Wolves are set to beat Portsmouth to the £2m signing of Bristol City midfielder Marvin Elliott. (Daily Mirror)

    Happy new year everyone

    just beat me to it!

if he can get his form back he is an outstanding player at this level, I would like to see a more creative player as well.

Not too sure about elliot. not the player he was last season, maybe a move will revitalise him.

I suggested this on the transfer policy thread last week when it was mentioned that he was going to Pompey, like it was a foregone confusion.
We're in a bloody good position to argue with the likes of Portsmouth over a player like Elliot at the moment....he might get 4 months in the Prem with them and then be relegated.
Would he want to sign a 4 yr deal only to start next season playing in front of 19K at a ramshackle old ground next season in the same league as Bristol City? Almost a step down.

Yes please. We need cover for Henry. Plus to sign a player from that arrogant lot would be brilliant seeing as they claim they're a bigger club due to finishing higher than us in the league last year....

    http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=110368

Brace yourselves for "We'm bigger than both of them" and "Why would he join a tinpot club like Wolves".

Oh no, their fans believe they're a bigger club than us as well. When it came to our match against them they said the only player they'd have from us is Michael Kightly as their players in other positions were far superior to ours - league table says different methinks.

Definately both Dewsbury. They really are a bunch of arrogant $$$$ers on OTIB.

I must admit I would be hard pressed for thinking of a reason to go to Wolves if it was me unless next years spending plans are very clearly spelt out. With the current squad you wouldn't find a bookie to take your bet for us to go straight back down.

    Fair play then.

Is Elliott really all that good though? One season wonder?

He's suffering a loss of form according to the Bristol lot, but a move away to freshen things up a bit may just be what he needs. Still fairly young at 24 as well.

The only thing is this would more so be cover for Henry, I think we need to look to buying a partner for Henry first rather than cover for him. I don't want to see Henry being pushed forward again like he was when Olofinjana played next to him...

Happy new year everyone. We need someone who will be able to cut it in the Prem since that's where our ambitions lie. Will Elliott be able to do that?

I like Henry when he bustles through, tackles and brings the ball out...great defensively and he's improved amazingly in 2 seasons.
Trouble is for me, he passes one footed and always takes a touch to get it onto his preferred foot. By then the other players are being closed down. If we went up...he'd suffer.
Part of the problem recently is that the midfield play has been too slow and inaccurate...we're getting bogged down.

Seems I'm wrong in thinking Elliott would be cover for Henry - Elliott is actually an attacking box-to-box player (I personally was always of the opinion he was defensive due to his midfield partner being Carle last season!)

    Bristol City fan:
At least with Henry as a partner he wouldn't have to bother breaking up play.

Of course everyones wrong in their assessment of him, he's just a name that people mention parrot fashion whenever transfer targets come up having only actually seen him play once if at all. Add ben watson, jay tabb, billy sharp etc to the only ever slightly expanding list.

Most people would have seen ben watson play quite a few times to be fair monky.

I'd always assumed Elliott was more of a defensive midfielder so I'm surprised he's seen as being an attacking one. From what I've seen its his sheer energy and powerful tackling which has made his name rather than any creativity.

I suspect he is MM's No.1 target this January and he fits the club's criteria of being quite young (24) yet with plenty of games under his belt. Have no idea whether he could make the jump to the Premiership but if we are cherry picking the best players in the Championship in their position then surely he is one of them, albeit that early season injuries have hampered his form this time round.

I thought he was very much the holding player too? Maybe if Mick see's MD coming back from the Foxes as ready for the creative role.

I think you're right Goldeneyed, if we do sign him he's the big signing, the others will be less well known or coming to the end of a contract like Tabb

If Elliott is brought in guess it's a winger and a forward left, plus Manciene extending his loan or the lad from the O's in as his replacement

whenever ive seen elliott, either live or on tv, ive thought of him as a defensive midfielder.
if he is this all action box to box player which is being suggested then even more reason to get him in.

    happy new year everyone

Not sure about Elliot - one good season followed by a much poorer one this time around. Prior to that he was picked by one Millwall fan in the 442 magazine's season preview as the player he'd happily drive to his next club!
