Three cheers for Mikey Burrows. He has been superb this season.
Love the bloke.
He is quite simply STUNNING!!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Yeeeeeeeessssssssssssss! Mikey Burrows, Mikey Burrows, Mikey Burrows.
Indeed he has brought great passion to the games with his commentaries.
I don't really here him commentate live cos I'm usually at the game but it's great to listen back afterwards! Love how when we score a goal, whilst he's thinking of what to say he just shouts the player's name over and over again!
Usually three times @JadeWolf - except for the Neves wonder goal where I think he only said Neves twice he was so stunned
Brilliant commentator, he's really added a lot to the experience of this season - his excitement and ability to articulate the moment is authentic and matches the passion and elation of the fans.
Not so keen on his interviews - he needs to be more definite and assertive with his questions, sometimes the vague 'how did it feel' 'how great was it' schmoozefest winds Nuno up. I think it's worse when he's nervous eg Nuno is not in the mood.
I know it's not easy doing club PR but be concise and to the point. Practise practise beforehand.
Love listening back on our goals, have played Bonatini’s against Villa over and over again. There’s a great review of the season on YouTube that features him heavily. Guess it’s great whilst we’re winning!
"in the right place at the right time"...
Have to agree. You can see the looks on the players faces when he asks completely wishy washy questions and then repeats them after he's already asks them just with slightly different words
For a Bluenose he does get tremendously excited about the Wolves.
MIKEY BURROWS MIKEY BURROWS MIKEY BURROWS!!!!
love the way he shouts names three times.
Great passion and excellent match commentary but his interviewing technique is poor and often boring especially with Nuno.
He needs to be more challenging and occasionally change the nature of his questions. He should ask the difficult questions when needed . Clearly a nice guy but needs help to become more professional and courageous on this.
However he has played his part very well in his commentaries. Perhaps we could have a change from Thommo occasionally who can in truth be a little dull. "YOU KNOW WHAT"........again and again..........
His interviews are really bad. His questions aren't questions, they're just statements of facts and the players/Nuno simply say 'yes'.
Also being passionate doesn't make you a great commentator... *runs into hiding*
Seriously?! God that’s disappointing!! I really like his commentaries and passion for Wolves! That’s a blow.
Yep. It’s a very common occurrence.
The Villa commentator is a Wolves fan, for instance. He was formerly of this parish in fact. Most of the Villa media team support other clubs.
The bluenose stuff can't be right as he was formally an MK Dons fan.
A very good commentator. Poor interviewer with little variation in technique. I've never met the guy but a trusted personal contact who knows him has also confirmed he is (or at least was) a Bluenose. To be fair any football person watching us week in week out would have been genuinely wowed by our performances over this last season. Boro fan Nathan Judah for example has definitely shown genuine affection for our club IMV.
With Burrows I'm not so sure it's genuine as he was just as gushing about the club during Kenny Jackett's final season when the football was at its most turgid and boring and off the pitch the club was drifting aimlessly. As a club employee I guess he was obliged to put a positive spin on things even when back then things were far from rosy. LG Wolf summerises it nicely.
He used to commentate on their matches for a local radio station.
Think the interviewing stuff is a bit harsh, some of the player interviews have been really good this year, it’s just clear Nuno has no time for media stuff, anyone who’s listened to WM’s interviews will know Nuno practically loves Mikey in comparison. By the way has anyone seen the end of season interview with Nuno on Wolves Facebook? Best interview they’ve done all year, maybe because there wasn’t a game to talk about but it’s compelling viewing
Mikey "Thrice" Burrows he should be called, although we had four "IT'S IN"s at Bristol City, fair to say he went mental on that one
Thommo tends to start every sentence with 'It's what I say, loike' which can grate after a while!
Yep, I saw that interview - Mikey sounded like he was about to drop to his knees
In my view, Mikey Burrows is the best football commentator in the country.
His speed of thought is what really impresses me..
In a second Mikey can brilliantly put into words, and sum up, what he has just seen.
This, on top of his passion and the excitement he puts across to the listener, is second to none.
Just fantastic, I think he is the perfect commentator for Wolves games.
Hi Mikey, thanks for your commentary this season.
Let's be honest player interviews are rarely the most entertaining thing ever, whoever asks the questions.
I like that Mikey's passionate etc but I'm glad I go to the matches rather than rely on the commentary to know what's happening. Often can't actually make out what's going on between all of Mikey's theatrics.
Listened to the Sunderland game on the radio on Sunday, it was almost 10 minutes into the game before Mikey actually mentioned something that was happening on the pitch
Wish I hadn't read this. I would have bet a million that Mikey was a Wolves supporter. But then again, I never was a good judge of character.
Must have listened to his commentary of the last few mins against Cardiff over 100 times. After a few beers it’s impossible not to get choked up hearing that back, superb!
I couldnt agree more, he is a brilliant communicator and deserves his own thread. Can anyone explain why his commentary does not feature on the WW full match TV recording? Many of them have no commentary at all or some run of the mill comentator who voice and synthetic excitement is plain dull after Mikey.
Totally agree, sometimes I think it’s the language barrier. He’ll interview someone, ask them a question, they’ll answer it the way they want and he’ll then pretty much follow up with a question that can only produce the answer they’ve just given him.
Great commentary and full of Wolves enthusiasm all the same. Can’t fault his attitude as a fan. I think he maybe gets side tracked into trying to trying to get the emotion they’re feeling out of them because he’s feeling it, as we all were but like you say they just want to tow the party line sometimes and produce the generic answer. I do feel like I’ve seen Jota and Neves say the same thing ten times this week though in his interviews. Started to wonder if he got a bit more out of Nuno the other day because Nuno might have had a couple of proseccos haha.
Good luck to him, he cares and has delivered some wonderful sound bites that have enhanced some great memories.
He'd be great for Sky. Surprised he hasn't been picked up by a broadcaster. Miles better than Jonathon 'robot wars' Pearce. Unless of course, they think Burrows face is perfect for radio!
Mikey, Mikey Burrows Rules OK!
I was at Sunderland, nothing happened trust me you weren’t missing anything
That's maybe because NOTHING was happening.Unfortunately wolves were on the beach for this game.
Those criticizing his interview technique are forgetting he's a club employee. He's not there for a "scoop" or to criticize the club (his employer) in any way. Cut him some slack, he's not a journalist, he's a presenter.
I am shocked! I genuinely thought he was a Wolves fan.
If he shows that much passion and excitement commentating on our games when he isn't even a Wolf, I can't imagine how he would act if he was.
He'd probably explode!
****ing hell! A bluenose, now I have a reason to slate his interviewing style.
Separate names with a comma.
