Obviously I don't know all the ins and outs of the situation but this is poor IMV and unless a very good, genuine and valid reason can be given I think they have every right to ask an apology.

I wouldn't JUST blame the police, blame the draconian legislation that treats football supporters so much differently to any other groups in society.

Still seen as thugs and a nuisance by the establishment right but not trendy enough for the plastic left/human rights types to get involved.

Another case of one rule for football fans and another for every other human being in the country.

True you can't just blame the police but they are the enforcers and no doubt request some of these special powers over football fans.

They defend the establishment and don't serve the public unfortunately.

One of the biggest issues with this is that things had apparently already been agreed with WMP.

WMP spokesman refers to National Guidelines, not legislation, nor regulations just guidelines. Guidelines that automatically become statute where football fans are concerned.

I can see though that they're just protecting themselves in case anything did happen and they'd gone against them. They'd have been kicked from pillar to post.

The meet up before the match at a bar 4 miles out from town was agreed but the City centre one after the game was not.

Thats how I read it and the draconian legistalation (or guidlelines) that only apply to football supporters tied WMP hands to an extent (although I'm sure if they really wanted to they could have got round it).

“I was very saddened to learn of the experiences of the Punjabi Rams away to Wolves. While they are at pains to stress that they do not deem the incident in any way racist,"

    WTF?

I suppose when they are mentioning that they were discriminated against many would initially think they are referring to race rather than being a football supporter, particularly none football supporters reading.

Sad really. But a case of Damned if you do damned if you dont. It would only take one idiot, not necessarily associated with either of the groups of supporters to have generated an entirely sadder headline. It is sad that we all end up being tarred with the same brush, but in dome respects the police cannot take the chance.

I am not one for defending the establishment, but whichever way they go with football supporters some group or other would be unhappy.

I would say that after the Watford game the police were being ultra cautious.

I am no fan of the police but this is an occasion where they were dammed if they did and dammed if they didn't, if the derby fans had been attacked we would have been reading very different headlines!!
