Long Ball.

  1. As you may know our style of play is very much long ball up to the big front man......Chris Iwelumo.

Problem is I have just thought of a flaw in this.

What happens if Iwelumo gets injured? Or two 6ft 5" centre backs are put on him? He is ineffective?

Are teams clocking onto our style of play? Do we need to be more physical playing
    Sam Allardyce football?

Is it? Or is our strategy to get the ball out to the wings as quickly as possible and that happens to include a front man holding it up?

Wolves have always played with two wingers and the diaganol aerial game tends to work well with this system, but just as often we see balls played from the centre into the space behind the full-backs.

Iwelumo is important, but he's not the be all and end all of the system.

think vokes is more than capable from what i've seen of him.

It's the TWO wingers that are the key, one as we've seen is less than half as effective

It was high and long ball against QPR but I thought our play was based on the speed of our wingers and attacking on the break with plenty of balls into the box. Vokes is there if Iwelumo is not.

  6. I actually think Vokes is getting very close to starting, obviously it can't happen cuz of Iwelumo being on hot form this season but I have been very impressed with him in the last 2 appearances

Have you seen any of our games this year? Not that there is anything wrong with the 'long ball' game per se.

The problem is that the media and everyone under the age of 35 seems to interpret 'long ball' as meaning long punt from keeper to centre forward who flicks on to other forward...actually that can be pretty thrilling when played effectively

BUT 'our long ball' today is at least as much about getting the ball wide to wingers as soon as possible and then crossing...a style of play that every true Wolves fan should recognise and relish as being that employed whenever we have had a decent side. Proud to be 'long ball' man.

Vokes has looked really good in the Blackpool & Blues games. He appears to have an excellent touch, good control, and a good awareness of the game. I think he'll grow into a very good player.

From games I've been to, we don't play long ball, though blues forced us into it, & obviously it didn't work!

  9. guys guys guys its a wind up

  10. I've missed about 4 games this season in total.

With the ball in defence we seem to bypass midfield at times and hoof it up towards Iwelumo.

QPR was very much like this and they were wise to it.

    As were Blues.....

Good Wolves teams have always played with 2 wingers, this one is no different.......

If you don't like 'long ball' or at least 'direct football' you have no business supporting the Wolves. Its in our DNA. Look what happened when we employed 'passing managers' McGhee and Hoddle.

We mix it up. Sometimes long, sometimes not.

I actually thoguht we looked better with Keogh today than we have with Iwelumo recently. His movement was excellent and he won plenty in the air, so we don't need to panic about CI being out.
