Deserves its own thread. Couldn't get in to a team getting relegated from the Championship. Now scoring the goal that put the group leaders up against ROI, kicking Coleman all over the place then causing havoc to get free kicks. Doing okay tonight and just shows it's not always the players that's the issue.

Came on as sub in Saunders' first game against Blackburn and was our one bright spark. Then we spent the next two months alternating Dave Edwards and Kevin Foley at right-midfield.

    Bizarre...

We were abysmal in that game - utterly atrocious. Some people on here were hailing it as some sort of brave new dawn though. Depending on who you believe, Peszko was either too small for Dean or one more appearance triggered a buy-out clause.

I liked him a lot too. But the theories about him not being played at the time were (a) difficult, bolshy character (b) some clause or other in his contract that meant playing him more than a certain number of games was going to cost Wolves money (or something like that). The 'Saunders was stupid' theory sounds at least as plausible as (a) or (b).

Never rated him to be honest.

He iirc refused to travel to an away game as he wasn't guaranteed to play, allegedly.

Not even. Saunders ordered him to travel even though he had excluded him from the squad for that game, not just the starting XI.

Easily the best right winger at the club at the time.

He was very underrated and there was some sort of clause in his contract linked to appearances and extra payments.
It is extremely likely (knowing SM's cost cutting measures here) this was the reason he didn't play again at Wolves.

Maybe he has given up drinking.

He was good, the drinking rumor is the same as mark davies who cares as long as they do it on the pitch?

I think there also was a rumor if he played an extra game we would have to pay 500k as part of the loan agreement. Anyone clarify or remember this?

Anyway he still looks a good player shame we didn't loan boukari and sign him.

Our dip in form coincided with his injury vs Palace. We were never the same without him imo.

How much money did we spend that season considering we were cost cutting? Remember the season loan for Doumbia then signing him for a big fee & contract 4 months in. Worst business ever.

A tidy little player, just don't think he settled too well & I'm not sure how much difference he would have made. SEB was the killer blow.

I liked him hence my username! Seemed we actually had a few decent players that season, Davis looks like blues best player at the moment, ebanks-blake, Ikeme. Where does the Peszko play now, didn't he go back to Germany for a bit?

He's back at 1. FC Koeln, who sold him to Parma who loaned him back, then they bought him back last summer for some baffling reason.

Reading this you realise how stable things are under KJ. OK there is the occasional selection issue but by and large the team pretty much stays the same, the driftwood will all be gone by summer and the future looks bright. I think it's probably best we steer clear of foreign signings!!!!!!!!

We spent close to £10million that season.

You forgot to mention we got rid of 13 players raising over £30million !!

Everyone knows SM loves a bit of cost cutting; crikey we have almost halved the size of the squad and the wage bill is a fraction of what it was.
We also did our best to avoid spending on new players; the cost of Afobe and Saville was more or less covered by the transfer fees received for T Doumbia, S Ward and D Davis.

So self sufficient, god forbid we spend within our means. Maybe a transfer embargo or a massive fine would be better instead.

Wasn't hard really considering the other options were Adam Hammill, perma-injured Stephen Hunt, perma-injured Razak Boukari, an out of position Dave Edwards or an out of position Kevin Foley.

He was a decent player not given a chance at the end. He has now moved on and so should we.

He is more than good enough player for Championship. He thrives in high tempo football like yesterday against Ireland. Not a big lad but excellent work rate and fight in him.

I think even Saunders was not stupid enough to play Foley or Edwards on the right wing ahead of Peszko. Must have been some kind of an activation clause in the deal with Koln.

For the life of me I can't think where but sure I read somewhere that Wolves got about a million for Doumbia? No idea what they got from the sale of Davis or Ward but sure fees were involved.

Wasn't there rumour going about that he wasn't played by Wolves because if he reached a certain number of appearances Wolves had to stump up some money?

I don't know enough about his contractual situation or off field issues to pass comment on them but I rated him as a player and would have him in our current starting line-up.

Agreed. A feisty, talented player. He should have been a regular when fit as he lifted the team. Whatever the reason, a real shame that he was frozen out and then allowed to leave.

Indeed no, it was just over £2million.

Not that far off what we paid for Afobe and Saville.
