Last Wolves goalkeeper to score?

As Southend goalkeeper Simon Royce headed towards the Villa penalty area in the dying seconds of the game today, I wondered - when was the last time Wolves goalkeeper scored for the club?

One of my favourite sights in football, seeing a keeper venturing forward but I can't recall any goalkeeper scoring in all my years as a supporter - I can remember a few keepers going up but not making an impact.

Part time goalies Dean Richards and David Kelly don't count btw.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Haven't been able to find anything online. Cheers.

Off the top of my head Keepers who have scored goals

Peter Schmeichel - Man. United (header from a corner IIRC)
Jimmy Glass - Carlisle (relegation saving headed goal from IIRC a corner)
Paul Robinson - Tottenham (long punt upfield)
Pat Jennings - Tottenham (long punt upfield)
Adam Federici - Reading (t'other week actual shot)

I'm sure there's plenty more but I don't recall a Wolves Keeper scoring.

Hennessey scored for the Wales under 18s i think.

Mart Poom scored against his former club Derby while at Sunderland
Brad Friedel scored for Blackburn v Charlton in the last minute
    Schmeichel scored for Villa aswel
Paul Robinson also scored for Leeds v Swindon in the cup
Jose Luis Chilavert scored 60 odd goals for club and country as he was their free kick and penalty taker. He smashed in a free kick from inside his own half once.
Massimo Tiebi scored for his club in Italy after returning from his ill fated spell at man utd.

Kuscask(sp?) conceded one internationally from the opposition goal kick, I remember much merriment on here as he was still an Albion player.

    Not officially, at least

I do not believe any Wolves goalkeeper has ever scored (will double check later though!)

Apart from Wayne Hennessey scoring a 40 yard free kick for Wales U19s i dont think its happened for Wolves.

Didn't Mike Stowell score against Portsmouth in an FA Cup game in the 90s?

I remember he came up for corners in the last minute a few times, and I'm sure he chested and volleyed one in from the edge of the area. Might have been saved though.

I seem to have a vague memory of one of our keepers scoring in a penalty shoot out. Can't for the life of me remember who it was, or who it was against even. Might have been Oakes/Stowell, maybe Paul Jones even?

What kind of defending is it to swap your marker from a tall, good in the air striker to the goalkeeper?!

    Against Stoke finished 1-1.

Mike Stowell also came up for a corner in the last minute of our 2-1 FA Cup 3rd Round defeat against Portsmouth. Im pretty sure he got a shot in at goal but was blocked.

Yeah, at the North Bank end. Beasant did come up for a corner, in the last minute of a 2-1 home defeat to Brentford, 92-93 season at the South Bank end, I think he got a header in but it was cleared off the line.

Hopefully this stockpile of completely useless information I've got might win me some money one day!

Neither of them scored for us I far as I can remember. The record books don't attribute any official goals to them either.

Sorry mate, so used to Royce playing for Gillingham it just came hand-in-hand.

So no Wolves keeper has ever scored? Quite surprising, given the clubs history.

Going right back to our beginning. We had a player called Jack Baynton that played in defence during our games in the FA Cup before the league started. Then in the first ever league season he played in goal for the season.

    He never scored though

i`d be amazed if budgie never scored a goal at some point. Didnt he play for about 25 different teams?

Back in the late 60's we had a reserve goalie, who, due to injuries played centre forward for the Reserves in The Central League and scored. In those days Reserves games were played at the same time as the first team so sometimes resources were a bit stretched. Anyone remember who it was? I have a vague recollection it was Jim Weir or something similar.

Did Phil Parkes not do so back in the 1960's?

  31. I think you're thinking of the Sheff Wed penalty shoot out when Pressman scored for them.

Jonah was in goal for us that night (IIRC) but he didn't take a penalty in the shoot out.

Henessey scored in the Reading match this season at home.

He scored the 1st goal from Doyle's corner :(

    Touche.

Whenever I think of keepers scoring, Steve Ogrizovic's effort from his own penalty area springs to mind. Not sure what year it was but I'd guess early 90s.

Robinson's scored a couple. Sure he scored a late headed equaliser in a league cup tie whilst at Leeds *. Schmeicel scored with an overhead kick once, certain of it, maybe against Wimbledon, although I also know he has also had a goal disallowed and that may have been it. Rene Higuita (sp) has to have scored for Columbia, be amazed if he hasn't. And you also had the gift, was it last season? When Leicester allowed Forest's keeper to run through and score after the original game had been called off at half time with Forest 1-0 up.

Corrigan also did this for Man City, not sure who were the opponents; Spurs maybe. I remember the diagram in the next day's paper with a little line of arrows to show the ball's trajectory. It was just like being there ....

Jose luis chilavert for paraguay and jorge campos for mexico were pretty free scoring keepers iirc.

Campos actually played as a striker on occasion. Check this flying volley out:

    [ame="http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=t0Me-aoFjzM&feature=related"]YouTube - jORGE cAMPOS GOL VS C. AZUL[/ame]

And sometimes, he played as a goalkeeper, but forgot:

In terms of going up for last minute freekicks, there are a couple of interesting ones here. Number 3 because the keeper (Oscar Perez) is all of five foot ten, and Number 2 because Miguel Calero doesn´t bother to take his cap off!
