from the game.
I'm not saying he should be let off. I said he should be reported to twitter, as its their platform the guy did it on. I'm saying I'd rather a proportional response depending on circumstances rather than essentially exiling a person for a single tweet.
Or report it to the club anyway and let them decide whether they want to get involved or not - rather than let some random on a forum tell people what should and shouldn't be reported and to whom.
Wow, ok. I am honestly surprised by this post. The logic doesnt make sense to me, it shouldnt be any companies concern what a customer does in their own time. Should this guy not be allowed to shop at the supermarket because he said something racist on twitter? What about banks? Is he allowed to have a bank account? What about his house, should the bank/letting agency be allowed to do business with him? Or do you think you should just send them the tweet and let them decide? If you exile a person for a single comment and give them no road to redemption you are essentially giving that person zero incentive to change and infact giving them every reason to be more radical in their views.
